Closing paragraph:

"Nintendo has been so busy elaborating on Ocarina's heroic ideal that it's forgotten to embrace it for itself. So what better way to honour 25 years of bravery than courageously striving for something new? And what opportune hardware to cut those ties? After all, hasn't the Wii hardware spent the past five years searching for the hero inside itself? Firstparty experiments have tested Wii's boundaries, deducing what does and doesn't work. Their findings resonate throughout Skyward Sword. In Wii Sports-powered bomb bowling. In skydiving and swordplay learnt on a Wuhu holiday. In the surreal beauty and orchestrated bombast beamed down from Super Mario Galaxy. In the metallic Metroid chu-chunk of a door lock. Even the opinion-dividing Wii Music is vindicated in subtle moments of auto-tuning cleverness. How apt that this ultimate tale of hero-making should see Nintendo's hardware become the console it was always meant to be."

Fuck, I'm smiling

Oh so basically Nintendo made a load of games and sold them for 50 bucks each time and made you buy additional hardware and shit, and now they're releasing them all as one big game for $60 again? Nintendo, when will you stop cheating us gamers out of our money and treat us like decent people.

Skyward Sword also seems to use the same motion controlled gameplay mechanic of Mario Galaxy's rolling ball levels. Anyway, are there any issues or nitpicks Edge has mentioned in its review about the game? I mean, no game is truly perfect which includes SMG 2.

Forget the general quotes from edge we need specifics. What do they say about the difficulty, about the dungeon design, about upgrading and whether it really impacts the game and how the new game structure works out.

Heh it kinda makes me laugh that everyone would rather orgasm over that last paragraph than learn more about the practical info you highlighted. Ah well, people use reviews for different reasons.

Galaxy didn't use motion plus.

Tempered expectations? On my neogafs? Well I never.

Request time!

I need 1080p wallpaper of Zelda (not Link)! please? ;_;

Only that the upgrade system is really simple, it specifically says that's the single dull thing about the game.

I am just glad that it has an upgrade system. Nintendo likes to take baby steps.

Nintendo has been waiting for this release. They've been testing all of their mechanics by using games like Wii Sports and Music so they can build up to Skyward Sword. All other Wii games are simply pawns, tests so they can amalgamate to one ultimate game.

I mean

I've ordered the game, anyway.

At this point I want to go in to it with as much positivity as possible, not obsess over nitpicks someone else had so I can go "OH MAN THIS IS THE THING EDGE WAS TALKING ABOUT!"

What does "practical info" here entail? What do I, the consumer buying the product regardless, have to gain from reading a 10/10 review that hypothetically complains about the lack of voice acting as a sticking point for that particular reviewer?

You have the issue? Can you list some highlights? Comparisons or improvements on older games?

It looks so far that Zelda:SS is controlling much better. In Mario Galaxy(more MG1 than MG2), the feel was a bit touchy and it was easy to become frustrated trying to finish the level

Haha where's all this coming from, Mr. Reasonable? "The practical info highlighted above" I dunno, is that not clear? I meant the exact things I quoted in MiamiWesker's post. Not sure how you got voice acting and nitpicks out of that.

And of course it's your prerogative to have fun commiserating over positive reviews for a game you've already ordered. I even said that!

Thank you. That is something I would have expected out of this game given how Nintendo seems to have made a lot of subtle but effective changes to the game design's classic formula.

The reason I am a bit skeptical is because even games that receive 10 scores are generally not truly flawless. SMG 1 was an incredible game but the hub world was cumbersome and probably the worst out of any 2D or 3D Super Mario game. In addition, it was a bit lazy how there were recycled Bowser boss battles. A lot of games get flak for resorting to recycled boss battles and SMG 1 shouldn't be an exception. In fact, even SMG 2 is guilty of this.

Not that I'm saying it shouldn't change, but repeating bosses have always been a Mario staple.

WTF, I just fought Bowser in the last castle.

Whoop-de-do, he spits fire this time!

How creative, there are blocks in the way now!

FFFUUUUU! HAMMERS!

It's a surprisingly short review for a 10/10 game, so there's no that much to go on.

The motion controls are pretty much perfect, they didn't have a single problem when playing. The overworld is compared to Majora's Mask Clock Town and Wind Wakers Ocean mixed together. There's a sidequest that rivals OoT's Skulltula's (yay!). There's Metroidvania style backtracking where you revisit old dungeons and enemies inside change to keep it from getting too easy. Item's are used throughout the whole game. All the puzzles are 'new', no pushing a box onto a swtich or lighting lights to open a door and that's all I can find from skimming over it again.

A lot of stuff we already knew/assumed really..

Okay, now MY sword is skyward.

Good GOD, this sounds good!

Does the Edge review mention anything about pacing? If they don't, I suppose we can take the lack of mention as a good thing (that it doesn't have the pacing problems that plagued Twilight Princess). So excited. Pre-order ready.

God damn it! I had hoped we were done with this collectathon bullshit. Ah well, the rest of the game sounds perfect so I'll put up with it.

Having broken moulds, Skyward Sword refuses to set others. No two hours are the same.
Pirate ship chases become mine-cart rollercoasters become stronghold raids
all in the course of one afternoon.

The spoilers are more location/event spoilers than story spoilers.

Why so pessimist?

Majora's Mask is the greatest game of all time. If that shit is true, my sword would shoot skyward so fast I'd put someone's eye out.

Essentially, I've been doing a good job controlling my hype for this game so far =)

Your original post seemed condescending and I read it as "Good job asking for real information instead of just pointless hype-driving drivel!"

If I misread it, I apologize.

I literally placed my forehand on my head and did my best Southern "Mercy". I mean.......thats........ what does this even mean?!

*Edit* Clock Town means three things.
1. Time
2. People
3. People moving throughout time

Now there is no way it can be real-time like in MM. But if you had enough characters react to enough events it would give a similar feel.

And Wind Waker's Ocean means one thing.
1. ADVENTURE!

So.......*faints*

I really hope they point this out in the advertising for Skyward Sword to get those buyers to pick up the game. "Enjoyed Wii Sports/Resort, Wii Music, Wii Play? Then you'll love Skyward Sword as it incorporates it all into one package with <insert Zelda descriptions and hype>". It's seems like an easy push to make to get those mainly interested in the Wii series to try out the game. It won't see as intimidating that way.

The Ulitmate Sacrifice!

After being let down by Twilight Princess even when i played it with no expectations, i didn't want to get excited for this game, but reading all this makes SS sound like the best thing ever.

Specifically, the review suggests that
Skyloft acts more as a hub to the three regions below. "A community of oddballs scattered across a sky archipelago."

I don't even know what worth spoiler-tagging and what isn't any more.
