Silent Hill F Releases September 25, 2025 | State of Play 2025

Pretty much all of Silent Hill's characters are pretty ordinary too. Heather was also a teenager, and James, given his mental condition over the months preceding him arriving at the town, probably wasn't in good physical condition himself.

But given the nature of the Otherworld, I don't think the actual physical capabilities of the characters is meant to be that relevant a factor when they're fighting monsters even with hand weapons. Besides, getting hit with something like a lead pipe is still going to hurt like shit even if it's a 14 year old girl hitting you with it.
In many cases characters aren't contending with physical battles but internal battles with themselves most of the events that happen across all games heavily relates to the protagonist and is their pain, resentment, suffering and suppression of horrific events made manifest through the Supernatural Entity that is Silent Hill.

It's part of why Silent Hill is much more complex then Resident Evil ever was where it's just person/corporation made thing and thing was bad and it got worse.

Game looks great and I'm getting horror vibes of the original SH games alongside Fatal Frame with a little Dead Space.

Not sure it's worth $70 though. But Clair Obscur has spoiled me. So we will see. It already has more promise then SH2R.

I said elsewhere, but this is probably the closest we'll come to a modern Fatal Frame game.

Just that this one is in aan SH wrapper and without camera mechanics. The characters and settings remind me a lot of the early Fatal Frame games.
My sisters likes FF more, I've only enjoyed the scenes though.

I kind of agree, combat with hiccups was not needed.

These slowdowns are amazing. I love when games do that. Gives in so much weight!

Honestly fatal frame looked way scarier than this. This looks like standard fare survival horror hit the zombie with a golf club.

It's weird enough seeing this little girl beating up monsters with a large pipe...is she also going to wielding firearms as well? :messenger_dizzy:

Is it just me or does the girl's face look totally different between the in-game graphics and the promotional artwork? Like, there is a huge gap in prettiness.

well, I guess they have to sell it.

My biggest curiosity is how the game is structured.

I'm sure it's not open world-ish, but I'm curious to see if they implemented a game flow maybe more like what they did with Downpour with side areas and stories to explore; some really great stuff was hidden in the corners of that games world.

This looks suitably spooky and unsettling. I'll be keeping an eye on this for sure.

Silent Hill 2 remake was excellent, and I gotta figure there is some developmental osmosis between that and this after seeing how successful SH2R was.

Two big Silent Hill releases in less than 12 months, this is great. I'm definitely keeping this game on my radar, but I'll wait for impressions before making any purchases.

i for one am glad they are taking this silent hill revival seriously and it doesnt look like some janky cartoon like that contra game

I'm just happy we are getting another silent hill. It defo looks more project zero ( I like that) and I agree the enemies look kinda samey but it's survival horror and it's releasing this year which is amazing.

I'm interested in the japan setting too, its so different from what we expect from silent hill.

Tormented souls island that supermassive game is coming the week after too so I'm looking forward to a survival horror filled late sep/October

These days? Witcher 3's one of the most beloved games of all time despite its combat being jank incarnate.
Most opinions about imperfections, specifically RPGs, are based on some who have dreamed about something else they think it's perfect, but fortunately, doesn't work in the real world.

I am not a fan of how Japanese sounds when teens are being dramatic and screaming. It's one of the reasons I can't stand anime. I hope this has a good English dub. Am I alone there? lol

It's crazy that we're getting a Silent Hill and a Metal Gear game this year on top of the Suikoden remasters. Hopefully they sell well because they look good.

for me silent hill is at it's best when it's slow, atmospheric, gradual descent into nightmare. This feels a lot more like Resident Evil 4 which by any logic should not be a bad thing for most games to compare with, as it's a masterpiece.. but for Silent Hill? no...

I remain optimistic and will most certainly play it, it looks good, just hope it doesnt stray too far into the action sphere. I don't want to be blasting hoardes of japanese nurses with machine guns later in the game.

Unreal Engine is doing well on character models these days (unless devs screw up poorly), but yeah, that is definitely nicely done compared to some others.

Yeah I also have zero issues with the histrop. All hit reaction is a blend multiple techniques (jitter, cam shake, mesh swapping, all kinds of VFX) so I guess the balance feels off for some people.

All fine but why do we have to play as a girl....?😩
I hate it when the MC is a girl... I thought the woke times are over. Give me back my straight/white/male main characters as I like to immerse myself into the games I play!

So...you hate it in Silent Hill 3, Resident Evil 3, Resident Evil: Code Veronica, Haunting Ground, every single Parasite Eve game, Dino Crisis, every single Fatal Frame game, Alien Isolation, every single Clock Tower game, Crow Country, most of Puppet Combo games, Tormented Souls, you only play RE1 and 2 and their remakes with Chris and Leon, and etcetera. I don't even count horror genres from other mediums that use a lot of female protagonists like slasher movies. So you can't stand a huge part of horror genre for a long time before any tiny spot of wokeness.

Think it's just a troll post or account because no one is that stupid lol.

I actually played and hate it in all the games you've mentioned, since Resident Evil 3 in 1999! 😅
BUT: I got used to it! TLOU2 is my favorite game of all time, so what can I do?! 🤷🏻‍♂️
As I'm a (not so straight) man, I actually prefer to play as male characters WHEN there is a choice.
But my post was also meant rather sarcastically because I somehow have the feeling that for a few years now, the number of games with female protagonists is increasing. And I like my Nathan Drakes and Leon Kennedys and Joel Millers!
And in addition, I think young japanese girls in school uniforms don't have the same effect on me as they do on you other guys! 😉😜

There is no way in hell I'm playing this in english, Japanese setting and with Japanese characters.....yeah not gonna happen.

And the fact all trailers so far have Japanese voice tells me thats how it meant to be played.

Surprised at the general positvity. To me it didn't look like a Silent Hill at all. If it wasn't titled as so I would not think it has any relation to the franchise. And everything I saw was mediocre IMO. Then again, SH2 remake was initially dissappointing as well but ended up being a masterpiece. Hopefully it will be the same here.

looks good but that was a lot of repetitive pipe-on-twitchy-mannequin action

might lose its spook factor pretty fast for me

Nah, seems alright if it's the general enemy fodder like usual fashion. I love it because it's genuinely creepy in all respect. Sucker for that stiff puppet style movement.
