I got me one of these bitches:

snes.jpg

Along with:
Super Star Wars
Killer Instict
Mortal Kombat II
Street Fighter II
Darius Twins
Pitfall
Super Mario Allstars
Super Metroid

Now for teh shocker:

This is my first time ever owning this system. Hell, I've only touched a SNES twice before tonight.

Quick Observations: the A/V cable is the same as the GC and N64 one so SNES SVideo for me! :b Can't say I like the controller that much as it's too small for my hands (just resting my fingers on the triggers has me touching the cable with both fingertips) though, otherwise, it's a very solid controller...even if it has the Nintendo-style D-Pad.

The system itself is rather boxy and looks meek compared to the Genny right next to it, but I absolutely adore the eject button as it can fling a cartridge a half foot into the air :b

The games themselves are decent, though only Super Mario All-Stars and SF2 receieved more than just a few minutes of playtime

hmm...soo....what's next?

Do you like RPGs?

Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo + Genesis + 6 Button Controller >>>*

If so, pretty much every Squaresoft game released for the system

Edit: In the future it might be a good idea to say exactly what party you're late to in the thread title instead of some "snappy" bullshit that isn't funny.

Well, you NEED to get Super Mario World if your all stars isn't the one w/SMW. That's the platformer that has yet to be matched.

I'll take your word for it...loved SSF2T [Gen] back in the day.

I'm going to start my search for RPGs soon...gah...so many titles...so small of a local selection

Alan: It is included...didn't know there was another edition without it =\ Besides, I have it on the GBA and have played it before (my first experience with a SNES actually)

I prefer SMB3

Ah, the US SNES has such a beautiful shell. Has your unit turned that nasty beige color from its original lovely gray?

I didn't like the SNES all that much, but it did have a few awesome games on it. Pick up Super Castlevania IV, stat! Best atmosphere in any SNES game. And some of the best music in any game.

Congrats on the addition!

Here are some cartridge possibilities that I recommend:

Axelay: Very cool shmup... huge bosses, difficulty is medium to slightly difficult. Nice visuals and awesome OST.

Space Megaforce: Another cool shmup, lots of similarities to Blazing Lazers (IIRC, both games are the fruit of the same development team).

Super Castlevania IV: It's Castlevania BEFORE the Super Metroid makeover. Great music, sweet use of Mode 7 at times, and it's got Death. Come on!

ActRaiser: A sweet combination of action and "Sim" gameplay, with a stellar Yuzo Koshiro OST and colorful visuals. Tight action, too... but a little on the short side.

These are just a few... I could go on for awhile, but I'm sure other posters will have other suggestions. Have fun!

i played it with 3 button controller and used start to switch to punches/kicks, hell, i was damn good too, could beat the game on highest difficulty and on turbo too like that. maybe this means nothing though. i never had anyone to play with, and i had 4 games only during that generation: sonic 2, sf 2, streets of rage 2 and mlb baseball (which i later 'exchanged' with a rental store for aladdin)

I will recommend a few games

NBA Jam – Only if you are going to play 2 or 4 player

Bomberman – The Main game is entirely Co-Op plus great 4 player battles!

Super Mario World – Best 2D Platformer ever!

Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi – More of what you saw in Super Star Wars, Big boss battles great Arcade/Platforming action!

And yeah you got your no brainier purchases as well!

man, i can't imagine owning an snes until now...

if you're the type that can still enjoy older games (unfortunately i can't) i have a few recommendations:

actraiser (i see a few people have already recommended it and i definitely cosign)
super castlevania
contra III
magical quest starring mickey mouse
f-zero (arcadestickmonk is right on the money)
out of this world (i'm not sure how it would hold up by today's standards, but was unique for its time)
tmnt: turtles in time (great multiplayer fun)

Oh yeah turtles in Time is such an awesome Co-Op game!

This makes me miss my SNES even more!

One of my favorite games from that time period. Absolutely fantastic.

Here ya go (trying to recommend some games others haven't):

Legend of the Mystical Ninja
Ninja Warriors Again
Final Fight 3
Pocky & Rocky
Super Ghouls N Ghosts
Cybernator
Arkanoid Doh It Again
R-Type III
Tetris Attack

For an RPG, I'll recommend something outside the typical Square stuff: Ultima VI: The False Prophet. Assuming you haven't played the PC version, it's a very good port and an excellent RPG. Don't bother with the port of VII though, it's quite different from the PC version.

Yeah, it don't. Not at all. I played it about a year ago and all it was was memorizing what seemingly innocuous thing is going to kill you in the next screen. Little slugs kill you. Elevators shoot poison gas at you. Mushrooms explodify you. Ok, maybe I'm talking about the sequel but my bile remains valid. Damn game had some of the worst controls ever.

Genesis version of Flashback >>>>>>>>>OotW

I strongly recommend Actraiser. Unique, if a little short, but the score alone is truly incredible and an makes the game worth hunting down. Great mix of God-mode simulation and side-scrolling action.

DEAD WRONG MA!

The controller was nice, but that game just looked and sounded like shit in comparission to the mighty SNES version!!!

Dude, get Super Metroid first and foremost.

Then I'd hit up the Mega Man X series, but expect to pay dearly for 2 or 3. They are awesome though.

You're an idiot.

get lufia 2 for some SNES RPGs. shouldn't be too expensive, and it's really fucking awesome. I think it's aged better than the squaresoft stuff if only because it wasn't trying to be a graphical monster, and they put a lot of focus into the dungeons. as typical as the story is, some of the dialogue and situations are hilarious.

No he's right. The game looks interesting, but it plays like crap.

I own the Genny version already so there's no point in getting the SNES one

compiling a list and gonna check out the local shops later today....would rather loose my left nut than buy online, though

A friend told me MMX3 is worth A LOT of money with the original box and everything. Well, needless to say, with me being in college and my family not giving a damn about my sh*t during the classic "It's a celebration @ FT's house - let's send the kids back into his room to play games while we have a good ol' time in the living room!", my box has been rendered into tattered cardboard and my instruction booklet is missing. Same goes for MMX2. Hell, the same goes for most of my games pre-N64 cause those were the only systems the kids were able to get their hands on whenever I was away.

My cousins seriously do not deserve another gift (birthday/xmas/whatever reason) from me for the rest of their young lives....and their parents.....

Just like when my family forced me to give my NES and games to my little cousins....I can't even go into the system and games' current state without wanting to go on a killing spree. I seized that poor thing from their clutches the moment I was able to...doesn't work though and a lot of the games are in bad condition...Both SNES and NES are living the rest of their lives with me now, awaiting the day they pass on to console-heaven like old folks at the nursing home.... :_(

When I get rich, I'm gonna restore my collection....

Must haves (IMO):

Super Mario World
Actraiser
Castlevania IV
Contra II
Zelda: A Link to the Past
Street Fighter 2 Turbo
TMNT IV
Space Megaforce
Mario Kart
Secret of Mana
Axelay
Super Metroid
Final Fantasy III
Donkey Kong Country
Chrono Trigger
MegaMan 7
Yoshi's Island
Super Mario RPG

Since the best game on the SNES, Yoshi's Island, has been mentioned, I recommend Daffy Duck: The Marvin Missions.
