With all due respect to shpankey, his determination alone in this thread is pretty telling of what impression you're giving.

If people are truly interested in an explanation, I believe it can be found if you Find More Posts, wink wink.

Hehe, I did that. He doesn't seem to be very optimistic about anything Nintendo related, but I don't think it's bad enough to call him a fanboy really. Not helping his case though. Argh, why do I care, I need to finish my fucking essay before 8!

Haha he played Mario Sunshine. Sucker... In a serious note now, you definately have to play Metroid Prime, Eternal Darkness and Tales of Symphonia.

About Tales of Symphonia I'm going to pick that up for sure tomorrow. Now I just have a question about the whole "Tales" series. Are all the Tales games connected or iseach one a stand alone? Cause I'm planning to pick this up but if I don't and get Tales of Eternia for PSP would I still be able to know whats going?

TOS sucks get Paper MArio instead.

RE4 Rules and alot of that has to do with the Atmosphere created by the Jaw Dropping Graphics. You are stupid for waiting for an inferior version.

You don't need any knowledge of any other Tales games going into Symphonia, they don't have anything to do with each other. ToS is a great game.

I'm not a graphics whore so I don't care about how the damn game looks, only how it plays, I talk to my friends who has RE4 and they say there's a lot of slow downs and it doesn't run at full frames all the time especially during parts with a lot of action/ characters on screen. I've waited this long to play it I can wait another couple of months for a port.

Quote of the year.

EGM - Just buy GC RE4. Regardless of the perceived "completeness" of the GC version, it's an amazing game and you won't regret it at all. I cannot speak for certain, but I would imagine the PS2 version will be visually inferior & run at a considerably more inconsistent framerate...to get it up and running in the same fashion as the Cube version would defy logic.

I've noticed no slowdown, for what it's worth.

Other than that, I'll echo whoever said Paper Mario. I'm not that far into it yet (been distracted from games of late) but what I've played so far is quite brilliant.

Six months ago-

Man buys Gamecube and is bashed by Playstation and Xbox fans.

Today-

Man buys Gamecube and is bashed by Gamecube fans.

:lol :lol

(and yeah, I read the whole thread and I agree that waiting for the PS2 version of RE4 is pretty dumb, but ya gotta admit the whole thread is pretty ironic, though)

YES, I AM DONE WITH AN HOUR TO SPARE!! I won't fail English after all; who knew I could get a 10 page essay done in 5 hours starting from scratch?! Works cited lists fucking SUCK!!

Why am I kidding myself, none of you care. *cries and gets ready for school after not getting any sleep*

You're the first one to get it!

"I'm rappin all day and I'm rappin all night..." Classic! The new formtat took some getting used to tho.

Looks like he's a fakeboy! Somebody post the "Burn him!" villagers pic from RE4, quick!

Edit: finaly out of this junior sucker limbo!

Nick makes an appearance in the new series! I wish I could catch it. :(

Hopefully someone "releases it". :D

Dude, I know what you mean about waiting to play the complete version, but you must realize that the PS2 port is not the platform the development team MEANT for you, the player, to play the game on. It's merely an executive order by idiotic suits looking to boost their stocks.

Anyway, if you're not going to buy RE4 for the GC, please, PLEASE, PLEASE just rent it. It's an outstanding game and it's in my personal opinion that I think you'll be really missing out on a great, unique game meant to be played on the GameCube.

Waiting cause I of... well... more content, I'm the kinda guy that has to have a "complete" version of the game. So if there is exclusive content for the PS2 version I'd rather have that then spending 50-60$ now and then another 60$ a couple of months later for the same game with just more stuff.

Is Metriod Prime 2 any good? Also Baten Kaitos? friends have been recommending those 2

Umm, you do know that the PS2 version will be inferior in every way dispite the extra cutscene and Dante right?

What da fuck is up with people who hate the RE4 PS2 port so much? Let people buy what the hell they want. We know you Ndroids think the port will look like ass. Leave it alone. Play your prefered version and leave it there. Some people actually do care more about content than graphics.

And try to sell the Gamecube for an exclusive game instead. It'd be hilaruous if Xbots were trying to sell Xboxes because of Chaos Theory :lol

well .. they did for Splinter Cell ;)

I dont think many people on here are fans of RE at this point -- I know I've never been one. I tried RE2 on the PSX and hated it but tried REmake when it came out and hated that too after a few hours. RE4 is just so good that it's impossible to hate even if you arent a fan of the series.

And no, there is not a lot of slowdown and in fact, I can't recall seeing any in the first 5 chapters of the game. There's possibly been a time or two, but if there were, it was completely negligible.

There is no guarantee there is gonna be any worthy extras on the ps2 version..it really just boggles the mind somebody would want to wait almost a year when they could just go and buy it now. The original team has nothing to do with the ps2 port, nor ever wanted anything like this to happen...You can expect the port to be an abortion to the highest degree.

well if you just bought a Gamecube I see no reason to NOT pick up RE4. If you just bought a PS2 on the other hand I can see people waiting for the PS2 version.

EGM92 said:
Besides graphics what would be the difference between a GC version and PS2 version besides the graphics and more content on one then the other?. I don't see why waiting for a COMPLETE game is so bad. Also why are you stating the GC is a better version? How would you know without playing another version to compare it with.

From the "First info on RE4 PS2 port quality" thread:

According to a japanese publication (CG World), the Capcom team working on the PS2 version of RE4 are facing a very difficult time porting the game to Sony's console.

Here are some few points they mentioned in the article:

------------------------------------

1). The original team headed by Shinji Mikami was able to incorporate 24-bit textures into the GameCube edition of RE4.

However the team working on the port of RE4 will have to incorporate downsampled 4- and 8-bit textures into the PS2 version, whose texture memory capacity is far smaller than that of the Nintendo console.

------------------------------------

2). The polygon count used for the main protagonist (Leon) will have to drop down from 10.000 seen in the GC version, to half that amount in order to perform well on the PS2 version.

The magazine mentions that Leon has almost 3 times the amount of polygons than the Solid Snake character featured in Metal Gear Solid 3 for the PS2. Snake is made up of only 4000 polygons.

(As a side note, according to Factor 5, the pilots from Rogue Squadron were comprised of 4000 polygons. The X-Wings themselves, were made up of 30,000 polygons!)

------------------------------------

3). Due to the PS2's huge Direct Memory Access bandwidth, the team working on the RE4 version will be able to provide an exceptionally high number of textures into the game.

However, adding such textures to the polygons will slow down the frame rate of the game, even more so than it occasionally happens in the GC version. This due to the PS2's limited texture memory capacity.

The PS2 version will have dramatic frame-rate problems if they try to include all the texture layers and polygonal lighting featured in the GC version. Some major adjustments will have to be made.

------------------------------------

4). The GC graphics engine can produce 50 percent more polygons to all the characters than the PS2. The PS2's graphics engine can draw 10 million triangles per second, but after adding gameplay, collision, logic, sound, and so forth, the PS2 edition of RE4 ultimately will move around 30,000 to 50,000 triangles per frame, at an average rate of 30 frames per second.

The GameCube also has a faster CPU that can boost the frame rate to 60 frames per second (twice that of the PS2), and utilizes its texture compression ability to deliver high-resolution textures with improved color variance.

And then from the "Official RE4 thread":

http://www.gamesarefun.com/news.php?newsid=4310

In conclusion, Resident Evil 4 is the perfect hardware comparison between the PS2 and Gamecube. But PS2 owners, do not fear! Extras are to be included into the PS2 version, such as a gallery and making of featurette!

So you should probably ask yourself what have you seen out of the PS2 version that makes you SO WILLING to wait another 180 days for the thing rather than go for the version that is already out which you know what it looks and plays like.

So you shouldn't be shocked that people would bash you since your ignoring the sure thing to take a risk and a wait for something else. Your not even going to rent the damn thing....Anyway since it hasn't been pointed out I'll do it but by the time the PS2 version comes out the Cube version will probably be available for around $20. So you'd be paying $50 for the PS2 version when you could pick the Cube version up for $30 cheaper. :/

As for the Cube games I'd recommend:

Resident Evil Remake
Eternal Darkness
Zelda The Wind Waker
F-Zero GX
Viewtiful Joe
Viewtiful Joe 2
Tales of Symphonia
Paper Mario
Metroid Prime 2
Resident Evil Zero
Pikmin
Pikmin 2
Star Wars Rogue Squadron II
Star Wars Rebel Strike
Super Monkey Ball
Super Monkey Ball 2
FFCC
Mario Kart Double Dash
Ikaruga
Mario Party 5 or Mario Party 6
Baten Kaitos
Animal Crossing
Bomberman Generation
Billy Hatcher (only because you mentioned you liked platformers)

This thread amuses me...

I can see why it got so many replies

Even as a huge Nintendo fan I would say return or chuck out your Gamecube if your are not even going to have sense enough to stick R4 in that bitch - why even buy a GC? Stick with your PS2!

Shit I just got a PS2 and I am waiting for GTA 3 to come out for my cube, you know for the extras.

---

Gamers can smell a good game, the hardcore geek ones know how to research the game deep to the core.

Fanboyism aside some people are just not fit to be called a Gamer.

LOL #1 - You bought a GC.

LOL #2 - You're going to wait for and buy RE4 on the PS2

I'd recommend games to buy for the Cube, but the list is rather small and I'm confident all the good ones have been named.

Just avoid PN 03, it's terrible.

Wait, too late.

Holy shit!

1) His friends have RE4
2) He can play theirs
3) He's got plenty to keep him occupied.
4) $50 is a lot of money to some
5) He's willing to play it eventually
6) He plays his games instead of taking screenshots

This is completely qualified reasoning. Talk about childish behavior, leave the guy alone about it!

So this week I was at my local gameshop and I see they had a clearence on refurbished GC's directly from Nintendo, so I said what the hell 30$ for a cube can't hurt. So I picked it up along with a couple of remotes and a couple of memory cards and game. Ended up costing me about 130$ for everything which is pretty good keeping in mind that my local EB has the console new for $119.99CAD.

Now as for games I got stuff from the bargin bin, Mario Sunshine, Smash Bros, Project N03, Metriod, Metal Gear:TTS, and Smugglers Run.

Thus far I've been having a lot of fun with the GC, good load times, a lot of cool games with friends. Now I need to know, what are the "Must HAVE" Gamecube games besides RE4?, I'm going to wait for the PS2 version. I already beat Mario Sunshine which was "alright" but I expected more. Any good platformers? RPG's?

Thats for the input guys.
Beach Spikers (there are mild-RPG aspects)
Super Monkey Ball 1 & 2
Pikmin 2 (skip the first -- 2 fixes everything that was wrong with 1)
Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike
Freedom Fighters
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
Mario Kart: Double Dash!!
NBA Street V3 (:D)

Also, either borrow RE4 from your friends or rent it and form your own damn opinion about the game! :)

And for good measure:

EGM92: You may not have realised that shpankey is one of GAF's most enthusiastic Nintendo-bashers. If he tells you to get a Gamecube game, you damn well better get that Gamecube game. Trust me, after you finish the game [edit - before you even finish the first disc], its not going to feel like an incomplete version.

My recommendations:

Resident Evil 4
Zelda: Wind Waker*
Metroid Prime 2 Echoes
Mario Kart (great multi)
Star Wars Rogue Leader (if you can find it, otherwise...)*
Star Wars Rebel Strike (it has all of Rogue Leader as multi)*
SoulCalibur 2*
Pikmin 2
Viewtiful Joe*
Viewtiful Joe 2
TimeSplitter 2 (fun multi)*
Luigi's Mansion (short but fun)*
Donkey Kongo
Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat (next month)
Paper Mario
Tale of Symphonia
Baten Kaitos

*Player's Choice title (or found new for cheap)

If he likes the game and wants to replay it and start trying to do stuff out of order (sequence breaking, etc), then he'll have a much harder time with the PC version, because they added artificial locks to the game, and took some moves out that allow you to do all of the stuff.

AKA they "fixed" the game in a bad way if you like that type of stuff to do.

EGM92: I'm guessing you ride the same short bus to school with your friends?

( :lol :lol :lol :lol @ the entire thread )

As complete I don't mean main story. I mean extras, I enjoy a game that has replay value with different characters, more items, extra areas to explore. Thats what I mean by complete. As for what the creators want or didn't want to do I personally don't give a shit, if there was no PS2 version I'd buy it for GC now but since there's one coming... I'll wait.

This thread has gone way off topic with all the RE Fanaticism.

i could care less what you buy but thought i'd let you know that the RE4 that is out has all that stuff you mentioned.

after you beat the game it opens 2 other mini games. one where you unlock 5 other charecters and weapons. not to mention the mini game that is in the main game as well.

i'd try out
wind waker
RE Remake
Ikaruga (must have if you liked games like galaga)
beyond good and evil
soul calibur II

sounds like you already got a decent list started.
oh and mario paper has been fun so far as well.
my kid and i play it together.

Actually, I'm 5 minutes behind the single segment 100% record (I got a 2:03, my best otherwise is 1:59 100%) in Prime 1, and have the 'played but not recorded' record for 100% on Prime 2 (3:47). I was telling that poster what was different from the regular release of Prime and the Player's Choice version. :)

Some differences are:
You can't get the Plasma Beam early. They've added a lock on the door to the Plasma Beam that doesn't go away until after you pick up the Grapple Beam, and for the Grapple Beam you can't do a scan dash to the door to get to it quickly, and even if you do a combat dash to the door, it has a lock also that doesn't go away until after you get Power Bombs. There's more than that though, but those are the main gripes along with not being able to scan dash.

About the only positive thing about the Player's Choice version is that the random game crashing spots were fixed. And if you don't care to try stuff out of order, then the PC version is fine, unless you change your mind later on down the road and you are SOL for doing the full potential of stuff.

oh I totally got you wrong there. I thought you refered to PC (and not players choice) games because of the first person view.

Never seen the game for PC. :)

I have played 1st person games before, but I don't like many of them (I did used to play CS though).
