Sony E3 Conference 2016 |OT|

What are you most excited for?

I thought the conference was great: They did what Microsoft has done in previous E3 Conferences, which is a complete blow out of games with minimal speeches and distractions. I felt their exclusive lineup was far superior to Microsoft, and I was surprised multiple times by what was announced.

Nah, not a game. Surprise i'm talking about refers to whats under the hood of that thing. But again, lips sealed until they talk about it.

I know, but I have to throw in a LoD reference every chance I get. Maybe one day my dream of it returning will come true.

I'm looking forward to the neo unveiling. I have about $1500 set aside for my gaming budget this fall. That'll cover the neo, psvr and any games that I'll want to pick up. Plus I'll sell my PS4 to my cousin

Such a tight paced conference. Props to the live score/ orchestra. I don't know about you guys but IMO the intro/ overture piece before God of War unveiling was awesome.

I felt the conference was lacking. I missed the AAA Japanese titles, the RPGS (besides final fantasy).

E3 was lacking for me, and Sony won E3 for me by default as a result. The others were just dreadful.

I really really liked it.

Loved they did something different with the format, and I'd say 90% of the things shown are something I want to buy. I can also see how some things need to be held off for Gamescom and TGS.

Biggest negative was no Persona 5 ;_;

A couple of these new game reveals were much further along than I expected them to be, gotta have stuff for E3 2017 :)

Yeah, and if not, prepare an exfiltration!! Unless, like, they're just really...patient...

Fav thing actually shown in the conference for me, though, was probably Dad of -- I mean, God of War and Spiderman. Which, yeaah, I guess are adequate placeholders. :P

So my car battery died but I was able to see the whole conference and find another means to charge my phone. What a fucking show! Holy shit all those games looked so good! I wish my fucking power would come back on so I can give RE VII a go. Sony totally killed it. Definitely the best conference in my opinion.

I wish they showed more 2016 games. :/
They kinda did that before the conference. Gravity rush had previews like a week before e3,gt sport was shown off two weeks before, the last guardian got its release date, abzu just got a date, no mans sky in august.

Third party exclusives
Kofxiv
Nioh
World of ff
DQ builders

Dude, tell me about it - I would love nothing more than a LoD remaster or sequel. I LOVED the original. The combat system for that game was super engaging for something that came out at the height of Playstation FF games. Wouldn't get anything that engaging out of JRPGs until Shadow Hearts. Now its all ARPGs for our JRPGs.

*sigh* i'm both old, and miss the good ol' days.

No way to satisfy everyone without a 4 week presentation. It isn't like the 2016 titles haven't been showcased. Hell, many of them will be shown again at Gamescom/PGW and TGS. This was a great show

Japanese titles, the RPGS (besides final fantasy).

Maybe because majority of western users who watch E3 aren't really interested in most JRPGs, except for Souls series and maybe FF.
I know many people here will be excited for the Tales series and the like, but when you consider the US/EU market as a whole, I guess they went with priorities.

So why was Sony's conference cut down? I thought it was supposed to be 90 minutes but ended up just over 60? Seems like that final demo was a quick tack on the end.

I liked it. They trimmed all of the fat and just focused on the bits people want. It was perfectly executed.

Sony's conference ruined me in so many ways

I feel like Sony really has gotten the E3 formula down pat. They've put on (arguably --before someone jumps down my throat) the best E3 show for several years now, back to back. But this one in particular feels the most cohesively paced.

Steps on getting gaf/twitter/whatever social media you're on to crown you the winner of E3:

- Create a spectacle. This is E3. All eyes are on you. People want to be wowed.
So, they book some grand looking theater and set up a /live orchestra/ (major props to whoever who came up with that idea) to set the mood

- Start off with a BANG.
That live orchestra paving the way for a Kratos appearance. Chills.

- Pacing. You need to sort out your pacing issues.
People don't want to hear some executive drone on and on about something they've tuned out of a min into the speech. So, they cut out the bloat. Snappy, back-to-back reels of games, games, games games.

- Surprises. Megatons. Hype. These are what E3 dreams are made of.
You need big, unannounced titles that would make waves. RE7. Batman VR. An exclusive (?) Insomniac Spiderman game. Why don't we bring Hideo Kojima up on stage and reintroduce Norman Reedus as our main protag yeaaa (and wow, how cool was that reveal.) Nothing like last year but hey, beggars can't be choosers.

- Show off your first-party studios.
New IP? Here you go. Tent-pole franchises? Sony's got you covered.

-Wet their palettes. Make them want more.
Horizon gameplay footage. TLG trailer with a release fate (the crowd cheers. kinda hilarious really but it's ok, they've already marked that date on their calander.)

-Third-party deals that make you look like you're the current hot stuff.
Star Wars. Just fill it all up with Star Wars. And a mandatory COD segment (let's cut all that DLC/Map talk because gamers aren't really into that anymore).

- "Oh, and one more thing."
End it off with a BANG. I still think that they had planned for R* to be there with their shiny new RDR. Who knows what happened there. Days Gone was kinda meh tbh.

Good presentation from Sony, but where are the release dates for the games?

October we get Last Guardian (looks great) from first party and thats it for me for 2016.

If the main purpose of the presentation was to launch and sale PS VR to people I think they failed miserably.

What are the first party killer apps to promote VR and build hype (from 50 VR games ready for launch)?

And I don't like that all the first party studios are doing open world games.

Horizon, Days Gone and God of War (maybe) all are open world games with similar looking environments (woods, trees, rocks, snow etc).

And Spiderman too will be another open world game, but I really liked what Insomnia showed us.

All the games had great graphics and impressive production values though.

Dear Sony where are Persona 5, Ace Combat 7, Gravity Rush 2, GT Sports, No man sky and some great indy games?

And I am very annoyed that they didn't even gave Vita 4-5 minutes.

8/10 from me and I hope they show more first/second party 2016 content in the following shows.

Why are people surprised about the PSVR price? We've literally known about that for a year now. He just re-iterated the price since we are 4 months from launch.

Skipped through the conference earlier before I left for work. It was alright. The David Cage game looked interesting before I read it was a David Cage game.

Car Horizon and RPG Lady Horizon were this year's high points for me, I guess.

e: and Spiderman was cool obv

Detroit has set the bar high with that trailer. I feel like people will refer back to all those choices shown when it comes out, and rip it for a downgrade and like 4 choices total. Hopefully not. Looked so cool.

David Cage said in Geoff Keighley's show that the scene can play out in 6 different ways.

Was hoping for some JRPG announcements, maybe some P5 stuff. But man the conference was still amazing, jam packed with great titles.

Excited for the Kojima title too, very mysterious.

Apparently there's some "insider" word going round that Red Dead was actually going to close the show but it got cut because of the Orlando shootings, something to do with some footage in the trailer showing a outlaw walking into a bar and shooting up the place?

For that reason they had to cut it and Rockstar didn't have another edit of the trailer and asked Sony for an extension on the conference? They couldn't do it and so the Days Gone demo was put on the end when it was supposed to follow the announcement trailer earlier on.

the only thing that bothered me I think is that there were very few release dates for the stuff shown other than what we have known already that is, I would have loved something for Detroit and spiderman

Just looked at the PS Blog to read through their conference related articles.

In the Farpoint one, they mention the PS VR Aim Controller. Has that been shown off before? Holy fuck it's dorky looking.

That's really interesting if true. The show ended about 10 minutes early.

Seeing that same narrative coming up like every other time Sony has an e3 conference so there ya go people

Quite a good conference, slayed the MS one from a games perspective for me. I LOVE the new God of War direction, the release date for TLG (though I still have reservations about how that game is turning out). Days Gone seems interesting and so does Spiderman. In the case of Spiderman, I hope the traversal is fun; a lot of open-world games have nailed traversal since the Spiderman PS1/2 days so they need to bring their A game.

They even had a slide at end which listed the 'release dates' for all the tiles shown. Made me laugh.

Ah! I had a feeling that they wanted to close with RDR.

Extension on the conference? What does that mean?

It also makes sense. The demo and ending felt totally weird and off and a bish vetted insider said Red Dead would be at Sony's show.

The rumor is Rockstar wanted Sony to start the conference a few hours later so they could recut another trailer.

Incredible, incredible conference. 10/10 easily. Probably the best conference ever (even if some other have some individual more exciting announcements). It was just perfect format, perfect setting, everything got me hyped. I mean, wow.

hmm interesting but with todays tech and how people work I am sure it could have been a simple cut.

EDIT: Esp since the incident happened on sunday morning I believe.

Unless the whole idea and themes of Red Dead perhaps was just too risky to show on a grand stage like that after what just happened? Rockstar have weathered some serious shit from the media before, perhaps this time might not be worth it or needed.

this i see more likely than a scene that could have been cut. Rockstar has been in the thick of it for controversy for years and decided NOPE this time, good of them if this rumour is true

Eesh. Yeah. It would have been nice for them to close off the conference but no way was that happening. Nice of R* to be extra sensitive to the tragedy that just happened though, if true.
