Sociologists say foreign-born blacks from majority-black countries are less psychologically handicapped by the stigma of race. Many arrive with higher levels of education and professional experience. And sociologists say they often encounter less discrimination.

"We've suffered so much that we're a bit weary and immigration seems like one more hurdle we will have to climb," said Dr. Austin, 59, who traces his ancestors back to slavery. "People are asking: 'Will I have to climb over these immigrants to get to my dream? Will my children have to climb?'

"These are very aggressive people who are coming here," said Dr. Austin, who is calling for a frank dialogue between native-born and foreign-born blacks. "I don't berate immigrants for that; they have given up a lot to get here. But we're going to be in competition with them. We have to be honest about it. That is one of the dividing lines."

Mr. Obama says such arguments do not reflect the views of black Americans who have joined forces over the years with Africans and people from the Caribbean to fight colonialism and poverty. He says black descendants of slaves share more similarities than differences with black immigrants and their children. He says his grandfather worked as a servant in Kenya and was described as a "house boy" by whites even when he was a middle-aged man.

"Some of the patterns of struggle and degradation that blacks here in the United States experienced aren't that different from the colonial experience in the Caribbean or the African continent," Mr. Obama said in an interview.

I'm sorry, but I still don't see how this applies to what I said. Where did black people from the suburbs complaing about their hard life shiz come from? Do you undertsand that most african immigrants are not poor? Do you have any idea how expensive it is to immigrate from Africa to America? We're talking thousands of dollars here. The good majority of them are well educated and are from well to do homes, just like the black kids from the suburbs that you mention. Fuck man, check it:

I have Africans in my family okay, I'm not pretending that they have anything so great. My uncle and I constantly discuss this mess. This is just the truth of the matter. It is very much a shame, and who has it worst, or who complains too much , is nowhere near the root of it. Which is what your post above seems to suggests. I disagree with most of this paragraph. Honestly, how many Black americans have you made an effort to be friends with, or discuss politics,economics, or current issues with? And for you to assume that Africans automatically have it harder that Black Americans is absurd. Have you seen black poverty? Yes, I grew up in middle-america but the interesting thing about Columbia SC, is that Million Dollar estates, and places that make section 8 housing look luxury are as close as 10 minutes apart. Aside from that I have/had friends and evne some family that aren't exactly well off. Its a whole entire thread, but I would argue that life and oppurtunity for many in the country's worst ghettos or poverty stricken areas is as bad as life in the slums of Africa. America is the land of oppurtunity but realistically that oppurtunity is not available to everyone. I know people who by 13 years already had no realistic option of making anything of themselves.

I've been friends with plenty of black Americans and even talk politics and economics with them. Most of them, after talking to me, end up agreeing with most of what I say. And I live right outside Detroit, so I'm far more familiar with the effects of poverty and inner-city life than most people here. I grew up every day hearing it on the news and seeing it whenever I went to the city, in Flint, Saginaw and Detroit. So it's not like I'm speaking from some Boulder, CO ranch about poverty here. I interact with it regularly. And I'm still gonna say that anyone who thinks they've got it as bad off here as they do in Africa is full of shit. I'm not even talking about opportunity. I'm talking about if you're walking down the street and someone grabs your daughter off the street and rapes her in front of you, cops are still gonna give a shit. You go talk to some of these fuckers from Ivory Coast and see what happens when someone wrongs them. You go talk to these people from fucking Rwanda, Somalia, Congo, Kenya, Mozambique, Angola, etc. Where these warlords hold sway over all and the only way you live is to starve. I HATE people who talk about driving drunk like it's something they do all the time, and they will never get in an accident EVER cause they are so fucking good at driving drunk and it doesnt affect them and driving drunk isnt a bad thing because you'll never actually hit anyone at all ever. It pisses me off the fuck off, and it hits way too close to home. My little cousin (3-years old) was almost killed because a drunk motherfucker on the highway, rear ended them going 45. Luckily she was in a car seat, in the back of the car. I'm not saying i'm against drinking, but it really does affect your driving skills and i wish more people would realize this
