I wasn't bitching, I just feel that even if SS is as good as the EDGE score makes me believe and it's gameplay is superior to every otehr game, i just can't see it getting the nod over batman who is grim, HD and cool
Except that you're going off of a score from EDGE, who don't know shit about shit.
The Witcher = 5
The Witcher 2 = 6
GTA IV = 10
God of War II = 7 (after giving GoW an 8)
Sid Meier's Pirates! = 6 (PC version)
Dark Cloud 2 = 6
Warhammer 40K Dawn of War II = 7
Little Big Planet = 6
Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner = 4
Jet Grind Radio = 4
I could go on, but I'm pretty sure EDGE has at least what I consider the wrong idea for a review publication. Instead of viewing it from a "will people who like this genre/franchise/etc. like this game?" standpoint its entirely "I like it/I don't like it".
Add the fact that their "I like it/I don't like it" has a sliding scale that apparently gives bonus points to UK based developers and Nintendo titles, while taking them away from Sony titles (EDGE is nearly without fail more negative on every Sony game or Sony console exclusive than industry average).
They aren't a harsh reviewing publication, they're a shitty reviewing publication that tries to act like they hold games to a higher standard and use the full range of scoring when in reality they'll throw a perfect score on anything that strikes their fancy faster than anyone around. The only reason their reviews show any real range is that they love throwing a 5-7 on any really good game that doesn't personally click with them.
Why the rant? Because I'm sick of seeing public sentiment go "LOLZ, EDGE!" when a game they like gets a low score (like Dead Island getting a 3/10) but then acting like EDGE is somehow a stalwart of integrity when they give a 9 or 10 to a game they're excited for.
They're a bunch of twits with quite possibly the most obtuse perspective on game reviews you'll ever find. They should generally just be dismissed and ignored. That simple.
