EDIT: Top of page recommendation: Pop'n Twin Bee. A fun vertical scrolling shooter from Konami. (Not released in the US, import from Japan or if you are in the UK you could find a pal version.)

A great break from bleak serious-business-apocalypse shmups, good graphics and fun mechanics, including juggling bells for power ups and "punching" enemies. And had a nice 2 player coop mode as well as an option to turn on "couples mode" where player 1's difficulty is increased and player 2 is on easy st.

Play in 2nd level.

Welp, went on a little eBay spending spree. Picked up Secret of Mana for 40,Yoshi's Island for 25 and Super Famicom Mega Man X,X2 and X3 for 50 shipped. Now I just need to find a damn mint SNES to play them on,lol.

Excellent start to SNES gaming! All are very good games... Yoshi is one of my favorite platformers of all time, probably one if my favorite games overall. It's amazing how well it holds up today.

I was in Chicago for about a week. Wandered into a Disc Replay right when some kid was trading in Kirby's Dreamland 3 for peanuts. Offered him whatever I had in my wallet for it (ended up being $15) and he took it.

I love it when crazy coincidences happen.

I've been down on garage sales this year since most of the ones I stopped at had no games for sale. The dude that found EVO lucked out, that's awesome and inspiring.

Seriously, i only find clothes and books that arent really interesting at garage sales lol.

I usually find some good stuff even if I strike out on video game stuff. Last summer I got a cool little mini-fridge that had nothing wrong with it for $20.

Snes games aren't super common or anything but I always find a few. Most of it is PS2/Xbox/GCN usually though.

Oh man, that's amazing.

Did you buy it off of someone back in the day or get it at Blockbuster?
In some videogame shop's bargain bin (used games) when they were getting rid of their SNES/Genesis games in 2002/2003

Got metal warriors too there ... (Among other gems)

Nice pickup then. Hagane's value really blew up in recent years, and Metal Warrior's value goes without saying.

I made a rule to
a) Only buy games I want to play/all time favorites
b) Only buy from non buy it now auctions (ie.going rate) unless there is an insanely low buy it now.
c) Only buy carts with mint labels

I live across the street from a flea market so I may check it now and then but I won't be doing much hunting in the wild,I went through that shit with my toy hunting phase. I found it to be such a waste of time/money driving around towns hoping to find a very specific item. Sure I may luck out and find Final Fantasy 3 for 5.00, but how much gas did it cost and hours wasted to find it? I'd rather pay the going rate online and have more free time to PLAY the games I'm buying

How is the Disc Replay in Chicago? I think there are a couple up there. Each store seems to have their own pricing, some are awesome (well below ebay) and some are just okay (low end ebay prices). Been curious how the Chicago ones are.

I paid good money for this Dynex!

I've been to the Naperville one and it's nothing special. Some sports games. I think they were overpriced, because they were charging money for them.

I read about this and went out and ordered it immediately, haha. It should be coming in the mail today with the last of my SFC carts from Japan: this, Super Genjin 1 & 2, and Kirby's Dreamland 3. Up to 44 SFC carts, and a pretty managable want list left. Hooray.

I personally find the hunt to be the best part of SNES game collecting, especially from Swap Meets.

I just love digging though dusty boxes, haggling with the seller and buying dirty games to take home and clean.

Is eBay the only good place to buy Super Famicom games? I think I'm gonna that route for the platformers.

I feel like eBay has a pretty sizable markup. It's not just sellers being "evil" either, It's partially because of eBay's fees too, and the seller has to compensate and adjust the price accordingly.

If you stick to auctions and aren't tempted by the higher-priced buy-it-nows, you can get some deals though.

Still too early to see a trend for sure, but I love how Earthbound is already on the decline.

pricecharting has recent auctions down near $160 range, which is a decent fall from over $200 it was going before the VC announcement. There's 71 listed on ebay right now, so I hope the panic sellers flood the market and this drops like a rock. I would even buy one for $100.

I wonder how low it will actually go with it only being on the WiiU VC. Getting released on the Wii or 3DS VC would have reached more people.

www.japangamestock.com treated me well. Their prices are definitely better than eBay's in most cases and they offer B3G1F on all loose SFC carts. Their selection isn't quite as vast as eBay's but they have some good stuff. I just ordered 4 Famicom carts from them last night. I'll be going back for another 8 or so in the near future.

Thanks for the heads up, i've been getting into cartoony shoot em ups as of late. Kinda reminds me of Star Parodier from that shot.

Would be nice if it dropped to reasonable prices. I'm fine with actual rare games costing alot, but something like Earthbound should be 50-60 tops. Especially cartridge only.

I wonder if we'll see a black-label FF7 style crash. I doubt it'll go that low because WiiU is hardly a ubiquitous console, but here's hoping!

I finally got it!

I spent months with this on the top of my must haves list. I was worried if it was legit because Harvest Moon labels always look funky with the wood grain. I opened it up and everything is correct. I am so excited.

It has a perfect spot on my dream team shelf:

The one I visited was in a western suburb of Chicago, in Hoffman Estates.

The carts were hundreds of garbage sports games for $2.99. They did have some excellent deals for the disc-based systems, though.

Just Final Fantasy III. There was some sort of water spot that I just rubbed right off.

I hit up the one in Countryside this weekend. Grabbed some stuff but it was pricey.

Zelda TP GC complete and the holographic Majoras Mask were 40 each. SNES Uncharted Waters New Horizons for 29.

I also got SNES Ranma 1/2 CIB for 29 cause a fool and his money something something.

They had a handful of random Japanese Mega Drive games and terrrrrrible FC/SFC games too. (Like horse racing and pachi-level crap.)

The Schaumburg one is also lame. Aside from the Disc Replays, there are other independent game stores in Chicago though if you're going there.

Just picked up Mario RPG for 42 shipped, mint label.

What are some good price saving mainstay Super Famicom games worth picking up over the expensive USA ones? I know of the Mega Mans and Super Metroid but not much else. There is a shop near my house with Super Metroid for 40 that I may bite on.

I have a bunch of family in Chicago so at some point I want to just go up there for the weekend with $500 in my pocket and come back with none of it. Also curious to check out the Indianapolis ones since there are like five Disc Replays listed on their site.

My brother went to the Schaumburg one a couple months ago when he was visiting a friend, and yeah, said they didn't have shit.

I went to the Springfield one last weekend for the second time. I won't be bothering with going back for a third. My collection blows that place out of the water. There is some other game store there, but they were closed Friday and Saturday so I don't have a clue what their prices are. They have a ton of stuff on ebay, which makes me assume their in store prices are probably just ebay prices.

EDIT: This is the other place in Springfield.

alright, ordered FF V repro...that's it, i'm out for SNES stuff! next thing i grab down the road'll be that good flashcart, mostly for fan efforts & stuff like BS Zelda.

Nice. Good thing you didn't get that messy one for 35.

Some people are going Super Castlevania 4 for Famicom, though you won't save too much. Of course Hagane is an obvious choice.

personally, i bought SFC versions of:

Haganae
Dracula X
R-Type III
Mega Man X3 (ive got the collection on PS2 if i want story, i figure)
Demon's Crest
Ninja Gaiden Trilogy

bought the PAL pocky & rocky and that didn't work for me, but a dude on Nintendo Age forums swapped out the region lock for $10 and it was still cheaper than a US copy, + still english

I picked up a copy of BS Zelda from the friendly guys over at the Nintendo Age Forums, since the original Legend of Zelda is my favorite game of all time. The thing that I really dislike about the game is the time restriction. You essentially have to complete the game in 3 hours and 20 minutes which is easily doable, but I like to take my time and explore everything.

Good choice! One of the best FF's IMO and it's a fantastic feeling to be able to play it on real hardware. I personaly went with the boxed white Timewalk version.

thanks! never finished it before, and was debating the GBA version but this should be cool when i get the itch. also what's the boxed white timewalk?

ah, that's the original version no? i know ive seen a ROM about with the time stuff mostly stripped out...well, there's still certain bonuses at certain times, and i recall the last dungeon or so wasn't available except at a set interval, but there were no real restrictions..looked like the perfect way to revisit Zelda 1. if i could find that on a cart with a nice label & price i think i'd jump, but honestly it'd be wiser for me to just save for a flashcart at this point, heh

That place is worse than the worst disc replay. Absolute eBay pricing, poor to middling selection, and it feels like you're walking around in a seedy porn shop or something.

That's kinda what I figured. I guess Springfield is officially dead to me.

holy hell, i could spend a fortune in that place...nice!

i know i asked, but i gotta write it down this time: what's the best (compatibility wise) SNES flashcart again? wish i could sort one that played NES hacks too, but alas

SD2SNES is the absolute best from what I've read. Good luck finding one, though.

Super Everdrive is the next best, but equally hard to find. The Powerpak is the only one I can find, but the way you save games sounds annoying. Might as well emulate on the Wii.

man i gotta do it on original hardware though! how far a difference are we talking between SD2SNES (holy hell stone age gamer wants $200+) and Super Everdrive? again this'd mostly be for ROM hacks anyway

The only difference is compatibility. Just check to see if the Powerpack runs the games you are interested in. You probably own the games it doesn't play.

Some guy is selling BoF2 for $30 an hour away. Not sure if it's worth it to drive down there.

Me too. I enjoy it and I don't go in expecting to find anything special. That feeling when you do is amazing.
