Remember hearing it for couple of times in the past years and it havent materialize
Maybe it will launch as the frontend for the Playstation handheld

Personally can't wait to support Sony here. Hope I can add the PC launcher on my Steam Deck

Developing a good store alternative to Steam that people will want to use would require actual effort and investment. Sony sees PC as a nice secondary revenue stream, but it's not the focus for them at all.

Need to release more games on the PC before they think about a launcher. If it launched today, there would only be one little non scrolling page in the store

When they've maximised the growth potential of console through taking the vast majority of Xbox user come the start of next generation. In addition to expanding the brand in emerging markets such as China, Indian, Middle East and Africa.

I don't think it'll work as people are entrenched in the Steam ecosystem and satisfied with the service and support. Playstation would need to provide a better product from the jump than Steam which couldn't be replicated in a timely manner (years).

To have complete control. No matter what happens with SteamOS devices and Steam on future Xboxes or ROG "Not Xbox" devices it wouldn't be a concern.
PlayStation games would only be played on a PlayStation ™ console or handheld or launcher.

And they wouldn't lose a cut to Valve, all the money would go into their own pockets.

They can have a cohesive PlayStation experience everywhere with trophies, cloud saves, screens, playtime, streaming, all things in the same place.

They could even do purchase syncing and shorten delays or even do day 1 releases if they want to go that route.

Wouldn't have to deal with Steam review bombings.

If they wanted to do a cloud variant in the future they could just have the launcher app available everywhere.

Do you mean cross buy? Without day and date that would be useless.

Cross play and save doesn't need a launcher and is already a thing in some cases.
It is? I didn't know that. I don't believe it's mart to do cross launches day 1. Looking at Rockstar. Of course Sony doesn't have such quality, but still 3 year gap as it is now is too much.

idk trophy, cross buy and stuffs.
Why would trophies and cross buy matter to PC owners? If Steam is there ecosystem of choice and they don't own PlayStation console a launcher doesn't offer an advantage over Steam.

Playstation would have to produce something as popular as a Valorant or Fortnite and leverage access to it and it's future Playstation published games to the storefront. See Epic to see how well that approach is going.

Because there are PC owners who come from the console side who play on both console and PC and don't want to juggle multiple saves and purchase the games twice.

I doubt they will with their current porting strategy. They lose 30% to Valve now on every sale. The amount they lose is probably still a lot less than it would cost to set up a PC launcher/store.

There's no plans.
Like movie streaming, they'll just use others.
That's not how Sony usually do it on the gaming side. They want control. Ruler of their own walled garden.

Can't do it like that on Steam. There Valve sets the rules. And takes a cut from everything. And Sony has to tag along with their games no matter where Valve decides to take Steam.

Upside: If Valve spread out and manage to drastically increase the Steam userbase then Sony's games will have a potentially increased userbase.

Downside: If Valve spread out and manage to drastically increase the Steam userbase then Sony's own devices will have a potentially decreased userbase.

You have a point. Could be another PS cashcow.

I would not install it to maybe try out Gran Turismo. No interest in other PS games.

It's actually closer to 20%.

As to why Sony probably doesn't have a launcher yet, is most likely because outside of Helldivers they haven't had much success with a stratosphere-type game. We also know that they plan on putting Tokon Fighting Souls on Steam and Epic, so it's certainly not around the corner.

The next time we probably have to examine this is with Wolverine, which is probably two years out. They're paying at least 9% of revenue to Marvel and upwards of 18% and 20% to Valve... so potentially you're looking at 38% royalties dropping this game on PC...

That's staggering.

If Sony has billions to burn in hopes of competing with Steam, then I say go for it. Dunno how well it's going for Epic, they seem to have bottomless pockets at least.
I admit I'm one of those people that if I can't find a game on Steam, then I'm most likely not playing it. Still haven't played Alan Wake 2 despite loving the first one cause I can't be arsed to start using epic for couple of games.

I think it's more likely that Sony develops a small launcher that opens when you start the game, similar to almost every other studio.

The best option would be to buy Valve, otherwise why bother? Epic has poured millions and achieved little.

Epic has one game: Fortnite... (two if you count Genshin Impact which runs on EGS on PC).

Sony has several games and if they want to they could cement things even further with further investments into Kadokawa.

Imagine Elden Ring 2, Destiny 3, Helldivers 3, Demon's Souls, Bloodborne, Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls 2, God of War Egypt, Spider-Man 3 e.t.c. all exclusive to a Sony PC store launcher... add to that some exclusive 3rd party titles...

I think it would find success.

Impossible given Sony's massive market position (though somewhat easier than if MS were to do it because they have zero position in PCs).

Lmao, not happening. Sony wouldn't be able to cope with the rejection. They make some damn stupid decisions, like the regional shenanigans. But I don't think they're that dumb.
