Skyward Sword review thread [Newest Reviews - Cubed3 10/10, GC: A, AusGamers: 7/10]

There are millions of gamers who love and play Call of Duty, that does not make Call of Duty immune from criticism, does it?

Nope, of course not, and personal tastes also make it a reasonable target, too. But to call it a mis-step, which presumes it was a mistake (and considering the post you were responding to cited 'failure'), rather than saying 'I didn't really get along with it'... Well, that was what I was responding to. But it is a thread about Zelda scores so I'll stop the banter.

Seeing that train... I'm just gonna say it, I LOVED ST. Haters be damned that game was a breath of fresh air, it was pure entertainment from start to finish (and screw you I didn't mind the train).

There, had to get it out of my system. :P

Its all right, we all have our weird eccentrics

I really hope the elite subscribers such as myself get a cover without all the text on it, if not I'll just cut out the '10/10' and put that on my wall instead.

I can't believe it's less than a month until I get to play a new console Zelda.....

Playing a new Zelda for the first time > Kissing a girl for the first time

Totally agree. The dungeons were really quite good.

I really like Spirit Tracks too. The dungeons, the music and the characters were great. But too damn train. Would have been nice to have it for some specific routes, or minigames... But fill the entire world of tracks? Seems just wrong. At least for a Zelda game.

Spirit Tracks took away all the shit I hated in Phantom Hourglass and added something I hated even more: that fucking train.

Still, great dungeon design and music. Dumb dumb DUMB story though.

edit: for full disclosure

Majora's Mask > Twilight Princess > Oracle games > Ocarina of Time > Wind Waker > Link's Awakening > Four Sword Adventures > Minish Cap > A Link to the Past > Spirit Tracks > Zelda I > Zelda II > Phantom Hourglass

People tend to lump the really quite good Spirit Tracks with the profoundly underwhelming Phantom Hourglass all the damn time and it just makes me sad.

Dudes. It just hit me. It's been roughly FIVE YEARS since Twilight Princess. We have waited nearly 1826 days for this game to land. A new home console Zelda.

FUCKIN HYYYYYYYYYYYYYYPE

I don't know what would be better; Wind Waker HD, or TP upgraded to the engine from the Zelda HD demo.

I'd rather see WW, but it has such a clean look, that it wouldn't change much. TP on the otherhand looks like shit, and completely redone textures, added polygons, etc, would make it look far more striking.
I'd just hope they'd cut some of that boring beginning out. It takes way too long to really get going.

Alright I just ordered a Wii and preordered the Gold bundle of Zelda. This is a huge risk I'm taking as I was never thinking about ever buying a Wii but GAF persuaded me otherwise.

And that is why I like Nintendo's strategy of spacing out their major releases.

And you made the bet that you would buy one if Skyward Sword received a 10. So pay up, dude.

You know what I can't wait for?

The inevitable reviews that compare skyrim to zelda and vice versa. Gonna be amazing. I love when reviewers mix up context just because two games come out in the same week.
We already had a preview mention the overworld feels like "Bethesda-lite." in that case, Bethesda games feel MMO-lite and MMOs feel like real-life-lite.

Buying a $130 console with a giant library of great games is a huge risk?

Can we not post anything spoiler related here (I mean images and gifs)? I don't want to have to avoid this thread as well.

It was in a video from the Nintendo Conference a month ago but sure, I won't post it anymore since I feel the same way. :P

Other than the Galaxy games and Xenoblade I'm not interested in anything else. Maybe that'll change.

Blasphemy. A Link to the Past is top tier.

EDGE's quote:
""How apt that this ultimate tale of hero-making should see Nintendo’s hardware become the console it was always meant to be.""

.....not sure I understand it. Are they saying Skyward Sword redeems the wii?

Amazing how the wait for Twilight Princess was only 3 years in comparison and it seemed like a longer wait.

Pre-ordered the bundle. I might have a paper due a day or two after, but fuck it, this will just give me motivation to finish it early.

I think A Link to the Past has shown its age; fuck, it showed its age ten years ago when Majora's Mask came out. If I want to play a game that follows its same pattern and quality, I'll just play Ocarina. Four Swords Adventures is arguably the most FUN Zelda game, as well.

And the Edge quote is cool with me. Skyward Sword was probably what Nintendo intended the Wii to accomplish much earlier in its lifespan -- full motion controls being integral to the entire experience, and not ham-fisted and gimmicky. It reaches the pinnacle of the Wii's potential, and unfortunately much too late.

That's not saying the Wii is a failure; not at all. Just a bummer this type of game wasn't out for the system earlier than now.

Yeah, do some exploring. There's some real gems out there, and if you dig platformers, than Donkey Kong Country Returns is a must.

Well hey, thanks for pointing that out for the rest of us who are trying to avoid spoilers too!

We don't really know who she is. We only think that because of how she looks.

Once I heard the number of people at Nintendo working on this title I was already convinced on this being the game of the year. Will take my sweet ass time on this baby and get at least 50 hours out of it. Can't fucking wait!!!
