This poll is fraudulent. How did Altitude Limit earn anything?

And Sky Canyon got votes too?! None of you can ever complain about Dimps making Sonic games again!

I see what they want...long levels with countless death pits. They deserve gotta go fast sequences too!

And laser pits.

And boosters that send you into spikes/enemies/certain death.

And death pits.

And one hit death spots.

And more death pits.

Why did they make S3&K's special stages so damn punishing?
Because they were the closest to being good bonus stages so they had to bugger it up somehow.
Hyper Emeralds are a chore for me, each stage is carefully designed that making one screw up is highly likely to equal failure.
And then you can't just enter the golden ring and get straight to business, you have the extra process in the emerald chamber just because.

This brings up a good question, though...

Are you into playing Sonic for the exploration aspect? I used to be like that because I'd search every nook and cranny so I could find almost every ring in each Act/Zone, or find every special stage ring in S3&K.

Or are you into Time Attacking and beating times or going as fast as you could and speedrunning the game?

It's hard to say which one I like more now. I think it's half and half for me.
I never really thought about it, I just sort of play the game, I enjoy finding the hidden rings but then regret flying into them.
I tend to find a new path each run, oh so fun.

I love how Sky Canyon is literally impossible to beat unless you learn about the trick system that's only mentioned in the manual.

About to start a refresher playthrough of Sonic Adventure, since I've been talking about it a lot lately what with Adventure 2 fresh in my mind. I'm sure all the jank will come rushing back like a tsunami of bad memories, but I still feel like I'll appreciate it more than SA2.

edit: YOU KNOW NOTHING, FOOL

Crystal Egg could work as a boss level I guess.
Eh, but the boss level had a completely different design. It's more Acts 1 & 2 I'm infatuated with.

It was kind of like the Carnival Night barrel moment of Advance 2. So many people got stuck at that one point that it became widely known in the Sonic fandom - and the solution simple enough that it floated around alongside it. I knew about the R trigger trick method before I got the game, too.

Speaking of Generations mods... it's been just over a year since the game was released. Has anyone made a mod with Genesis perfect physics/gameplay for Classic Sonic?

IIRC, someone told me that someone attempted to do that but it didn't work out well because the level design was not made for the genesis physics in mind.

I think this is what you're talking about.

A collection of Sonic Generations mod that adjusts the physics of the game to better reflect the games the two Sonics are based on, provides a custom ENBSeries for Generations, and alters other miscellaneous gameplay aspects. Classic Sonic now feels more like he did in Sonic 1-Sonic and Knuckles, and Modern Sonic controls are now a more even blend of Sonic Adventure, Sonic Unleashed/Generations and Sonic Colors.

Come to think of it there was also a mod that changed out Modern Sonic's slide kick for more proper rolling and tweaked the physics to reflect that. I can't remember if it's this mod or something else, though.

So the Sonic The Fighters Achievements are now out there!

http://exophase.com/game/sonic-the-fighters-xbox/achievements/

As with Virtua Fighter 2 and Fighting Vipers, they've made the achievements stupidly easy, even to a point of being a bit lame.

Effectively they want you to play the single player mode through once, and for the rest they use achievements to teach you secret little things in the game. Like in VF2 the achievement is for "Play Ranking Mode in Arcade Mode (hold down P+K+D+START during Attract Mode)" or "Use Dural in Arcade Mode or Offline Versus (In Ver.2.1 hold START when selecting a character)"

So on Sonic's side it's just to finish the game and do some simple things like break a barrier or don't take damage for a round, but it also has:

I bet Schala can't wait to try that Neo Metal Sonic mod.
A WORK OF ART.

Oh, since people are usually interested, I'll cross-post this from the Whatcha Been Playin' thread:

Tales of Xillia 2 (PS3)

Tales of Xillia 2 is an interesting game. Narrative-wise, it’s more emotionally-driven than other Tales games, and as a result is better than its predecessor (tbh, I feel like it’s one of the better-written Tales games, though that’s not saying much in a series where the narrative is never one of its strongest suits and the narratives generally fall off a cliff in the third act). I’m having fun with it so far. And the Ufotable animation, once again, is to die for. I wish Tales would just use them from now on. Production IG is good and all, but man Ufotable is so much better and is preferred. The Arousal Orb system (just think of Abyss’s Capacity Core system) feels better than the Lilial Orb because you have more customization options open to you, but it wasn’t executed as well (because you’re led to believe that you’re learning things from the orbs, when in reality you’re just equipping elemental amplifiers to learn new stuff). Character episodes are a good addition, and hey man, I like Jude in this game. He’s a bro.

What I don’t like, though, is Ludger’s silence. You can tell that he should be saying things in the middle of cutscenes rather than grunting or saying “mmm, uh, ugh” and other stuff like that, and he makes a move to do so, but he doesn’t. And it’s limiting to his character. They wanted to make the player step into his shoes but it’s not exactly working because Ludger genuinely seems to have his own identity and personality. You just want the guy to talk more but he can’t by design.

Xillia 1 at least had insta-party swap once you got more than 4 characters. This meant that if you pressed R3 that you can swap bench party members into battle with other party members (similar to Final Fantasy X). In Xillia 2, though, once you leave a town, your party members are fixed and you can only use those party members in-battle. This leads to little flexibility in terms of swapping members to take advantage of their various strengths in battle like you could in Xillia 1. For someone like myself, who regularly swapped party members or switched between characters constantly mid-battle, this gets very irritating.

I haven’t gotten completely used to Ludger yet in terms of his fighting style because learning him is like learning three characters in one character. So he has a variety of Artes for each weapon, different animation lengths, an animation length for swapping weapons on the fly, etc. Jude is much slower than his Xillia 1 version, and I think that’s because they wanted to balance the game a little more (because you could definitely solo Xillia 1 with Jude if you really wanted to). I haven’t used a lot of the other characters manually yet (well, I haven’t played the game much this week since getting it on Monday, so…).

But I’m having fun. Lots of improvements in this game over the last game (more Link Artes!). And uh, this game has a screenshot option. Isn’t it cool?

I played more of it last night and I still feel the same. Who knows, it might be my favourite Tales of the generation next to Narikiri Dungeon X and Graces f.

You could always import when it gets cheaper and wing it with a wiki. I'm pretty sure a lot of people did that with Xillia. The only thing is that you might not get a lot out of the story. Xillia 2 might be harder, though, because there's lotsa text to keep up with (ex: getting quests from the quest screen, selecting options, etc.).

That girl has thigh highs. I want to play it now.

*is wearing her thigh highs right now*
You should see Milla. She has one thigh-high on. I could take a shot of it, lol.

Also, I'd like to add that there's finally eye candy in the men department. <3 dudes with glasses, and I've added glasses to Ludger's look because that's what his original design had. :D

Back on-topic--those Sonic the Fighters achievements look so darn cute! Can't wait for it, and I'm surprised they've included Honey the Cat.

So darn cute.

So, is All-Stars Racing Transformed for sure delayed or is it coming out soon? And is there Vita footage for it yet? I fear lag.

Trying to find games for a Top 10 GotY this year + honourable mentions.

Do I... do I put Sonic 4: Episode 2 somewhere on there? I haven't played a lot of games I'd consider Top 3 GotY material this year. This year was completely weird.

How many Sonic games did we get this year, two? I honestly can't remember. :x

Sonic 4 Ep 2 will be nowhere near my GOTY list I assure you of that, I did play a couple of stages the other day to refresh my memory and it's just sort of "there", the new addition of Tails actually hinders more than it helps and they managed to make the bosses even more grating for the most part, everything else is slightly improved but that's just not enough.
It's probably better than Generations 3DS though as a random comparison.

This years a weird one, I don't feel that any particular game was that strong to truly take my GOTY crown, i've got two games at the top and then a ton all scrapping for the next eight positions.
Then i've got to take into account games yet to be released, trimming this one down is going to take more work than usual.

This year is weak and no, Sonic 4 Ep 2 doesn't belong in any GOTY list. 5.5/10 game at best.

I first played the game a few months ago but only beaten the first zone and thought "This is actually kind of good"

...then I played the rest of the game a few weeks ago and I can easily say it's almost as bad as Episode 1 due to the WORSE level design (in fact White Park Act 3 is the worst 2D Sonic level I've ever played), and irritating boss fights with long cutscenes. Seriously, Episode 2 was a huge improvement in so many other aspects but they managed to make the more important ones (physics aside) worse.

And yes, you did hear me saying White Park Act 3 being the worst 2D Sonic level. No hyperbole, it makes Altitude Limit blush. If it weren't for those damn walruses.......

A whole lot of mediocre games this year.

And am I one of the few who didn't hate the level design of Episode 1? Or just hate it in general because I had fun with it.

The levels in Episode 1 were no Sky Canyon/Altitude Limit but I thought they were all annoying for different reasons.

Splash Hill had too many moments where you fly off a ramp and get hit by a row of Bubbles with little time to react. It gets me every time. It was an okay stage though... kind of bland though.

Casino Street was decent up until the last half of Act 2 with those annoying flipping card platforms. And then Act 3... oh god those cannons. Leap of faith is not good design, Dimps.

Lost Labyrinth I didn't mind this zone until the torch puzzles and that really ridiculous rotating tiny water room. Arghhhh.

And Mad Gear... well, I wasn't a fan of Metropolis to begin with. And to top it off they added that annoying crushing wall in Mad Gear Act 3...

I actually replayed the game last month in attempt to get all achievements but I kind of ragequit on the 4th or 5th special stage.

I think I dislike the level aesthetics in Episode 1 more than anything else. I really dislike how that game looks overall. Also, Dimps loves pits pits everywhere.

I will never ever understand why they gave you so little time to get through the walrus parts, or even a way to get through the ice with a Team Attack. Now that would have made sense.

It's probably better than Generations 3DS though as a random comparison.
I have to agree with that. If I go back to it at the end of the year to see if it's even worth an honourable mention. I'm pretty sure I'll feel the same. It looks prettier, and team attacks--once you get used to using them--are beneficial for speedrunning/cheaping out on a level.

I dunno what I wanna put on my list. There're still things coming out, but my issue is that I've played a lot of stuff that I'd put as honourable mentions or in the bottom seven. A lot of what I've played isn't really Top 3 material.

Man I hope ASR:T is good.

Is anyone here getting the Wii U version of All Stars Racing? I wouldn't mind racing against you guys when the Wii U comes out. :>

I'm gonna play through Episode 1 again to see your complaints...

Splash Hill: I kinda see your point, they got me the first time but I adjusted to that gimmick. Sonic moves so slow here that I can adjust pretty quickly. Man they really shouldn't have added the homing attack in this...he moves to slow for it to work well. Boring Level

Casino Street: I make no apologies but I love this level. It's so pretty.

Is it just me or are these special stages stupid easy? It took me just a minute or two but I figured out how easy they can be to complete.

Splash Hill is probably the best designed level in the game but that isn't saying much.

Casino Street does look pretty. Well... at least the background. Not a huge fan of the foreground, it looks really grainy and weird. If it makes you feel any better, I did enjoy that level in Episode Metal as it was the only decent stage. :lol

I find the special stages hard, but it's mainly because I'm not very good with rotation controls... it's really frustrating and I sometimes get dizzy because of the extreme smooth rotation. They'd been better off if they had it so you control Sonic instead. It just feels extremely awkward otherwise.
