Sony: A headset will ship with every PS4

Huh. I always pegged you for being affiliated with Microsoft if I had to pick. No idea you were actually Cerny! Glad to have you aboard bro! You did a great job with PS4!

I have no affiliation, but a preference for the Xbox.

$599 is clearly a joke, but the PS4 sure is shipping a lot of hardware in the box.

Due to the party chat system, Xbox Live is quiet in every game...even popular ones.

Due to no party chat on PS3, most games have a lot of people talking and hearing their reactions, especially in 1v1 or 2v2 style games, is part of the fun.

Xbox Live ruined that fun because everyone and their mother uses party chat. Not only does it ruin fun, but it ruins any chance of teamwork over the mic, ruining any games that is more than just "point and shoot". So Billy can selfishly talk to his friends in a private chat about aimless garbage.

This is the first time I've ever seen somebody post AGAINST Party Chat.

But I do agree with you, chatting in a game is something that's been taken for granted and wasted. Two of the best online gaming experiences I've ever had were SOCOM on PS2 and SOCOM FTB on PSP, I don't even like SOCOM but being in those intense situations with gamers who took teamwork seriously was something that will stay with me for a long time; I've been so disappointed in not finding that comradeship again that I rarely play online games, I can't think of even a co-op game that's really meant the same.

lol can't wait for KZ SF now

"Yo mama's so fat....she had to marry Rico"

haha but I think this is a good move. Won't cost em much and will help grow the online community from the get go

Add me to the anti-party chat group, also.

Tell us the bad news Sony. I want to hear about the pay wall, the ridiculous price of Gaikai, and the proprietary everything.

$100 controllers

And my guess is they'll move forward with the tiered service of PS+. Platinum level needed to get all the good stuff which will be higher cost than the current service.

If PS4 has a similar system, multiplayer games will be quiet, despite ironically everyone having and using a mic.

I absolutely agree. Party chat shouldn't make its way onto PS4; I think it totally goes against the idea of socializing online. Part of the original fun with the 360 was you never knew what you were going to hear; online interactions always felt fresh.

With that said, I definitely think the Options button on the DS4 should open up a menu that has a Mute/Mute All button. Give people a quick, immediate way to block users they don't want to hear.

And report them for abuse!

Yup, party chat kills the community. It's good and bad, too many people use it too much. Strategy goes out if your playing solo online.

Sony is on a roll, I'm already in for day 1. I can't wait to get some more ps4 news, e3 is gonna be insane this year.

I think it's almost a guarantee PS4 will have a party chat mode considering its been high in demand this entire generation and they put one on the vita.

I wonder with all the outcry against party chat if there's a way to have both. Be able to toggle something with a button to talk to your party versus talking to randoms in a given match in CoD or something. It shouldn't be an all or nothing proposition.

I will mute everyone (except for friends) regardless, because apparently everyone who uses a mic doesn't speak english and or is 5 years old, but good move by Sony

Sony, what about adding a simple system menu setting called "mute all people"?
And not forcing headsets down my throat? I don't want to pay for stuff that I don't need. I bought one for PS3. Used it maybe 5 times in total.

And never allow shit like in Uncharted 3 mp again that I need to lower volume EVERY SINGLE TIME I start the damn thing just to mute all the people.

I don't like paying for something i'm not going to use.

*sigh* thanks Sony.

Don't tell me you're serious. Those things cost pennies so it wouldn't make a difference to the PS4 price if it's included or not.

The camera however, well... that's a different story.

Good, now everyone that I play with in BF will have a voice.

Hope Sony develops a system so we can report racists/big mouth children by recording the offense using the Share function.

Only problem I ever had with idiots was the one time I played MW2. The 12 year olds will stay with the call of duty esque marketed games.

I go on Killzone 3 all the time and most people are friendly or keep to themselves.

Yeah, this is something that REALLY bothers me on PS3. There's no system-level mute option and tons of games don't allow you to mute people at all.

do what I do...plug in USB headset and leave it on table/floor. That is my mute all option.

I have that same feeling. There has to be "something" wrong somewhere here in the big picture here, because as of right now, Sony is rolling a perfect score. Which is very-very odd going by their past. It seems too good right now and the only thing that could rain on their parade is if MS has an Ace in the hole and one ups them. We'll see.

I don't like paying for something i'm not going to use.

This headset probably costs them a drop in the bucket. And, unfortunately for you, there's a lot more people that will use and want this item than you and the few on GAF that won't ever use it.

You have to remember, this was a "big complaint" issued against them by consumers and especially the media last gen, and thus they're correcting it. Give them credit where it's due.

Man, you got a nice camera in every box, plus a headset, huge HDD, great components...This thing is going to be $499 minimum.

I was hoping the camera and headset were not included so there would be a chance at $399 but now with the aforementioned plus 8GDDR5, I can see it 500+ easy. I mean in the long run stuff like this is for the better, I just hope there is demand in those first pivotal years so we can get developers on board sooner and ditching old shitty consoles.

yes! THANK YOU sony.

I think one of the huge shortcomings of the ps3 was a major lack of consistency in the availability of peripheral hardware any given user may have; and I believe it hurt those features that had a segmented user base. Some games have trophies, some games support voice chat, rumble/ camera/ move/ etc etc. Those are all somewhat different scenarios, but I think voice chat was the biggest letdown.

If a peripheral is guaranteed to be available, it goes a long way in features that use that peripheral being used well. Not the horribly annoying limitations of the current ps3 voice chat system.

Games in which people are serious about teamwork still have a lot of chatter. If its a random game just for fun then year its going to be quiet.

I dont see anything wrong with a system that lets people talk to their friends.

I agree. Between:

A) if my friends aren't already in my game/team, I can still talk to them and tell them how to get into my game, or just BS around and talk about inside jokes and crap

B) being forced to not be able to talk to my friend who doesn't happen to be in my game AND on my team.

I'd much prefer A)... and if I want to be serious about the game I'm in, I can still leave the party and talk team strategy, etc.

I hope it is better quality that the 360 one.

What I would really like to be able to have earphones which have top quality sound plugged into controller. As I'm sound of the game.

PS4 launch copies 360 launch confirmed.

So much about the PS4 admits that the PS3 was a fuckup.

I'm loving it. Sony is learning lessons from Microsoft. 360 has benefited the industry. My interest in PS4 grows daily.

This. If they keep on copying the 360 it'll make me a happy gamer. I'll still stick with pc gaming as my primary gaming for the next few years though until we see some substantial price drops on the consoles. :)

Headset with the machine will be nice, I could never bother to get one myself. Always wanted one with good quality and didn't know where to check. Just having one will be nice though.
