Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time |OT| Sly & the Family’s Tome are Back!

So after watching some more gameplay and playing the demo again, I think I'm gonna go and get this instead of Fire Emblem, even though I haven't finished the Sly trilogy (which I'll do after I beat this one). We need more 3D platformers and I think this deserves my support more than Fire Emblem does. I'll probably pick it up this week if I haven't changed my mind by then (which is very likely >_>)

I really hope this game doesn't completely bomb. :(

I have a gift card to Best Buy I was going to use to get the Vita version, but it doesn't seem to be listed on the web site. Guess I might stop in the store sometime soon.

Sony must be pretty damn terrified that this game won't sell enough if they dropped the price to $40 AND basically left out a manual.

You don't need a manual, the entire first level shows you the controls.

And this is standard Sony practice nowadays, it's got nothing to do with the price or the game. All Stars and R&C:FFA were also manual-less I believe.

Do it! Fire Emblem is practically sold out at the moment, so there's no question which game needs more support.

Pretty excited to play this. I never got around to playing any of the Sly games in the past, but I love platformer/adventure games, so I think it'll be a perfect fit for my tastes. Had to clean out the fridge today on my Vita though...32 GB is full and I'm planning on getting this digitally. After backing up Resistance and Frobisher Says, I have just a little over 4GB available. Sony really needs to work on a 64 GB card.

Ew, there's Murray and Bentley gameplay in this game? I thought it was a return to the first Sly Cooper game? And Murray is apparently bad? Ugh, I hope there aren't helicopter and RC car mini-games scattered around the hubs. I'll pick this up next Saturday after work and give it a go. I've already mastered Sucker Punch's trilogy (twice) so I my as well play this one. Haven't seen much video of the game so I'm going in with mostly a clear slate. Hope it's got some good level design at least for Sly. Also wanting to see Master Thief Sprints return. They'd better be tough if they're there! =/

I don't think they are. But yes there are RC car missions as well as hacking mini games.

Has it been said how much you'll be playing as people other than Sly and the ancestors? I'm fine with Bentley but Murray was sluggish and I have no idea about Carmelita.

If you don't go in with this mindset, I believe most people will have a great time with this entry.

Yeah, I mean, I'm not too attached to this franchise anymore. I LOVE the first game and with each following entry I started to dislike the direction they were taking. The GTA-like hubs were totally not my thing. Escort missions and mini-games abound, not a good thing. As long as Sly's got some good platforming levels then I'm sure I'll dig this for the most part. Not enough console platformers out there anymore. Can't be too choosy, right?

sony's no longer making physical manuals. e-manuals are mandatory and physical manuals are optional. this is ps3-wide (1st and 3rd party). i assume it's in preparation for ps4.

Each hub has a different ancestor and it's fairly evenly split between Sly, Ancestor and sidekicks. Carmilla plays alright, but it's mostly a not so great third-person shooter as her, but it's not offensive in the same way that Murray is and not as dull as Bentleys gameplay.

Game is out tomorrow and still no reviews?

Here's my review:

I think it's a game that is not for me. I personally feel that the game is bad, and so far away from delivering on the potential that is actually there. Fans and people with strong nostalgia for sub-par PS2 collect-a-thon minigame based early-generation gameplay will probably have fun with it. It plays and feels like a below medium PS2 game to me.

I could see a eight year old really loving it like I loved the original Jak & Daxter in my teens, as they share some similarities in their structure and it will probably connect with some people. It's not a game for me, as I found it tedious and the missions don't really utilize the open-world hubs in a good way.

I was pretty surprised to get an email today from gamefly telling me that this game just shipped to me. I've never gotten a just released game from them before.

Probably not a good omen if they didn't send out review copies.

A little less than 4gb.

wtf?

Much bigger than expected. I'm not clearing room for this anytime soon. The only reason I'm getting this game is because I promised it (PS3 version) to my nephew. The impressions of the final game sound less than appealing. Also the Vita demo felt almost like moving in quicksand after playing the PS3 version.

So how does cross buy work? Does it come with a code or do I need to put the disc in my PS3 and activate it or something?
I hope Grace Chen is on the ball tomorrow :\

If it's anything like Q-Force you will have a option in the XMB to activate the Vita copy and tie it to your account.

You'll activate it via the disc. If you buy on PSN then you just get both copies to download once you've purchased. Dunno if this will be on PSN though, will it? I'd rather buy it digital.

My copy just shipped from Video Games Plus. Importing from Canada (it seems) to the UK, so I have no idea when it'll actually get here, but I'm excited! Anyone who's imported from them before, how are they for delivery time?

apparently this game + sanzaru are sent to die. better buy this guys.

Yeah, no. I doubt Sanzaru will go the way of Superbot based mostly on the fact that Sanzaru is significantly smaller than Superbot and the budget for this game wasn't as large. The only thing they both have in common is that Sony didn't market either of the two very well. PSASBR got a Robot chicken commercial that only aired on like 2 channels and Sly got the little animated short, which didn't air anywhere except youtube.

Collect-a-thon? That's a red flag for me. Previous Sly games weren't collect-a-thons.

Don't tell me there's some low grade, Rareware-level crap to collect in here...

I think when he refers to "collect-a-thon" he refers to the treasures, masks, and things like that. If you never considered Sly 2 or 3 as "collect-a-thons" I think you'll find this one just as enjoyable. Again, keep in mind that that review was from someone who wasn't a fan of the original 3 games.

Alright. Clue bottles were very much an optional thing. Didn't see those or anything in Sly 2/3 as collect-a-thon-ing. Not what I can remember anyway.

Mini-crisis adverted.

I loved clue bottles in Sly 1 and 2. They were ton of fun to find and collect.

Then Sly 3 became a barren wasteland of giant open worlds with literally fucking nothing in them.

I hope Sly 4 is better, but I don't have my hopes up very high considering it's not from a reputable developer and Sony doesn't care about the game at all apparently.

I think it will be a combination of the best of both 2 & 3. Huge hub worlds with a lot to do and find.

hehe, this thread is the most advertisement Sly 4 is going to get apparently, so we got to make it look good.
