Whoa was this previously announced? Looks awesome. Now I just need a Steam Deck so I don't have to double dip

I love that animation style they use since Sonic Mania, super well made and the artstyle is cute as hell!

all those different versions they are selling there tho, that's ridiculously stupid and wants me to boycott this right away tbh.

Sorry, what? They're locking all these features away behind DLC? It does make it sound like the MJ Sonic 3 music will be in, but only as paid/"Digital Deluxe" DLC.

Yeah, it was announced sometime last year, but we haven't had a lot of details other than the games included.

If the MJ music isn't in that "Classic Music" DLC it's false advertising.

This collection is a joke. 40$ for slightly enhanced versions of games you can buy for 5$ each. Then another 5$ for DLC and another 4$ for even more DLC and all of this for a franchise that was never good.

WTF with all these editions...

What The Fuck Wtf GIF

Also, when I saw the animations I was hoping for an Alex Kidd treatment, and was almost excited. The way it is I pass... I can play just fine on emulators.

How many times have they re-released these games?

I love Sonic but seems like Rockstar levels of re-hashing the same games.

Digital only LOL

So, there are two modes? Classic and Anniversary? The Classic has the usual lives system, but isn't in widescreen. But the Anniversary has a "coins" system to make things easier, and is in widescreen? So, in order to play the games in fully remastered widescreen, I have to play a mode that is watered down? Or am I missing something?

Sonic 3 hasn't been re-released since the XBLA version.

I'm excited, but also worried very about this "version table". Is this equivalent to Anthem "how toplay" table? What the fuck was that?

Also, wonder about those Additional music tracks from Mega Drive titles. I really hope they pick the prototype soundtrack for Sonic 3 Knuckles. That would make my day.

Also, I really really expect this Anniversary and Classic modes to be both Widescreen and take advantage of modern features. Because the classic mode with cropped window size lookslike bullshit to me.

fine

prefer mania 2 but ok
This....an absolutely pointless collection .....when there are other Sega titles they could have brought to the table, how about Virtua Fighter definitive collection whereby for the FIRST TIME EVER you get to play Virtua Fighter 3 on a modern console arcade perfect...or maybe even a new Shinobi game?

Hope you're right about this. I don't need, nor want, a dumbed down, yet better looking Anniversary mode just to get infinite "coin" lives with no game overs. Hopefully, both modes include the remastered versions.

You'd think they would release this as the same time as Sonic 2 the movie….
Day 1 finally now that Sonic 3and S&K

Next give us Mania 2 and Sonic Adventure 3

And they still have not said if these Anniversary editions are the Whitehead Mobile versions or not, still I may pick this up, Sonic 2 is legit my favorite game of all time

Like ffs Sega I was in if they were, but I want clarification, at least the TMNT Cowabunga collection looks leagues ahead

The DLC seems to just be grasping at straws BS.
Which is odd because 45$ for fully remastered for all classic Sonic games isn't the worst price.

There are screenshots of the secret Hidden Palace zone, it's in widescreen and the way the physics seem to be running, it's either the Taxman versions or some very very similar.

The whole DLC scheme and tiers for pre-orders and deluxe editions is a mess, they should've just charged $39,99 for this... Which would already be a lot.

Doubtful, it sounds like they added a hard mode in fact. Sonic games were always pretty easy. Maybe not Kirby easy, but easier than most.

I wouldn't be so sure of that.
Anniversary mode looks like exactly the kind of stupid thing they made with Sonic Colors Ultimate. I hope the classic version is unnafected.

3&K is done by Stealth/Headcannon

So it's in good hands.

Ah thats a must buy then, glad to see this is being handled fine, well aside from whatever the fuck the DLC table is, I'll be buying the Deluxe anyway

I think the coins are a new collectable, from the trailer. But who knows.

This is excellent news. Game is in good hands. It sounds like they used the work that was already done on the existing Christian Whitehead ports and had Simon port S3&K over to that framework.

Jesus Christ that tier list is worse than a fucking Ubisoft game, they've figured out how to squeeze nostalgia addicts for old ROMS to the max on this one.

Who is this guy? Shame about not being Whitehead.
He is Whitehead's co-developer on Mania and all the Sonic ports, co-lead of Sonic Megamix, creator of the Headcannon Engine, and one of the most accomplished Sonic ROM hackers in the game. Trust me, nothing to worry about with Stealth at the helm.
Maybe that article about Taxman vs Sonic Team was right after all.
I think the falling out was between Taxman and Stealth, rather than Taxman and Sega, but I guess it could be both.

He co-developed both Mania and the remasters of 1 and 2 with Taxman and is using Taxman's Retro Engine for Origins.

This is great news, so I'm happy about that aspect.
Its straight substitute the life counter. This either means losing a life it's meanless or the life system was revamped.
I remember this being the rumour way back when the Tails Save was introduced for Sonic Colours Ultimate. A way to remove any kind of challenge from the classic games for a collection. I mean, I know the games aren't ridiculously challenging or anything, but Iizuka spouted some bull about attracting new people to the classic games, wanting to make them more accessible, blah blah. At least keep the threat of a game over in there.

I'm bit worried because I don't know this guy, just taxman and his crew. And Retro Engine is now called Star engine, trademark from Taxman inself if I remember right.

Hope so. Gonna give him the benefit of the doubt.

The first thing that came to my mind was Anthem "how to play Anthem" list.
