Does the standard edition come with motion + included or will i need to buy that business? I couldn't seem to find a straight answer anywhere.

The standard edition does not come with motion plus. For $70 you can get the collection with the gold wii motion plus remote. Both come with the soundtrack.

I´ll waiting for the pics... oh yeah

Alright I just ordered a Wii and preordered the Gold bundle of Zelda. This is a huge risk I'm taking as I was never thinking about ever buying a Wii but GAF persuaded me otherwise.

ok then! :D

SMG and Xenoblade (along with SS) will make you love that system, you won't regret.

I'm not really interested in any reviews but does any of the content or commentary released thus far mention if there's much significance to the new subsystems like the crafting and gathering and the like? Those really make my ears perk up but I'm worried they'll be pretty much fluff.

You bothered clicking the thread and replying....to say that?

Hahaha it's Alkaline, he's just messing around :p

How many more days? How many more days? The painful thing is it seems like I will be unable to get this on day one.... so sad :(

Other than the Galaxy games and Xenoblade I'm not interested in anything else. Maybe that'll change.

Sin and Punishment: Star Successor is the real reason to own a Wii.

kinda low on cash these days and I was going to buy modern warfare 3....but this will have to wait. This is a Zelda year. This is more special to me. The main Zelda's games come out every 4-5 years. I've been a fan since link's awakening. I can't wait. I'm glad this thread has been pretty spoiler free. I'm going on a media black-out after this post.

I would agree.

I have big libraries for all modern consoles, but my Wii library is full of particularly hardcore gems like S&P2, Muramasa, NMH2, Tatsunoko, etc.

Cruzader said:

He's referring to the Wii's line-up of games like Little King's Story, Muramasa, No More Heroes, S&P, etc., which would appeal to long-time gaming enthusiasts almost exclusively. Lower development costs for the Wii made niche titles like that arguably more common than on the HD twins.

LOL....no.
With the keyword being niche, I'm inclined to agree. Well, at least more well known niche titles, since the HD platforms niche titles are overshadowed by the constant stream of high budgets key franchises.

But but but the Wii has no bald space marines and anything with the term hardcore has to include bald space marines or be an fps. I know because that's what my buddies all play and they know their shit.

Cruzader said:
I used to be like you, then No More Heroes 2 came out and the Wii blew me away.

Sure, there's Vanquish, Bayonetta, and all the rest "hardcore games" on the 'HD' systems, but the Wii has a pretty strong niche set as well. It took some time, but I no longer regret my Wii purchase. NMH2 is probably in my top 10 favorite games of all time. Sin & Punishment is just about the last great rail-shooter. House of the Dead: Overkill is great too. That and Madworld on Wii show there's some mature support for the white waggle box. Not to bmention the pretty solid first party support with franchises we hadn't got much love from since arguably SNES time period. Its depressing that its taken so long for developers to finally get their balls out and actually try and do things creatively with motion controls.

This isn't even close to being true. Go look at a 360/PS3 released games list and I'm not talking about "space marines" (sigh, can't stand that term). It's not just a true statement and it's not close if we're going by numbers.

As someone who was so disappointed in the Wii that he sold it this is...true. What significant budget niche games do the other consoles have. PS3 has the usual Gust games and the Xbox 360 has...Deadly Promotion?

Its sad. The Wii really could have been a great console, but Nintendo dropped the ball. Now I can merely say "its better than the Gamecube".

From what I gather, everyone's definition of "hardcore niche" is a cool game that's not mainstream. In which case, the HD twins have plenty of games like that. Dark Souls, Catherine, Disgaea 3/4, Heavy Rain, Vanquish, Bayonetta, Darksiders, Shadows of the Damned, etc. Perhaps the Wii seems to have more niche titles simply because there are fewer blockbuster titles obscuring them.

Bayonetta, Darksiders, Vanquish, Heavy Rain? The hell?

I'll give you the rest though.

Yup, and there's a ton more: http://www.metacritic.com/browse/games/score/metascore/all/xbox360?view=condensed&sort=desc&page=5 And don't forget PSN/XBLA

All in all I'd say the Wii library is great as long as you're not looking for blockbuster-type games. Because it excels in the obscure/niche titles and for the most part handles them quite well. It is a shame we didn't see more emphasis on expanding the idea of technical motion control and even new design frameworks for it. The Wii is/was great but it hardware/software-wise (and developer centric) squandered lots of potential it could have had.

The Wii was the best homebrew enabled system we'll likely ever see, and it was also sort of a shame more dev's (niche dev's) didn't try to develop things for that crowd and even use it as a means to expand options/gameplay.

Ah yes, Nintendo bias.

Random sampling of games developed by Nintendo, wholly owned subsidiaries, and external partners, from the west and the east, across genres, across the full score range, and across platformers. I'm sure there are scores both above and below the Metacritic that I've excluded, I literally just sorted by scores upwards and picked random stuff from platforms that Metacritic covers:

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon - Explorers of Time - 3 (MC 60) BELOW
Wario - Master of Disguise - 4 (MC 60) BELOW
Trace Memory R - 4 (MC 66) BELOW
Yoshi's Topsy-Turvy - 4 (MC 60) BELOW
Battalion Wars 2 - 5 (MC 75, bonus this is also a UK developer OMG BIAS) BELOW
DK King of Swing - 5 (MC 70) BELOW
Mario Kart Double Dash - 5 (MC 87--yes, they scored 37 points below the Metacritic average here) BELOW
Mario Strikers Charged - 6 (MC 79) BELOW
Excite Truck - 6 (MC 72) BELOW
Wario Land: Shake It - 6 (MC 78) BELOW
Hotel Dusk - 6 (MC 78) BELOW
Wii Sports Resort - 6 (MC 80) BELOW
Golden Sun - 7 (MC 91) BELOW
Tetris DS - 7 (MC 84) BELOW
New Super Mario Bros Wii - 7 (MC 87) BELOW
Drill Dozer - 7 (MC 81) BELOW
Professor Layton 1 - 7 (MC 85) BELOW
Paper Mario - 7 (MC 93) BELOW
DK Jungle Beat - 8 (MC 80) Exactly on Metacritic
Animal Crossing City Folk - 7 (MC 73) BELOW, but just one score bracket.
Punch-Out! - 8 (MC 86) BELOW, but just one score bracket
Minish Cap - 8 (MC 89) BELOW, but just one score bracket.
Twilight Princess - 9 (MC 95) BELOW, but just one score bracket.
Brawl - 9 (MC 93) BELOW, but just one score bracket.
M&L3 - Bowser's Inside Story - 9 (MC 90) Exactly on Metacritic
Super Mario Galaxy 2 - 10 (MC 97) FOUND IT! BIAS! HIGHER SCORE THAN METACRITIC! EDGE ALERT! ALERT! NINTENDO BIAS DETECTED! JOURNALISTIC SCANDAL! MONEYHATS! VENGEANCE AT LAST!!!!!

Edited with a second pass to fill out a few franchises that weren't represented in my original list.

Why would EDGE waste their time choking on dick for Nintendo's fringe titles? They aren't hardcore Nintendo fanboys, just always there with a 9-10 for every major Nintendo release.

EDGE is below industry average for 85% of all games with a standard deviation of almost 10%, according to Metacritic. You think they're 10% below industry average for 85% of all major Nintendo IPs? That removes 7 of the titles from your list, FYI. They happen to be all the major Nintendo IPs on it.

They gave the GBA version a 4. They gave the DC version an 8. He searched some database for "Jet Grind Radio" not knowing that the DC version is called "Jet Set Radio" everywhere else in the world except North America.

The LittleBigPlanet score is also their score for the PSP version, not the PS3 version, which they gave a 10.

And I'm guessing his God of War "3" getting a 7 was that they gave a 7 to Chains of Olympus. They gave an 8 to God of War 3.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL.
Did you notice the "II" in my post? In what world does that mean "3"?

Also, thanks for the LBP score illumination, for everyone. You don't think its fucked up that LBP PS3 is a 10 but as soon as it hits PS3 they drop it to a 6? Or was it some halfwit reviewer didn't have his personal happy button tickled and so he threw a mediocre number on it? LBP on PS3 = revolutionary game. Very similar experience on a handheld where there is even fewer experiences anything like it and suddenly its a middle of the road title.

Jet Set Radio was just one I happened to notice when I was referencing a few EDGE scores, sure. So how in your crazy "defend the gaming bible!" zealotry does that make the scores for Witcher 1 & 2, the declining score for a vastly superior GoW game, the outright BAD score for ZoE, etc. make any sense?

Me making one research mistake is somehow > years of shitty reviewing by EDGE?

Welcome to the "man steals $100 gets 15 years, man embezzles $100 millon dollars, get 40 months" world of nonsense.

I don't see one on that list. And PSN/XBLA don't count because I said significant budget.

This is all irrelevant though. PC gaming steamrolls all three consoles alone.
Please define "hardcore niche titles" for me. And that list wasn't just that one page...that was just the copy/paste link

Games that are geared toward a very small specific group of people.

Some notable examples:

NIS games
Gust games
Nearly anything Suda 51 makes
Ark System Work and SNK fighting games
etc.

So what puts No More Heroes, Sin and Punishment, etc. in that category and not these games? Sales? Seriously though, I don't get it.

So budget is a factor too? That seems like an arbitrary rule.

AFAIK, there are no NIS or Gust games on Wii, and there's only lazy ports of Arc and SNK games on Wii ...

So basically, Japanese?

Are you serious?

mind boggles

Mainly I'd say target market. No one expected S&P2 or NMH to be a blockbuster, whereas games like Bayonetta and Darksiders were extremely high budget, highly marketed games aiming to be multi-million sellers. That's in direct contradiction with the whole idea of "niche" games.

I would say though that Heavy Rain hit it big even though it was in a niche genre

Darksiders is an eight digit budgeted action-adventure game. There is no way in hell that is niche.

Bayonetta actively tried to be SEGA's "Devil May Cry" a game that is not niche at all.

Heavy Rain isn't a videogame so it doesn't count.

No More Heroes is on there for the same reason why I left Shadow of the Damned alone. Sin & Punishment is on there for the same reason Disgaea 3/4 are.

Yeah, I don't get it. Why does the budget matter? That's an arbitrary restriction.

I just checked their Wikis and you're right, lol.
