So should I try Naruto when I am sort of feeling too old?

Indeed. Well, there's a lot of things that I feel can be argued as being the "best things" about One Piece. But yeah, it largely lacking in teenage BS like overbearing romance and angst/edginess is a big plus.

Right. Sorry. Shoulda said "The best things about one piece are chopper and brook." Lack of angst is up next.

The problem with Naruto is that the Manga is way faster, but there's so many flashbacks and so many conversations inside a character's head and when every character looks the same and it's all black and white, it all kind of runs together. The anime solves the issue of what's what and who's who, but they also stretch goddamn everything out to oblivion.

Overall I'd say that if you're interested in going through it, then while the manga is way faster, I'd recommend the anime and just skip all the filler. There're some fantastic fight scenes and openings once you get to them and the whole thing is far clearer.

Naruto is fantastic, but it definitely has started to drag towards the end of the series. The first 10 years were some of the best manga ever created though.

Is the anime finished? I stopped two or three years ago because I like to watch a lot of episodes in one run.

Love the series by the way and can't understand the love for many suggestions that are made in this thread. But it is good to see so many different opinions :)

what about one piece is that something good to get into it looks like it has lots of interesting characters

Yes do it... there's *alot* though so get ready for a ride.

Also it's kinda slow in the beginning, isn't until the Nami arc (~ep 40) it starts finding it's stride... picks up even more once they get to the grand line. Just gets better and better from there.

It's not really known how long One Piece is going to continue to run for, most of the estimates for One Piece's continued length comes from the fact that the main characters passed the halfway point of the Grand Line in manga chapter 598 or roughly 13 years into the run of the series. Since they were only halfway through the Grand Line after 13 years, it's speculated that this is the halfway point of the series.
Yeah, I was loosely reiterating what I had heard before from others, but it doesn't change the basic fact the end is nowhere in sight for OP (and I don't expect a cancellation short of something catastrophic happening given how popular OP is) while Naruto must be ending soon, so someone who was invested in Naruto before may want to follow to see how it ends while OP is too far to justify that angle if you don't currently care for it.

At this point, I'm only watching it so I can see how it ends and to see the Internet's bitter tears when
Sakura ends up with Naruto.

Not me bro. I already won that battle in how I met your mother and I'll win this one. Also not surprised that a lot of haters are One Piece fans.

Edit: If you get into One Piece, I recommend skipping some arcs entirely.

The best anime is Gintama, it's fucking hilarious. Try it. The "filler" episodes make up most of it, with very small arcs in between, but it actually works in its favour.

Watch it till the end of the chunin exam. If it doesnt click with you leave it in the dust. Me personally I loved everything before the time skip .... than I dropped it. Just lost interest.

If you really want to see Naruto, I reccomend the manga instead but really you shouldn't see it at all but that's my opinion.

The anime butchered the Skypea arc? I liked it in the manga, even tho it didn't live up to the Alabasta arc before it.

Is not about the quality, is just that absolutely nothing of importance happened. Unlike Naruto where every 10 chapters you have scenarios wildly changing from one another, you can easily skip entire arcs in One Piece without missing anything.

If you must, stop when you reach the end of the pre time skip story. I feel it became a lot more nonsensical and nose dived in quality as the story progressed after the time skip.

Lot of things happen

1. You learn more about the different type of fruits, and how OP Logia fruits are
2. It's where going merry takes her big spill
3. The dials are introduced
4. The end fight is great, and has the classic enel face.
5. More backstory on the Poneglyph.
6. Mantra is introduced

I feel Gintama works better when you start getting the references. I'd save that for when you've seen more anime. It's defiitely not a gateway series, imo.
