Other interesting targets if they went for something bigger would be Capcom (market cap $8 billion) and Square Enix ($7 billion). These would make more sense than Epic especially given the games that typically do really well on PlayStation.
Also Sumo Digital (£500 million) and THQ Nordic (€ ??) have scooped up a lot of teams and ip in recent years.
I think I would like to see Sony invest in PlayStation studios given that there is a fair amount of consolidation going on, if they don’t acquire the big publishers will continue to do so. I think I’d like to see them do something big (Capcom) something medium (Sumo) and a bunch of smaller deals with long term partners (Housemarque, Supermassive, Bluepoint). They definitely have the cash to do so.
