yep! 2!

Has there been any major updates to that game lately, Kokonoe? I wouldn't mind playing it with you again sometime.

They added a new area and then they're going to add Seabed soon. Right now is the Halloween event! Oh! and items are translated now.

Yes, bad times with Lost World 3DS. It does a lot of stuff I can't stand. Sonic feels too slippery. The level design isn't that great. Boosters and springs are everywhere.

And the special stages are fucking garbage.

Is the 3DS version different from the Wii U one?
The Acts are differently designed. I posted other differences in the OP of the OT:

[Nintendo 3DS version]

  • There are Colour Powers exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS version such as Red Burst, Ivory Lightning, and Grey Quake.
  • This version includes exclusive Special Stages. You can tilt your 3DS to navigate them to retrieve the Chaos Emeralds. They are somewhat modeled after Blue Sphere from S3&K.
  • You can create and customize radio-controlled gadgets to help Sonic through levels.
  • You can race against friends (4-player) through local and online modes.
  • Share your gadgets between the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS versions.

In the Nintendo 3DS version, Sonic can run up walls, somersault attack, and run along walls. Click any picture above the picture of the Special Stage to see these skills in action.

Whatever the hell happened to Dimps these days? They got things right with Pocket Adventure, Advance 1, Rush Adventure and Colors DS. When they finally seem to get things, they ended up getting bad again. What happened?! Is it the budget or different staff or the lack of care?!

oh shit!

I'll reinstall the game. Hopefully I'll be able to play it by tomorrow!

Yep! Phantasy Star Online 2! It's Japan only but you can play on their servers and it's free to play. So awesome. ヽ(*・ω・)ノ

But... it's all already in English. Why not bring it over? Or are you running a mod?

It's fan translated. There's no official English version. :(

Have the 3DS/DS versions of Sonic games ever been as good or better than their console counterpart?

Colors DS was about the only one that's good, but I would say the Wii version is much better. But the DS version is good enough on its own merit, I can see some preferring it over the console version.

Generations 3DS was very rushed, it had some good moments and can be fun if you overlook the fact half of the levels are copy pasted. It's really the Dreamcast era and the rival "fights" that are really bad in that version.

Have no opinion on LW 3DS for obvious reasons, but I think I'm going to be skipping that one because I had enough of bad Dimps games.

The fans completely translated the game is why. SEGA also has the game translated by they fear the game won't be profitable in the west. It's a real long story, but SEGA screwed up with not advertising or marketing the Phantasy Star games and treating their customers like crap, the western ones. Even if they release the game outside of Japan, it's still better to play on the Japanese servers since it'll be more up to date and just be better overall.

Phantasy Star Universe was it at it's worse. We were 3 years behind them over here. lol

I actually liked Colors for DS more personally. Sonic Advance 1 is the TRUE Sonic 4 for me. lol

I find it interesting how Sonic Advance 1's physics are very close to the Genesis games, while Sonic 4's physics is pretty much Rush's.

Interesting enough, Sonic Generations 3DS's physics for Classic Sonic was a lot closer to the genesis physics than 4 was. I wonder if Sonic 4 was intended to be something else halfway through development?

SEGA tries to reinvent the wheel too much is what I think it is. They should just stick with someone for a while so they can have a foundation.

Too busy secretly/not-so-secretly working on everything?

Or wait, am I thinking of TOSE?

I'm tired of playing bad games, you guys.

Wasn't it supposed to be a mobile game?
I feel the same way too. Sonic Rush drained me dead, Rush Adventure revived me.

Yes.

Yeah, I think SEGA should let Dimps continue making boost-based games. They really got something good with Rush Adventure and Colors DS. They should continue that.

And I think they should give Dimps a higher budget and focus on making original Sonic titles as oppose to lesser versions of Console games. Rush Adventure is hella original and fun, but this isn't to say Colors DS was bad or anything, that one was also fun, but I feel it'd probably benefit more if it wasn't a console spinoff.

Sonic 4 was probably "Sonic The Portable" at some point during development. This ferris wheel in Casino Street's background shows it:

So basically, it was another Type 0 situation.

You only ever bring this on yourself. Go get Typing of the Dead or something that's actually fun.

(or there's Path of Exile if you want to be lost forever to the siren call of character building)

Maybe it's because I need to play more, but so far I just cannot get into PoE. And I really should since I loved Diablo 1 and 2 and PoE is basically a Diablo 2 skin from what I've played.

It takes a while to really pick up for a couple reasons. The first being that the early game was built years ago and that's reflected in its lack of complexity; Act 3 is a whole different world by comparison. The second is that it's sort of got Secret Rings syndrome and characters feel very sluggish and weak at first. This completely changes once you've got enough stat points to specialize to some significant degree and especially once you start getting your hands on support gems.

Right now I'm playing a melee character who primarily does two things:
1. Jumps around like the Hulk, thanks to having something like 70% +attack speed.
2. Detonates entire rooms of monsters simultaneously.

The second requires a little elaboration. My main attack causes the target to explode violently for 25% of its max life if it dies. This is pretty neat, especially with a significant amount of increased aoe radius nodes. Then there's the support gem that makes melee attacks hit everything around the target, which is also considered an aoe mechanic.

You've never seen so many gibs.

Another old favorite was the frost arrow that did splash damage behind the target, fired three projectiles at once in a cone, and was guaranteed to pierce. The skill was called Ice Shot, but I preferred the name Shotgun Ice.

It isn't a graceful game, but it has beautiful, beautiful systems design.

The prevailing rumor is that Sonic Team and/or Dimps was making a Sonic game for the iPhone and Sega of America decided to get behind it and push it as Sonic the Hedgehog 4

Thanks. I guess I'll have to give it another 5 or 6 hours before it really gets going, then.

You dont have a Wii U, or were you just not trying to get console involved due to studying?

Sonic can run up walls, somersault attack, and run along walls.

He can do that in the console version too...well aside from the somersault. He does have a triple bounce jump and homing kick attack.

Think the end result of classic Sonic roundhouse kicking Metal in Generations.

Huh, really? I've had a pretty good time with it. It does more interesting stuff with the parkour, in my opinion. Sonic is definitely more slippery in the 3DS version, but I also quite like his speed.

Special Stages are garbage, though.

Overall I'm having a good time with both games. Maybe my opinion will change once I put more time into the Wii U version. I was out of the country last week so I've put way more time into the 3DS one

so far lost worlds is three things to me:

1. crazyass sonic game with gravity stuff (in 3d and 2d, but it only really affects stuff in 3d)
2. sonic game with new parkour elements
3. remnants of a scrapped sonic colors sequel

the first one tries to be the star, but it winds up handing duties off to the second one until the third one occasionally shows itself.

Man, those Lost World sales do not make for a pretty sight. Weird how Sonic has always been such a poor franchise in Japan.
