Sony's rolled out an update for the PS Store which allows you to write and submit full-length reviews.

Only accessible on the web-based storefront for now, the new feature has been in testing for quite some time, but is now available to everyone.

It allows you to submit a 4,000-character review to go with your rating, which has been available for a while.

The feature enables you to include a title for your review as well as a full write-up, similar to Steam. You can even mark if it includes spoilers.

Fans visiting a game's particular product page can then see what rating you awarded it, which version of the title you bought, and what you thought about it. Only those who own a game digitally can submit a review.

It'll be interesting to see if these reviews then get added to the console-based storefront as well. Obviously, the user reviews on Steam are a big feature and can genuinely help you decide whether a game is for you.

I could see Sony banning you if you write up some bull shit. So I'd be careful to not dump too hard on a game…

My guess is they will expect people to use their phone and do it through the app. They seem to be creating more and more reasons to use the app which makes sense. These companies love giving you a reason to install an app on your phone.
 
This is a welcome feature. I'm surprised at how long it's taken Sony to offer it, but I'm glad that they finally came around to it.

It seems that composing reviews can only be done from a PC. I hope that they will at least allow the reviews to be viewable from the game consoles themselves.

That would be a good addition. It would also be nice if a user could rate whether they felt a review was helpful. Users who frequently post helpful reviews could then have their reviews promoted for higher visibility.
 
I'm glad this is happening, but the usefulness of this feature will solely depend on their moderation.

If a user can't leave a 1/5 star review because the game has technical problems, might as well throw the feature in the trash.

You can rate 1/5 already, they probably will moderate if you are too much aggressive with your review.

I figured you could rate something 1/5, I'm just wondering how much a consumer can trash a game with their description of that 1/5 before it gets moderated out.

I'm fine if the person gets dropped if they threaten the company, drops incendiary words incoherently, or weirder trolling...but I just want the equivalent of a "fix yer shit lazy dev" reviews to still be allowed because it's coming from a pissed off consumer who wasted $70 on games that do come out broken. Especially so that review can warn other people not to waste their money.

Oh wow are we in 21st century already?

Not going to use it, going to be heavily moderated for sure and wouldn't want to have my account banned for something that someone finds offensive.

If only they put the option to buy the game on the review itself, and every time somebody bought a game directly from your review it gave you $1 PSStore credit or something

They should really add it to the app and the ratings, but yeah writing a review using a controller is gonna be one or two liners from me.

I swear sony taking forever to rollout basic features.

It's not working yet, right? I've tried to post a review and keep getting an unknown error (and I didn't use any 'dangerous' words ;)).

It should be working. I've submitted a review for one of the games in my digital library, but at the moment, it's still under review. That said, I've noticed that GoY already has some user reviews up:
