So what's the word on Guild Wars?

I've been reading about Guild Wars on and off since it's been announced and was wondering what the general consesus about it here was...

I'm interested in the fact it requires more skill than time, has quick combat and has instanced zones.

One thing that is really starting to get to me (yes its even hitting me on WoW) is how time consuming they are... maybe my MMORPG days (since Ultima Online) are finally over. :( It's just so hard anymore to dedicate so much time to this one game and do nothing more than grind away trying to get to level X. And for what? To PvP on laggy battlegrounds and zerg with a bunch of people hoping that somehow we get the upperhand? This is skill? Feels like such a waste.

So my question on Guild Wars is it's it different than this or is it more of the same use X, Y, Z attack and repeat until enemy is dead or you die?

Maybe I'll just buy Battlefield 2. :O

It is NOT an MMORPG -- it's like PSO with lobbies/towns full of players and instanced dungeons/play areas.

Wasn't asking for debate whether it was an MMORPG or not... I don't care about realism, I don't care about virtual economy, I was asking whether this game is fun or not. What the general feeling behind it is. Is the PvP fun and skillful? What about the instances? Are they fun? Are they better quests then "fetch me 4 bananas" or "kill 5 chipmunks" type?

Judging by the beta events I've played so far, It seems like this may be the game for you. Combat is definately more skill based and the amount of time you need to dedicate to it is MUCH less then your standard MMORPG. Combat in this game is actually extremely fun and feels more action based then standard fare rpg battles.

Ahh yes that's what I like to hear. I heard PvE combat is much like Diablo 2 as in you rush into a room and kill 3-10 enemies at once instead of the one-at-a-time syndrome almost every MMORPG suffers from.

How are the different PvP arenas (like king of the hill or whatnot)? What do you think the best class combinations are or is it pretty balanced from what you've seen?

And don't get me wrong, I love WoW but I can see my interests slowly changing and at level 33 I'm really starting to feel the grind. I cant even imagine what level 50+ is like... bleh. Thank GOD for rest state. I can just take a break every 2 weeks or so and come back and level fast. :O

The game is gorgeous, but I think the design just feels a bit generic, even if it's gorgeous. I also constantly have problems targetting because mobs and party members frequently swarm together and it's nearly impossible to pick one particular target out of the fray with the mouse in any reliable manner - I wish there were a "cycle targets" button or something (maybe there is and I've just missed it in all the beta events).

Anyway, I haven't decided if I'm going to buy it yet. I paid $10 for the pre-buy package at Best Buy in order to get a code to play the beta events, but I'm not sure I'd shell out the rest of the money for the game or not. I only really played through scenarios with mobs, didn't really play with anyone else or do the arena competitions.
