Sonic Rush - IGN review

Maybe Phoenix Wright 80, with actually good writing and non-superlimited gameplay choices will be my thing. I love the concept, just not the execution. So I'm sure they'll get it right for me eventually.

What didn't you like about the writing? The general plot or the dialogue? I thought the plots were a little wonky but the dialogue is some of the best I've seen in any JP > EN localization.

Craig made an error in his review though. Sonic Team definitely made this game, not Dimps.

Are you sure?

I read that and thought what the fuck, all I've been hearing since this game was announced was that this was SONIC TEAM and NOT Dimps. I don't like the Advance games. :\

Well, Steve from Gamerz-Edge says that their name appears no-where in the game and not one of the official websites mention Dimps in the copyright sections. Sonic Team also takes credit for the game on their site, so it's safe to assume Craig only made his assumption because they did the Sonic Advance games.

How does the 2D/3D combination work, from a technical standpoint? Does the game only run at 30fps due to the need to display 3D elements on both screens, or does it work like the GBA Tony Hawk games, which scrolled the levels at 60fps and rendered the polygonal characters at 30?

I like the music, but then again I've liked all the goofy Sega Sonic songs.
"Follow me! Set me free! Trust me and we can ESCAPE FROM THE CITY!..." *ahem*

So now I have 3 games on my list to buy, MK, TH and now Sonic. Great and I was trying to save for the holidays.

Hell yes. You can knock the 3D Sonics for a lot of reasons, but music isn't one of them, especially Sonic Adventrue 2, which has one of the best Sonic soundtracks ever (2nd only to Sonic 3 & Knuckles, in my opinion). All the Sonic stages, Shadow stages, boss themes, and ending stage themes are great. And Crush 45 kicks ass. While the rapping was corny in the Knuckles stages, the instrumentals ruled.

I'm so getting this game, I been hearing the samples on the main site non-stop this is some good stuff.

Im sure those two games will have a fun time sitting on the shelf at Best Buy talking about politics while Im at home playing the other games.

:)

SA1 - Speed Highway. The only rush of adrenaline you need.

Not that I know the answer to this question, but it's not necessarily either. It could be 60 fps on both screens, just with each necessarily displaying less complicated 3D than a game that focuses on one screen at a time. Or they could both be 15 (theoretically; obviously I know I'd have read it in bold a lot by now were it the case).

Don't listen to Demi. He already bought his copy.

He just doesn't like it when other gamers buy the games he likes. Look at his obsession with Advent Rising. He can pimp it because no one wants it.
Advent Rising but not this? For shame.

Same even though I really want to pick up this game. Mario Kart and Tony (if I ever get it) take precedence though.

No. No, this is Sonic's true return to form. You can pick up THAS any day. This is history man, history.

I think I'll have to get all 3 ;_; THAS looked great from the gameplay presentation and they put in just about every feature in the world. I think it could be the best TH in a while and also beome the second best selling sku out of the AW/AS bunch.

Going to get Sonic definately, whenever they get around to release it here.

I missed the euro release date for this, anyone?

So if I get a DS this holiday, would this be a good list?

Mario Kart DS Racing; Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow; Sonic Rush; Advance Wars: Dual Strike; Meteos

Just add Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and your all set. Oh and NOMs perview really sold me, the Rush meter or whatever its called sounds awesome, as well as the fact that we finally have a Sonic game which you play at 100mph all the way through, rather than it continually going into ever more plodding platform territory as you progress.

I'd get Kirby ahead of Meteos personally.

You could get Fire Emblem I suppose, but I hear people have been having trouble jamming it in the DS slot.

thanks for the advice guys. When you say Fire Emblem, do you mean Sacred Stones since I thought Path of Radiance is on GC? The only doubt I have for DS now is that Reggie's comments make it sounds like a redesign is coming soon.

Actually, that happened in Sonic Advance 2, and that [IMO] sucked. Sonic Rush still has these elements, but the game looks like it plays MUCH more like the older games, levels like Chemical Plant Zone, Flying Battery or Ice Cap Zone. SAdv2 and 3's levels were more like a huge set of floating platforms. You never really had a real "bottom of the level", instead having a shitload of bottomless pits. Rush looks to fix this. Getting Chaos Emeralds in 2 was a complete pain in the arse. You had to get 7 emblems with EVERY character for EVERY level. Was not fun at ALL.

Advance 3, other than having most of these problems, was a little better, level wise. But fucked things up by the horribly lame, useless buddy system. Your buddy never followed you, because the follow code was just so rotten, they'd never catch up to you. Plus, some matches just made it more of a chore to play through. [Knuckles + Tails for instance]. No emblems this time, but you had to collect 7 Chao, in any order on every stage, and THEN find a Key, to then find the special spring, to then get to the special stage.

Also, the Boss Battles shown [Dragon Head-Slamming + Dung-Beetle beating] >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Any bosses in the Sonic Advance Series.

I have no idea how you get into Special Stages in Sonic Rush, anyone able to enlighten me? I pray for the day where it goes back to being something simple, like finding hidden rings throughout the level.

God damn, THANK YOU.

It wasn't fucking Sonic. The stages FORCED you through it, without hardly any ability to stop and explore, thanks to the design of the stages. Every single stage felt like you were high in the air on floating platforms.

And finding those 7 fucking emblems to get into a bonus stage in Sonic Advance 2? Annoyingly impossible. Not a good kind of difficulty either, just stupid.

Yes, but add phoenix wright and Mario&Luigi2 :)

So what's the story with all you hardcore Sega-Sonic fans who refuse to buy or enjoy anything Nintendo DS? Are you going to skip on the best sonic game since the 16-bit days with music done by the JSR composer? The DS software list is hot right now and it will only get better between now and Febuary which is when I plan to get one that is if I don't crack this month. When will the SNKvsCapcom Card Battle game come out? Thats the one I want the most.

...ermm...as I think has already be pointed out (or maybe it was in the Mario Kart topic), IGN didn't give a single DS game a 9.0+ until like 7 months into the system's life.

I'm hoping it ends up an 86.4% game personally.
