So, Drake is being accused of using ghost writers. Fuckery inside.

Somehow there wasn't a thread made in the OT about this. But Meek Mill accused Aubrey Graham (Drizzy Drake, 6 God) of not writing his own rhymes.

Meek was salty so most assumed dude was just on one.. Maybe upset if Drake was hitting up Nikki Minaj or some shit. No really, that's possible. Yes Meek Mill and Minaj are dating. This led to numerous great tweets making fun of Meek Mill. Including a tweet by Rick Ross himself calling Milly out.

Things settled down for like 10 hours before Funk Flex tweeted this:
The alleged "ghost writer" ended up being Quentin Miller from Atlanta. Here is a link of him singing 10 Bands the track off of Drake's latest album (TMZ Link).

Ultimately I think it's understandable that there are multiple writers inputting thought into rap songs. Kanye West has a team of people in the studio at any given time, many rappers do. The issue comes in how much is being written. At the end of the day rappers take pride in their lyrics, and Quentin Miller is credited for his input. So he's technically not a ghost writer. But this evidence surfacing begs the question. Is it one song? Is it more? Is it just the hits or album cuts too? Stay tuned for more bitter rappers and diss tracks (hopefully).

Whatever the fuck this means:

Meek trying to fall back today because Nicki told him to chill was hilarious.

Modern Hip Hop eh? It doesn't bother me. I'm not hung on on a Drake type rapper writing his own music. As long as it sounds good I'm cool with that.

Also, 40 is pretty convincing in making it sound like Drake writes at least most of his music.

Hip-Hop has a long history of ghostwriters. Drake's crediting this guy on the songs. I don't get the controversy. Dude has a credit, and is getting checks for it.

I can't imagine how much of a blowup Eazy-E would have endured if twitter was around in 1988.

"Cube actually has Eazy saying that he writes dude's rhymes! Its like Eazy is Ron Burgundy, he'll just say anything that's on the page. Fucking ridiculous. How am I supposed to believe he robbed a bank with MC Ren now? I bet that shit didn't even happen, man"

I thought most artists have people writing songs for them.

yeah, but rap is supposed to be more personal. More of a perspective. The meat of the genre is in the lyrics. So when you have someone else writing your perspective, it comes off bad.

not to say that a lot of folks don't have ghostwriters in the rap game - they definitely do.

This is real thing that happens, but:

  • Drake's audience has not and will continue not to give a fuck about "authenticity".
  • Meek chose the absolute worst dude to call out, given Meek's position in the game.

No one cares. We all love Drake. He's the GOAT. /s

I don't think anyone has ever called Drake the GOAT, but he definitely makes good music.

Drake's audience has not and will continue not to give a fuck about "authenticity".

Good. Authenticity is one of the stupidest words to describe music with. Completely vapid.

He didn't go out into the forest, chop down a tree, craft his own guitar and record heartfelt songs about lost love into a tape recorder if that's the level of "authenticity" you're looking for.

Meek of all people should know that in general people don't care about this shit considering his association with Rick Ross.

This is not a big deal. Many of the greats have used ghost writers or have had better writers pen music for them. We are in a generation of clueless idiots.

what the fuck is that analogy? lolololol

who cares about puff daddy?

as for dre and kanye they aren't known for their raps

If you ask something like this, I have to ask how old you are.

Edit: and you mean to tell me no one knows any lyrics to classic Kanye songs? Of course people care about their raps. They care more because of the great production, but they'd still be in the background of all they did was produce.

mainstream wise it wont matter, but yeah im sure its slightly dissapointing to some people

Not gonna lie, i'm disappointed. Drake prides himself on his lyrics being authentic to him and it was one of the things that helped elevate himself to the position he's at. Take Care is the most obvious example. It's not gonna make me stop being a fan, but it's kinda whack depending on how deep it is. But doesn't make me dislike Kanye and won't make me dislike Drake. but I'm sure both Drake/Kanye have written their own lyrics so this wouldn't discredit either of them.

also wtf @ only 60k a year for this. I was expecting at least 75k.

First let me say Meek is wack as fuck. Always shouting on the mic like he locked himself in the bathroom and can't get out. Garbo.

On topic, I think people are blowing this way out of proportion. On 10 Bands Drake clearly used a bunch of lines from Quentin Miller, can't really argue with that L, but people saying his whole career is from other writers seems way extreme (not saying you are doing this overcast, but it's going around). Or like his songwriting credits for other artists. Are those borrowed twice over then...? I dunno, doesn't make much sense tbh. Never mind the fact that Quentin has always been credited as a songwriter in the liner notes of If You're Reading This.

And there's all the specific references to things in his life. Like does Drake just give people a diary when these "writers" show up to the studio and say have at it?

"Ey Aubrey, I see you knew this dude in Houston named Johnny. Tell me about him."
"Well, he's this dope jeweler in Houston. Turned me onto a bunch of lavish shit. That's my boy."
"Turned you onto the finger things would you say?"
"Exactly! You getting an idea???"
"Oh yeah, this gonna be great. Also been reading this entry about you selling Girbaud jeans years ago. Gonna put that in the verse also."
"Nice!"

I don't think anyone has ever called Drake the GOAT, but he definitely makes good music.
