So, just how strong is Piccolo?

Does it matter.

Once DBZ hit, if you weren't a Saiyan you were just worthless punching bag that spent 99% of episode going "S-such power!!!Incredible!!!Is it really [insert Goku/Gohan/Vegeta/Trunks/etc. here)?"

Besides everything should've ended after Frieza (with Goku dyinng), Cell saga at best(with Goky dying and Gohan becoming his successor).

The whole Buu saga was horrible, not even touching GT.

Including everyone from the Android saga, it looks like:

Gohan
Perfect Cell
"Super" Trunks
"Super" Goku
"Super" Vegeta
Imperfect Cell+17
16
Imperfect Cell+energy from killing lots of humans
17
Piccolo + Kami
Imperfect Cell
18
Vegeta
19
Goku

The "super" versions are from training in the Hyperbolic time chamber.

There are 4 Stages of the 1st level of Super Saiyan

1. Normal Super Saiyan - The state all Saiyans that achieve a Super Saiyan start in.
2. Ascended Super Saiyan - Muscle Mass increases but not at such a level it affects mobility. Expends energy at a very high rate, which makes this form obsolete.
3. Ultra Super Saiyan - The form Trunks uses to fight Cell. Increased Muscle Mass and Power that sacrifices Speed. It is physically the most powerful state, but the inability to hit a fast moving target diminishes its value.
4. Full-Powered Super Saiyan - The most useful state of Super Saiyan Level 1 attained after a large amount of training in Super Saiyan state. The physical and mental state of the Super Saiyan are one. The Super Saiyan is in control of his emotions. Energy Consumption is very low in this state. A Saiyan could stay in this state indefinitely without a conscious effort to stay in the Super Saiyan state.

Pretty much this.

It goes:
Goku => All the other saiyans => Piccolo => Humans/Clay Pigeons/Punching bags/ Dirt. etc.

Yeah, the one downside to Dragon Ball was after the realization of Saiyans(that can become Super) > Everything, everyone who wasn't a Saiyan or part Saiyan became irrelevant, which sadly also led to only Goku/Vegeta and their kids being factors by the time we hit the Buu saga, everyone else was fodder, though I guess Piccolo was the best teacher and stayed a bit more relevant then the rest because he still had god sight from the palace.

No he didn't, that was all filler.

We aren't talking about the manga though, in the context of the show Yamcha definitely has a power level greater than 9000. Did I also mention the power levels are ridiculous after they get to a certain point (Freiza saga). What do you think Tien's power level was when he halted imperfect Cell with Tri-beam just out of interest?

Do you think Nappa and Raditz can stand against Piccolo?
No, but Super Sayian Raditz might look cool. I always liked using Raditz and Barrock, when available, in the Budokai/Tenkaichi games(which I love, so sue me), mostly because with a little work and clever fighting I could beat my friends using Goku, Kid Buu, Broly, etc and make them look and feel foolish. In DBZ:BT3 my group of friends feared my Bardock,(highlight of my fighting game career hah)

Piccolo was always one of my favorites, I typically prefer the under powered fighters that, while strong in their own right, have to outfox the OP competition.

budokai 2 on the gamecube is one of my most played games of all time :)

I actually like the Buu saga. Yeah it was incredibly long and drawn out, but we got the Goku vs Vegeta fight (finally) plus the badassery that is SSJ3 Goku. Plus if you don't bother to watch the final three or so episodes, it finishes nicely too.

Heh, we used the GameCube for Super Smash Bros. Melee and one of the 007 games. PS2 for our DBZ. I'm not sure how many controllers we ruined by shining the sticks during beam battles. :nostalgia:

My main problem was that Toriyama didn't fully develop Gohan after Cell games.

Gohan should've realized that even if he hated fighting and was pacifist he WAS fated to protect the earth.

If Gohan was the one to fight throughout the Buu saga and defeat him in the end, instead of shoehorning Goku again, it would've been miles better.

I agree. Goku should have been left alone to rest.

Great Sayia-man? I wanted to slap someone... Once Gohan had gone SSJ2 and fired that one armed Kamehameha I was sold on Gohan. But then The costume.... Mystic Gohan had a moment, but then he was eaten by Scrub Buu....

Piccolo is stronger than Goten and Trunks, but weaker than SSJ Goten and Trunks, for reference.

No, as a Super Namek he's clearly stronger than 18, Goten, and normal Trunks by the end of DBZ.

He can't hang with USSJ Trunks/Goku/Vegeta by theend of the cell saga, though it's shown he does a better job fighting the Cell jr than a weakened Goku. He's not in the same league as any SSJ2 or beyond characters.

Edit: and Tienshinhan has always been the most powerful human, since the DB days, and no one has surpassed him. He only died before Krillin in the Saiyan invasion because he was pissed off. Even with Krillin's guru power boost Tien is a far more capable fighter after having trained with King Kai (evidenced by his brief moment of awesome against Cell), and then in the Buu saga after having trained in the wilderness for years he's able to deflect a blast from Buutenks. In the Bojack movie he holds his own against non-SSJ Trunks.

Some of the discarded designs for Buu saga Gohan were pretty great also:

Shame we ended up with a design that looks nothing like his kid version.

His moment in the sun is during the Android saga. While Vegeta and Goku are busy in the hyperbolic time chamber, his merging with Kami makes him the strongest in the world (aside from Cell) for that brief window.

He PROBABLY could have beaten 17 over time, but since that fight got interrupted, we'll never know.

By the Buu saga, he's behind everyone and is only above the regular humans.

He was stronger than Super Saiyan Trunks and Goten in the Buu saga. Two events serve as evidence of that.

1.Piccolo was clearly stronger than android 18, yet Trunks and Goten both had to go SSJ to stand up to her during the tournament.

2.When Super Buu started to fuse with the Z fighters, he took on the appearance of the strongest fighter he had absorbed, and after Trunks and Goten defused inside of him, his appearance defaulted to Piccolo's look.

Blame goes to Toriyama not having a backbone and the shitty vocal fans in Japan.

Yamcha beats recoome on King Kai's planet, and recoome has a power level of like 45,000 or something. Not sure about Videl but she fights spopavich (sp?), what were their power levels then?

Ah yes, I remember that episode where Yamcha, Tien and co was on King Kai's planet and received the same training as Goku. They weren't more powerful than Goku but yes, they were definitely over power level 9000 at that time.

This wasn't the case for Videl though. She trained under Gohan at an later stage in the series but she never received any King Kai training (environment condition also in consideration) nor get her power level checked. However, considering the people she fought and lost against, I believe she is definitely not over power level 9000.

Yeah, that one on the right would've been perfect.

Gohan should've become more serious and resolve to train just in case Earth needs his help again even it goes againt his inner will.

Time skip Gohan could've been still a bit nerdy but more assholish and defnitely powered up from training.

Such a perfect opportunity for Toryiama to pass the stick from Goku to Gohan and he blew it.

How does Recoome end up on King Kai's planet? Does he travel the snake, and if so, for what purpose? I assumed he ended up in hell straight away. (I've only read the manga)

His special attack was always one of my favorites

Hell_Zone_Grenade.jpg

This attack did absolutely nothing. One of the more disappointing bits about DBZ as it went along is that the only fighter to actually use new, innovative techniques in his fights was Gotenks. Tien and Piccolo had a million tricks up their sleeves in DB. Would have been awesome if Tien trapped Super Perfect Cell with the Evil Containment Wave. You know, that attack he spent an entire season learning from Master Roshi while Goku was somewhere jerking off looking for magic beans or something.

Can't remember exactly but I think King Kai allows the Ginyu Force to keep their bodies so that Tien/Yamcha/Chiaotzu would be able to test themselves against strong opponents.

Piccolo is like anyone else in the series. Any time he gets better, he has a few minutes in the spotlight but is then bested almost right away.

At least he got to use the Makousenha...once. And it didn't do shit. The idea of an "energy grenade" is kind of cool though.

Piccolo sucks. Always brooding and sulking around like some kind of badass, but still getting his ass kicked at every turn and only making significant jumps in power by absorbing others.
