"Nintendo has been so busy elaborating on Ocarina's heroic ideal that it's forgotten to embrace it for itself. So what better way to honour 25 years of bravery than courageously striving for something new? And what opportune hardware to cut those ties? After all, hasn't the Wii hardware spent the past five years searching for the hero inside itself? Firstparty experiments have tested Wii's boundaries, deducing what does and doesn't work. Their findings resonate throughout Skyward Sword. In Wii Sports-powered bomb bowling. In skydiving and swordplay learnt on a Wuhu holiday. In the surreal beauty and orchestrated bombast beamed down from Super Mario Galaxy. In the metallic Metroid chu-chunk of a door lock. Even the opinion-dividing Wii Music is vindicated in subtle moments of auto-tuning cleverness. How apt that this ultimate tale of hero-making should see Nintendo's hardware become the console it was always meant to be."

Galaxy didn't use motion plus.Hiltz said:Skyward Sword also seems to use the same motion controlled gameplay mechanic of Mario Galaxy's rolling ball levels. Anyway, are there any issues or nitpicks Edge has mentioned in its review about the game? I mean, no game is truly perfect which includes SMG 2.

You have the issue? Can you list some highlights? Comparisons or improvements on older games?Spiffy_1st said:Only that the upgrade system is really simple, it specifically says that's the single dull thing about the game.

I've ordered the game, anyway.
At this point I want to go in to it with as much positivity as possible, not obsess over nitpicks someone else had so I can go "OH MAN THIS IS THE THING EDGE WAS TALKING ABOUT!"
What does "practical info" here entail? What do I, the consumer buying the product regardless, have to gain from reading a 10/10 review that hypothetically complains about the lack of voice acting as a sticking point for that particular reviewer?

Not that I'm saying it shouldn't change, but repeating bosses have always been a Mario staple.Hiltz said:Thank you. That is something I would have expected out of this game given how Nintendo seems to have made a lot of subtle but effective changes to the game design's classic formula.
The reason I am a bit skeptical is because even games that receive 10 scores are generally not truly flawless. SMG 1 was an incredible game but the hub world was cumbersome and probably the worst out of any 2D or 3D Super Mario game. In addition, it was a bit lazy how there were recycled Bowser boss battles. A lot of games get flak for resorting to recycled boss battles and SMG 1 shouldn't be an exception. In fact, even SMG 2 is guilty of this.
WTF, I just fought Bowser in the last castle.Crunched said:Not that I'm saying it shouldn't change, but repeating bosses have always been a Mario staple.

Spiffy_1st said:The motion controls are pretty much perfect, they didn't have a single problem when playing. The overworld is compared to Majora's Mask Clock Town and Wind Wakers Ocean mixed together. There's a sidequest that rivals OoT's Skulltula's (yay!). There's Metroidvania style backtracking where you revisit old dungeons and enemies inside change to keep it from getting too easy. Item's are used throughout the whole game, and that's all I can find from skimming over it again.

jackdoe said:Does the Edge review mention anything about pacing? If they don't, I suppose we can take the lack of mention as a good thing (that it doesn't have the pacing problems that plagued Twilight Princess). So excited. Pre-order ready.
EDGE said:Having broken moulds, Skyward Sword refuses to set others. No two hours are the same.all in the course of one afternoon.Pirate ship chases become mine-cart rollercoasters become stronghold raids
It's impossible. The sheer idea of such a mixture is enough to make galaxies collapse upon themselves.BY2K said:Why so pessimist?

Your original post seemed condescending and I read it as "Good job asking for real information instead of just pointless hype-driving drivel!"randomkid said:Haha where's all this coming from, Mr. Reasonable? "The practical info highlighted above" I dunno, is that not clear? I meant the exact things I quoted in MiamiWesker's post. Not sure how you got voice acting and nitpicks out of that.
And of course it's your prerogative to have fun commiserating over positive reviews for a game you've already ordered. I even said that!
Spiffy_1st said:The overworld is compared to Majora's Mask Clock Town and Wind Wakers Ocean mixed together.
Excellent. No more one and a half hours of Wolf Link bullshit. Hype to extreme levels now.Spiffy_1st said:The spoilers are more location/event spoilers than story spoilers.

Specifically, the review suggests thatDr.Hadji said:I literally placed my forehand on my head and did my best Southern "Mercy". I mean.......thats........ what does this even mean?!
*Edit* Clock Town means three things.
1. Time
2. People
3. People moving throughout time
Now there is no way it can be real-time like in MM. But if you had enough characters react to enough events it would give a similar feel.
And Wind Waker's Ocean means one thing.
1. ADVENTURE!
So.......*faints*
