Skyward Sword review thread [Newest Reviews - Cubed3 10/10, GC: A, AusGamers: 7/10]

Yeah, even if the game isn't "10/10 OMFG God tier" at least we can be 100% assured now that Nintendo didn't somehow botch it in some unseen way.

I guess I'm gaining a little more interest in this. Still need to see more though.

See more? For the last month they've been showing off new footage every week. Too much more and they might spoil the whole game.

Damn...now I will have to buy a motion plus controller...
If necessary you can probably still just go buy the M+ attachment.

Or you could get the Skyward Sword bundle with the golden controller.

ONM and Edge are both made by Future Publishing, and this trailer is for the Golden Joystick Awards in London tonight - which is a GamesMaster magazine event, a mag and event also made / organised by Future.

So basically, yeah, they quoted their own review in the trailer.
Okay, thanx for clearing that up. Thought it was suspicious

I still think there's going to be that one negative aspect that people will always point to. Think the triforce quest in WW and the intro/wolf segments of TP.

Gotta try and hide it you know. Rating every Nintendo game as shit would make it obvious. He can get away with saying that WSR is good because the Giant Bomb audience wouldn't be interested in the game anyway.
Wow, it was 5 years ago, get the fuck over his TP review. He does not have any ridiculous agenda.

How many 10/10s has Edge given out? Which titles?
According to Wiikipedia, 14:

Super Mario 64 (Nintendo 64) - E35 (1996)
Gran Turismo (Sony PlayStation) - E55 (1997)
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Nintendo 64) - E66 (1998)
Halo: Combat Evolved (Xbox) - E105 (2001)
Half-Life 2 (Windows PC) - E143 (2004)
Halo 3 (Xbox 360) - E181 (2007)
The Orange Box (Windows PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360) - E182 (2007)
Super Mario Galaxy (Wii) - E183 (2007)
Grand Theft Auto IV (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360) - E189 (2008)
LittleBigPlanet (PlayStation 3) - E195 (2008)
Bayonetta (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360) - E209 (2009)
Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii) - E215 (2010)
Rock Band 3 (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360) - E222 (2010)
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (Wii) - E234 (2011)

Gta IV and Halo 3 are the ones that I disagree, and even I can see why they'd give them a 10

Whenever I think of Zelda fandom I invariably think of Bruce McCulloch's Eraserhead song, so in honor of a 10/10 from EDGE, I'll offer up a Skyward Sword version. Listen to this and just imagine the new lyrics.

Sounds more like Lou Reed and Metallica's recent train wreck...

Not the game, I mean the song.

Amazing really. All the more better from Edge. GOTY folks. Might be game of the generation.
Two contenders are Nintendo titles. Says it all, really.

Also appears Myamoto was right about him wanting this to be the best Zelda ever.

No Halo deserves 10/10 nor Rock band 3, nor LBP, nor Bayonetta nor GTA IV ofc... Too much cons in these games.

Cannot wait.

Luckily, in the meantime we have the entertainment of Stump running Drek out of the thread on a rail, which is ALMOST as good.

I really hope you're joking.

I could go on, but I'm pretty sure EDGE has at least what I consider the wrong idea for a review publication. Instead of viewing it from a "will people who like this genre/franchise/etc. like this game?" standpoint its entirely "I like it/I don't like it".
Why exactly should we want more of the former and less of the latter? We shouldn't need a bunch of gaming "journalists" telling us what we do and do not want.

This is, I think, what is entirely at the root of the problem of video game reviews: they're already completely and utterly pandering to the complacent tastes of mainstream gamers. The excessive focus on the 8-10 scale doesn't tell me so much that there has been enormous score inflation (obviously, there has been), but that the vast majority of reviewers are content with the status of video games as they are now. A game can have an atrocious story, bland art design, and repetitive design, but as long as it has the spectacular setpieces and addictively fun gameplay, it's a 10.

At least in the film industry critics have the audacity to sometimes shit all over the AAA, mainstream fare, hence why someone like AO Scott could brashly criticize The Dark Knight or Stephanie Zacharek could skewer Avatar. Outside some fringe figures like Yahtzee, you never see this in games, precisely because the reviewers are cretins groping for another helping of schlock.

I wasn't going to but...

Fuck it. I'm in!

Mad respect to Edge for their 10 scores. Bayonetta and Rock Band 3 are near to my heart, the ultimate expression of their respective genres that got way overlooked.

I'd rather play Bayonetta over any of the other games in this 10/10 list. :P

I hate review threads. I'll never understand how some people can discredit another persons OPINION simply by looking at the score, especially when the games are generally regarded as being the best of the best. Let's hear some of your 10/10 games. I'll be there are more than a few people that will think they "don't deserve" a 10/10.

Nintendo has been hitting it out of the park with the Wii iterations of their big franchises.

Yeah, Other M is essentially their only big failure. This will teach them that developers obsessed with tits do not suit Nintendo's franchises. :lol

Goddamn. The first Zelda I'm not hyped for gets a 10.

Wii's been collecting massive amounts of dust since Mario Galaxy 2 and I don't really have much time for gaming anymore.

But EDGE 10 is kind of a big deal!
