Skyward Sword review thread [Newest Reviews - Cubed3 10/10, GC: A, AusGamers: 7/10]

I wonder if some of the music from the Symphony actually is in the game.

EDIT: AND MY PRE-ORDER OF SKYWARD SWORD IS ALREADY FULLY PAID! COME AT ME, BROS!

OK, so in real math, 5/5 is always 10/10. But when it comes to review scores, I always figured a 5/5 could be awarded where otherwise it'd be a 9 OR 10/10.
A lot of 5 point scales seem to have half a point anyways, so a 9/10 = 4.5/5.
Not sure why they don't just use a 10 point scale in that case.

MINE TOO AHSDFUHAWFRQWP

I HOPE THERE'S A MIDNIGHT LAUNCH OR I WILL BE HUNTING YOU ALL DOWN FOR BLOOD.

I'm super pumped for the mini orchestral thing included too.

....I'm becoming intrigued. I'll leave my final decision of whether I'll be playing this anytime soon up to Neogaf and your reactions/opinions when you get your hands on the game.

What are your thoughts on Zelda in general?
I'm assuming you're not a fan.

I wish it would have had THE part from the TP overworld, when it just explodes into gooey epic beautifulness

The TP soundtrack is unfairly shit upon by many. It's unfortunate since the overworld theme is the best of any of the zeldas.

Actually a huge fan---most of the Zelda games. I don't know why, but this is the first Zelda in a while that I just haven't been interested in at all. I don't think it has to do with Skyward Sword so much as I'm just burnt out with the franchise in general. I dunno. I haven't watched any videos or trailers for a while---maybe there is one out there, or one soon to be released that can re-invigorate my interest.

I say watch the Lyre Trailer.

Nintendo told everyone at the time that the soundtrack for Twilight Princess was going to be fully orchestrated and made a huge deal about it, so can you blame them for complaining? After that Nintendo learned to be a bit more professional and keep quiet about things until they know 100% they can deliver. Twilight Princess's soundtrack is still really really good though; and some pieces are just downright powerful like Minda in Distress, The Sacred Grove, The Sages theme, and the final battle with Ganon (just to name a few; there's a lot more!).

Yeah I guess nintendo shouldn't have done that but I don't think it detracts from the inherent awesomeness of the soundtrack. A lot of people just outright dismiss it.

Is the bonus CD going to include everything from the 25th anniversary symphony? I sure hope so, what little i've heard is excellent.

its not unfair... actually "unfair" is exactly what the TP soundtrack is. The same game that had Midas's Distress had this thing that sounds worse than any Ocarina music.

Right, it's not the best soundtrack by a mile, but it's still good and has lots of great songs, though yeah, that one is trash.

They never said it would be orchestrated. Don't know where you are getting that from.

Mine has been paid for like a month. I'll be playing Arkham City before this games out. Those riddle trophies will help eat out this wait for this game.

This is kind of off topic I know, but it seems like the best place to ask at the moment.

My Wii apparently has the fried GPU, if I send it to Nintendo for repair do you guys think I could have it back in time for Skyward Sword's release date?

I know I should have sent it in a while back, but I haven't had it hooked up in a while and the release date kind of snuck up on me.

The turn around time on Nintendo repairs is pretty quick. I think you have the option where they send you a new Wii along with the coffin for the broken one and you just keep the new one. You have to give them your credit card information just in case you don't send the broken one back to them though.

If you send it in now you should make it just in time.

I'm so hyped for this game I made a wallpaper to share. Enjoy!

It's kind of strange that this drawing of Link is so popular with people. It completely betrays the Link that we're given in the games, not half so hardened as the miserable Link seen here.

Be real now.

SS Link is pretty and innocent looking. The Link in that drawing has much, much harsher features. He looks like SS Link if he had been jailed in Ganon's dungeon for 5 years and brutally raped on a weekly basis.

That may be a slight over-exaggeration.

No they didn't. The main trailer music that they used to advertise the game had orchestrated music and people made their own assumptions. When asked if they would their response was "we'll see".

He looks like he's frowning. Which he probably will do, probably a lot later in the game. Link in Skyloft is pretty much just smiling 24/7.

Yeah, they always dodged the question saying stuff like "we're looking into it" or "there might be some orchestration" which wasn't technically a lie since the E3 2005 theme which was orchestrated was used in the idle trailer.

But that's beside the point; orchestration does not equal composition and overall the quality of the compositions was pretty good, and really comparable to a lot of the other 3D Zeldas. I've had my issues with the 3D Zeldas and their soundtracks (mainly the dungeons going more for ambience then true musical definition) and hope that Skyward Sword does make some moves to correct that. So far, everything looks promising.
