Sonic Origins arrives June 23rd, 2022!

Looks great until you see the absolutely comical feature matrix. Even after rereading the OP three times that part looks like some mad late april fool's gag.

Again, Stealth was part of that crew. He was Taxman's right hand man on all of those projects.

It's just a bit suspicious hiring one member of the crew, not the hole team. And again, SEGA can't use the Taxman custom engine for this one, so this guy need to use something else.

They are using Taxman's custom engine, RSDK(v5U) which is the Mania branch.

Great collection of games, but they're up their fuckin ass with that pricing. I guess they're trying to capitalize on the sonic film sequel hype.....from a cold marketing and business perspective, I get it.

As a consumer? Lick my taint Sega.

My understanding is that there was friction between the two, so Sega could only get one of them in the divorce. I think they chose wisely, to be honest.

It sounds like they do own the code for those games, and that is what's being used. It might not be updated to the "latest version" or anything but they have what has already been used in Sega releases, and someone who knows how to use it.

My question is always the same when they do these remasters of the classic Sonic games and they never mention it or just leave it out entirely.

Is it included?
Did they fix the slowdown in the Sonic 2 Multiplayer?
Is it online?

They fixed this issue in Sonic Jam on the Saturn and since then it's being an issue in later ports.

Sonic 2's multiplayer is one of my favorite 16 bit multiplayer experience if you play it with your own rules. i.e. When one person finishes the race on time, the other player cannot reverse and collect all the item boxes, points and coins etc.

Sonic Mania did a terrific job of reviving this game.

I was going to preorder, but this will probably get really cheap really fast so I'll just wait. The $40 pricetag is probably just to lure hardcore fans in and make a quick profit.

Honestly, exiating Sonic 3 AIR, this is bullshit. I was really hoping for some visual enhacements or HD versions, but we only got things nobody asked for.

I' ll bite tho.

I guess that's cool.

The thing that throws me off is them mentioning it being "remastered", how so? Resolution support I guess? It literally looks exactly the same to me, lmao.

Widescreen is a big addition that sets it apart from the million other Sonic Collections.
Worth having it for that alone.
Well done Sega.

Show me dat preorder button for physical release! I am so much more excited for these kind of releases than most of the samey AAA offerings.

It's unbelievable all the oldschool goodness I am excited for and have on preorder:

1. TMNT Cowabunga Collection
2. Snowbros Special
3. Capcom Fighting Collection
4. Pocky & Rocky Reshrined
5. Pacman Museum +
6. Cotton Fantasy

We aren't even quite through half the year and that is quite the list for physical releases.

The industry is a bad dog, if you keep rewarding it for shitting on the rug and making you pay for it, it'll never stop.

The trailer is great, but that Pre-order chart has me ready to back out. I do not really like Sonic games but they have good music.

I never had sonic 3, I didn't realize Sonic & Knuckles wasn't a full original title. Kinda blowing my mind right now.
Sonic & Knuckles was basically a "standalone DLC" of its day. Like Spider-Man Miles Morales or something. It could be played standalone or you could combine the carts and they would play like one big supercut.

That said I do hope there is the option to play just Sonic 3 because it's better and I don't need a longer worse version.

Sonic 3 and Knuckles is Sonic 3 + S&K combined so its there. Hell, in the trailer theyre clearly playing on mushroom hill in one scene
I thought it looked like the start of S&K but I never had/played Sonic 3 so I didn't know if it was from that title and just looked familiar.

I am just now learning that Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles were originally intended to be the same game.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles is the original Sonic the Hedgehog 3 the developers intended to release but time constraints by Sega resulted in this game being split into two.

I was so hyped for this but the announcement left me so unsatisfied that I'm now feeling I really don't need this, especially at that price. I'll probably get it when it's under $20

The fun part is that, as a Canadian, I would get to spend almost $60 for the base game, or $70 for the deluxe. For a digital only game. Amazing. Such blessings from SEGA.

Sonic 3 & Knuckles addition is great and all but things like the Sonic 3 Complete mod And Sonic 3 A.I.R. have made the official versions obsolete.

For instance, falling from Flying Battery after breaking a door and landing on Ice Cap while snowboarding on said broken door (instead of a random board out of nowhere) is the coolest thing i saw in a Sonic game and it makes much more sense (that was also the original level order apparently so it's not a completely fan-made fantasy). I can't go back to the official version after that.

Also, do we know if they will keep the original music in Sonic 3 & Knuckles?

I'm assuming it's possible that Stealth and co. re-introduced the zone order to have this set up properly in this version. Not 100% sure on that, but it's definitely possible.

I love you Sega but seriously fuck off with these endless Sonic re-releases.

Look to Sonic 2 HD if you insist in churning them out. That's what you call a remaster people will want to buy.

+ They're finally using the mobile versions of Sonic 1 and 2 which were properly done by Taxman and Stealth
+ Sonic 3 & Knuckles has now been finished and is based on the original concept code Taxman and Stealth teased years ago
+ New animated cutscenes from the same people who did the Mania ones to bridge the games

- The price, what the hell, three of these can be had on mobile for under £8
- The DLC, again, at least justify the price by including all that content right away
- Digital Only? Considering how long these games have been around I doubt there's much that requires patching after release, a physical for these should've been a must!
- Denuvo on PC, it's a damn collection of Classic Sonic games, why does it need Denuvo???

That will also never release so... They've been working on that for 15 years and haven't even finished the third stage.

Will probably get this when it's on sale, I own too many Sonic collections as it is but this one does look nice.

If they don't have the original Sonic 3 music then that's a tragedy, if they do but it's locked behind DLC that's even worse. Otherwise, looks great. Extremely overpriced though, this whole thing should be $20 tops imo.

That's what I'm waiting on. Sonic 3 and Knuckles has some of the best music from any video game. Also, you have to pay for the additional music from the older consoles.

We need a price list of all the tiers. There is no way this should cost more than £25.

Just saw the price list. £33 for the standard edition and £37 for the deluxe edition. Jesus! And you have to pay £3 for the classic music.

Some of these companies are scummy as hell.

They are selling this like it's a full blown 2D remake in anime style, hilarious
