Sony E3 2014 Conference Thread

Rank: B+/A-

Pros:
Tons of games
Beginning was hype
Sony definitely listened to fans and their thoughts
Trailers were dope
Third-party on board
Indies on board
R&C Movie
GTA V saves from competitor on PS4
Games shown at other conferences looked better at this one
Surprise game! Woo!
Cons:
Presentation was horrible all-around
Powers was cool, but it's not for E3
You can't beat Jack, especially with a guy who doesn't represent the "face" of Sony... really bland guy
Hype started in the beginning rather than spread out
Tried to copy last years "applaud" by hiring stand-ins to clap at some times... Youtube really?
Unintentionally hinted at things that didn't come into fruition
Vita TV bundle was an absolute joke
Too much time spent on stupid shit in general
Mics sucked

Overall, most here are disappointed because they hyped up stuff that just wasn't plausible, period. Anyone saying this conference sucked or was "the worst" were due to most of y'alls own accords. Sony's conference was beyond solid, but many little things brought it down in the grand scheme of things.

This was one of the rockiest conferences I've ever seen. We got some surprises (white PS4, LBP3) mixed with technical hiccups and a terrible, terrible TV section in the middle (note to gaming companies... start putting all of your non-game segments at the beginning of the conference to get them out of the way... or better yet don't have them at all).

I really liked the games they showed (dat No Man's Sky) but that other stuff just brings the overall conference down. In the end I would have to give it a 5/10 or a C... the same as Microsoft. Had they not had those bad parts it would have easily been a 7/B- from me. Uncharted looked damn good though.

Bloodbound, Grim Fandango, No Man's Sky, ABZU and Batman: Arkham Knight won E3 for me. I really liked the MGSV trailer too.

Shame about UC4 trailer not featuring ANY gameplay at all.

My final grades:

MS: 8/10
EA: 3/10
Ubi: 7/10
Sony: 8/10

I have to give the nood to MS because the constant flow of games during his conference. The TV section killed the Sony media briefing for me.

No Gran Turismo 6
No Ridge Racer 8
No OutRun 3

:(

I could've screamed when that piece of shit at the end was not actually TLG. As a whole, pretty boring conference, no more Bloodborne gameplay shown. Nothing to make me run out and buy a PS4 anytime soon was shown.

There were moments of filler and dragging, but what they showed looked neat and is helping to steer me towards a PS4 in the future. I give them 4 out of 5 exclusive missions.

This conference sucked...

No, it was actually pretty good. I really don't know how with all the games they showed anyone can say that with a straight face.

This conference just reinforced what we all knew. That Sony doesn't have (much) of its own for 2014. But they have a TON of stuff in the pipeline. 2015 is going to rock. This was exactly the type of press conference I would expect when we already know that the big first party games are pushed back.
Vita TV is big news in the states. GTA V is big news. A white PS4 (woohoo!) is big news. Just not enough of it that matters for this year. Sony might not have won, but they sure did set up a win for next year.

Sony walks away with the win. GF remake was a great surprize, and NML was fantastic to see again.

I just wish we got the full Project Beast gameplay trailer though :(

It was a good conference that got marred by Shawn Layden section. My god do they not do a mock run through? That part should've just been left as a press release.

I give it a B overall. Without Layden it would've been B+ easy, teetering on A-.

SONY: 6

- NO TLG, The Order gameplay was a joke, No GT next gen, No GOW, No Crash Bandicoot, No Bloodborne gameplay, Stupid gameplay segments of games we already saw, Stupid TV section,

+ Batman is lookign good, No Man's Sky game of the show so far

MS: 6

- Too many CG trailers

+ Lots of interesting games to look forward

EA: 4

- Sequels, sequels, sport games, sport games, shooters, shooters, lot's of games in very early stage

+ YAY for ME2!

Too much crap and excruciatingly slow moments in the show, but in the last half hour they gave us some really incredible stuff.

MKX
GTAV
Batman Arkham Knight
Uncharted 4

Games like No Man's Sky, FarCry 4, and AbNU (I think that's the name?) were also cool. The rest of the games that I liked were shown either in CG form or displayed by some boring gameplay. Didn't do much for me at all, felt really bored.

I'll give the show a respectable 7. Microsoft had the better show with a better lineup of games.

omg that was so awful. Tons of sequels, rehashes, and so little new that if it was shown I forgot. And then the TV Bit, and then no TLG or Lightning HD collection. The only game I want is AC Unity this fall. I can't believe I spent $400 on this. Joke's on me

Hmm, I have to wholeheartedly agree with you here. There were many times where I nearly found myself dozing off (perhaps they shouldn't have their conferences so late?). The TV bit was absolutely insufferable.

Microsoft may have been "safe", but it kept my interest throughout, even if I ended up not wanting any of what was shown. What big news did Sony have? Remasters of MONTH old games?

That was some really odd pacing. Half way through I was expecting it to end, but then it picked up momentarily before slowing down once again.

Nothing much I'm really interested in, and a lot of the announcements were things I was already aware of. Nothing truly surprised me.

I do think it's the best conference so far, but it's still just "decent". Hopefully Nintendo will announce something surprising tomorrow, and if not I still have the Smash Invitational which is my main reason for watching E3.

This conference just hammered home that I don't give two shits about first party games.

Sure, they look good, but 95% of my gaming time is spent on games that are available for all platforms (or at least a console + PC).

2/10, a point each for Bloodborne and LBP3

Them mentioning the letters and fan demands and the #buildingthelist campaigns and then COMPLETELY fucking ignoring what fans actually asked for and just wanking off the third party partners they were working with anyway was utterly insulting and depressing. They didnt give a fuck what people actually wanted and just read out a fake letter from a developer they wanted to work with anyway.

If it weren't for that awful mid section with lolmoviesandcomics, I'd be a lot warmer to the conference as a whole. Had a nice selection and a variety of games, but that middle really killed momentum and pacing. Eeeeeuuuugh.

It was a good conference but it was definitely longer than it needed to be. I'm not sure which I liked the most. I think Microsoft showed the better exclusives while Sony showed the better games overall, but Microsoft's was short(er) and sweet while Sony's dragged on.

Bullshit. Don't make me avatar quote you.

"Game after game" except for the 45 minutes of droning. The first half was strong, but then they completely killed the momentum with garbage PR in the second half.

Last Guardian is still probably dead and I don't care what Sony says.

I agree. That first half was great. They started out strong with all the Destiny announcements, and the white PS4 announcement, as well as Little Big Planet, then it slowly sunk and turned into a giant lecture. It lost the element of excitement and surprise once it got halfway through.

The beginning was good, the middle was shit(though No Man's Sky looks good), and the end was good. Overall, an ok but boring press conference. Really don't give a shit about indie, F2P or Powers.

Wish they showed more new exclusives for both the PS4 and Vita outside of Bloodborne. We already knew about pretty much all the games that were shown.

I feel the same way to towards sony's to microsoft's which is completely underwhelming.
The start was to indie focus, middle too much about tv and movies but the end kinda of redeem it. 5/10
Also why the fuck was bloodborne was CG trailer.

Sony: C
Microsoft: B+
EA: F
Ubisoft: B- (for Aisha Tyler)

About what I'd say. Sony's 2014 is just weak weak weak in terms of exclusives. Thought MS did a good job of showing 2014 games and I'm sure they'll continue with 2015 stuff later. They didn't even mention Quantum Break at their conference, which is maybe their most unique exclusive next year.

I liked a lot of it, but I'm confused about a lot of little games that would put me over the edge towards really liking it. Is Magicka 2 exclusive? Grim Fandango?

Meh conference as far as exclusives go. The Order must not be that far along at all if that's all they had to show. Was also hoping for actual Bloodborne gameplay.

Random thought: What happened to Lily Bergamo?
