Sony E3 2014 Conference Thread

Sorry that I don't put such a premium on 'wow this amazing PS4 exclusive horse armour DLC makes my PS4 so worth it'. GTAV and Arkham Knight both look awesome though. But then so did AC:Unity and The Witcher 3.

There's zero need for this kind of garbage.
Both conferences were okay. Except sony showed more "new" stuff. That's it.
The middle part was indeed a wet fart and boring as hell, but in the end, tallying up the content delivered, I think many people would agree with EDGE here.
I think it's also because Microsoft and Xbox fans were hailing this E3 press conference as the second coming. HUGE metaton 3rd party exclusives, Phil Spencer single-handedly saving the brand with insane games, the turning of the tide.
Instead, we got non-stop things we all expected to show up and nothing besides that.
Many people watch these things for the surprises. Sony had some, Microsoft did not.
I think both of them lose for having fairly weak 1st party exclusives this year. I think these are just the ones coming out:
Sony: Little Big Planet 3, Last Us Us cross-gen port and DriveClub.
Microsoft : Sunset Overdrive, Halo 1-4 collection and Forza.
I give it to Microsoft just because Sunset Overdrive looks fun, refreshing shooter. I've never been a fan of Halo or non-arcade style racing games. Little Big Planet 3 has a nice aesthetic and pleasant music, but that's about it. I wasn't interested in Last of Us on PS3, so it does nothing for me on PS4. DriveClub looks good as does Forza, but the genre doesn't interest me. Quite frankly, the only third party multiplatorm game that interest me was Batman while I lost interest in Destiny.
I do think Xbox One's Scalebound and PS4's Bloodborn are going to be cool given their respective developers, but without gameplay, it was hard to be that impressed by them. At least next year is shaping up to be better for both platforms, but by the looks of it, Nintendo should basically win this year by default for best exclusive lineup while it's third party support will of course, remain piss-poor.

I was hoping Sony would announce an Uncharted 1-3 HD remaster pack, but I guess it wouldn't make much sense when TLoU remaster hasn't come out yet. It would be a solid counter to the Master Chief collection though, and give PS4 people who didn't play the original Uncharteds a chance to catch up on the series before 4 comes out.

Nintendo will continue to carer to its fans but they are missing a ton of support to the point of with irrelevancy. So I'm excited but mainly for those Nintendo games.

Were there games on the forefront at the XB1 reveal event? That's the difference, which some people want to overlook on this thread.
That applies to both of the conferences. It's beyond me why presenting multiplatforms on one side would be worse than on the other. They had pretty much the same amount of exclusives and multiplatforms.

Yep, I only own a PS4, but I don't give a flying fuck about which conference was best, I give a fuck about all these games that were just announced, not just the exclusives, but the multiplatform stuff too (I really don't get why people seem to just dismiss multiplatforms), personally I'm glad the days of exclusives are coming to an end.

If you are mentioning indies and DLC than you should add the Infamous DLC and entwined to PS4

What happened to Everybody's Gone to the Rapture? It's scheduled for 2015 and I don't remember seeing any gameplay footage. It wasn't even mentioned at Sony's conference

Yes, so we can't say either one way or another. The game is out February, so I doubt they don't have a properly running build on the system yet.

Not to make this thread about MS, because obviously it isn't, but I feel it is worth noting they also have Ori and the Blind Forest (MS IP), Project Totem (Press Play, devs of Max: Curse of Brotherhood), Happy Wars, and Season 2 of Killer Instinct coming out this fall for first party output. So, MS actually has a pretty good Fall lineup for 1st party if you add those 4 games as well.
As for Sony, I'm sure they have some more smaller 1st party stuff this fall also, I'd expect them to announce some smaller titles at Gamescom. I'm also expecting Planetside 2 at some point nearer to Fall

And did you miss all those Indies ms showed? I'm not moving any goalposts, but moneyhatting exclusive content doesn't win an e3 for me. I saw both companies announcing tons of games and just giving us short teasers of their biggest exclusives. Maybe you like those exclusives from Sony more, fine, but I just don't get how one would think that Ms got crushed.

Bloodborne will probably be awesome, but Uncharted 4 is all I needed to see. The graphical fidelity is insane, even if it is pre-rendered.

To be fair I was expecting MS going in full Megaton mode before the conferences happened... they needed that more than Sony... they needed to show to the public they have "things" to make you buy a Xbox One.
It was a disappointment in these terms... MS couldn't sell Xbox One again except for these that already want to buy one.
PS. I expect the same "exclusive" marketing Sony did with Watch Dogs / Destiny to happen with GTA V.

I think those devs prefer Gamescom more than anything, and that's probably why.
It's awesome to see Hello Games go from being the random star of the show at VGX to a full on E3 press conference showing, with 2 trailers!
Well he listed the coolest looking Indy at least. Dat no mans sky doh.

I'm not saying MSFT didn't have anything redeeming, I'm simply saying Sony had a lot more games.
I am really surprised by the amount of weight Sony is throwing behind Bungie. At this point, I can't see a reason why anyone would want to buy Halo 4 Destiny on an Xbox. This will certainly be an experience to watch. Sony banking squarely on 3rd parties for this holiday season. I wouldn't be surprised to see a GTAV PS4 bundle and exclusive ad agreement either and if that happens then they really don't need a blockbuster 1st party title this Fall.

Instead of all the pointless fighting and bickering over letter grades, can't we just agree that both presentations were pretty much equal to each other. Both had games we want to play, both had downsides (boring pacing/numbers for one too many cgi trailers and 2016 games for the other).

That Gamespot rumour turned out to be BS. We knew they had a Japanese game in development (Platinum's game looked so unappealing to me but we'll see in the future) so I'm guessing they didn't mean that.

This was MS trojan horse technique most people expected, it was a turnoff as the stuff they talked about wasnt really about games. It was like they were hiding from the rumors that were true at the time.
Put it into context next time plz, it wasnt just because of the TV stuff.

Indeed. Sony left out alot of games: Deep Down, Rime, Santa Monica's work, etc. Heck, even Driveclub wasn't shown in the conference for some reason.

Honestly, I actually more impressed overall, by the indie support on both sides than by the big exclusives. Ori, No Man's Land, BroForce, Devolver Titan Souls, Not A Hero, Hotline Miami 2, Spectra, Below, Guacamelee Championship Edition, Hyper Light Drifter and some other games I can't remember the name of.
I really don't like the approach they took with Killer Instinct regarding its delivery of content. I just don't like waiting months for content to come out. Still, I suppose it counts for this year since its not typical DLC.
