After the disaster that was Series S... NO.......
How was the series S a disaster? If anything it lead to optimization for more games. For this reason I'm not opposed to the portable version of the next system being the baseline. The dedicated tv boxes should run everything swimmingly anyhow if this were the case. Games need to get more into being games instead of pushing the next visual boundary. I would be perfectly fine with taking a whole generation to switch to a hybrid platform.

Launch consoles during typical gaming workload:

XSS = ~75-100w
PS5 = ~160-200w
XSX = ~160-210w

PS6 will probably be clearing 200w and the handheld is rumoured to be 15w. This is way beyond the XSS <> XSX/PS5 gulf.

I don't think they will even need to mandate it because I don't think any developer will be making something so advanced that it couldn't be possibly run scaled down on the handheld. And in that case why wouldn't they also release it for the handheld and sell to more people. Ask yourself how many ps5 games there are today that don't also run on ps4, or on a much less powerful pc. The diminishing returns are only going to dimimish further.

The switch 2 will probably be good enough to get almost everything moving forward. Pretty sure ps6 portable will be more capable than that.

All the games are going to be "PS5 Games" so as long as the handheld is close enough to PS5 performance, it won't be an issue.
I mean PS6 exclusive games are not going to be PS5 games...

Though I would agree that PS5 will be getting games for a long while due to a long cross gen period...so in that sense it won't be an issue....

If they say the handheld is designed to play the same games as the PS6 just at a reduced resolution I hope that's actually the case, without devs getting involved. With PSSR I hope that helps the situation.

Can't bear for there to be a repeat of the Series S.

If both PS6 and the handheld have the same amount of RAM and CPU clocks, then maybe yes.
Developers should be able to scale it much easier than Series S / X situation.

Only for first parties, and maybe not in all cases. For most multi-platforms they won't need to, cause those need to be able to run on Switch 2 as well!

Yepp, I am quite sure that if there is such a handheld, there will be mandatory support for it.

That way they will be able get a huge game library for this device fast. If the gamer does not know if games come to the handheld, he wont buy it.

Of course Sony has to make sure, that it is powerful enough to port the games easy by reducing resolution and features or whatever.
The Xbox Series S had for example the problem that the memory was much smaller and some parts of it extremely slow compared to the main device, which made some ports extremely difficult to impossible...

I don't get games that costs so much more than ever to be reduced to handhelds. If it happens, we're playing the game of exceptions again, and we're tired from tiny exceptional games lists.
