Check a couple pages back. Sony isn't offering more games. And most of the games they showed won't be around until 2017-2018.

No they definitely are, I'm talking about 2016 not specifically the conferences. 2016 games were announced last year. MS is still doing the whole "let's wait till the end of the year to have a few exclusives" while most of the year is a wasteland for their console and it's old.

Other than being a bit too post-apocalyptic, it was fantastic.

Of the blockbuster games shown I most want Horizon and Spiderman.

It was a very "blockbuster" conference compared to years past. But there are tons of other smaller studio games coming out, they just got little attention (although, probably still more than the Vita got, lol).

It was 95% games though, probably the highest ratio Sony has ever done.

Watching now, but had me cracking up in class when it started

MS
- New Console and Gears of War in the first few minutes of and some people were posing it was boring

Sony
- GoW (TLOU version) to start and many proclaiming it to be the best conference eva!!

Obviously not the same people but the difference in tones is hilarious

It's all in the presentation imo.

MS started off their conference with that quick, snappy tempo that I've come to associate them with.

But this is nothing that we haven't seen from them before. The all-green stage is snazzy. Familiar. Comfortable. There's nothing there to throw people out for a loop like what happened with Sony's grandiose start. A new slim console is big news for lots of fans and people in general. So good call, they start it off with that. Problem is, these images were already leaked. By the time Phil is there showing the console off, everyone had already gotten a good look at the console. ( Still wished that whoever who had leaked those XB1S images had decided against doing that. But it's already done. They just have to roll with it. /MS shrug) They follow that with the GeOW demo. It was fine. If they had shown off a beautifully scenic area or shown how they've done something new with the Gears formula, maybe that would have gotten people talking more about it. But then again when 343 made drastic changes to Halo, the fans were livid so maybe they didn't want to forsake familiarity for (possibly) needless innovation. And I know diff strokes for diff folks and all that, but was that really a 'wow' moment for you? Tbh, that seems to be MS's main issue right now. "It was good but not great." "It was okay." "It was solid". Middling reactions. Safe, solid conferences. E3 is all about the spectacle, isn't it? And being good doesn't cut it when your competitor is aiming for something beyond great.

Sony, on the other hand, opened their conference in this grand, opulent-looking theater. They already have people buzzing about the frigging /venue/. The conductor walks in and people are applauding and I'm here thinking, "Why is Neil Druckmann making such a grand entrance?" The lights are dimmed, the crowd goes silent and the /live orchestra/ start playing for a full what 3 minutes? There's a crescendo of nordic-esque music, the curtain rises and you see this boy playing with his tattered toys. Is this Horizon? TLOU2? A new IP? A gruff voice speaks and the camera pans to Kratos. Kratos with a /son/. The crowd roars. It also helps that the game looks absolutely stunning.

Sony it seems like have gotten that E3 conference formula down pat. They even took a page out of MS's own book and cut out the bloat. Focusing mainly on a snap, snap, snap of back-to-back games.

I also think that they yanked the ps4k segment. Maybe they decided it's too much of a half step now that Microsoft has a redesigned box out soon and the big jump next year. Instead of a spring launch they will probably just do next holiday with a equal or greater power profile.

If the ps4 has flexibility to go down to $250 it could do really well this holiday over xbox one s St $300/400

$400 is DOA. Add ons like this don't have a great track history to begin with. $299 and you might get some adoption but if you are expecting wide spread sales, its got to be $199 or less.

They would have been in a better position. This isn't so much about the next iteration of consoles as it is about the positioning of them. In 2017 MS will have offerings in the $300 range, the $600 range (presumably), and the $600+ range (everything on W10)

Sony will have the fixed segment of their Neo console.

The thing is, Sony wasn't gonna have something outshine the PS VR and they don't need to yet. I feel Sony was dumb by showing Lego and Skylanders and should have replace it with GT Sport, GR2, or a new Indie Spotlight.

MS right now, feels a bit samey to me, they have good indies and DR4 looks great, Horizon 3 as well but nothing else clicked with me. Recore maybe but I thought Sony brought more games that sparked an interest to me.

I do know XBOX only played their Scorpio card because they need to catch up and maybe the 4K consoles are needed.

I'll never understand internets i suppose.

This conference was legit as all holy hell. Blew the others out of the water. No fat. All lean and mean games. Some I was into a little and a bunch i was into A LOT. Fuck man... It sold me on the new CoD ... like seriously.

Fuckin aces. Hate gonna hate i suppose.

whatd you guys think of them not having an indie spotlight?

Yeah I get the feeling that Sony is showing a little lack of confidence in this thing. Like maybe it was a mistake to jump into vr now.

Would. Have liked to see an update on shenmue and ff7 remake..

I think you're way way waaaay off.

It's gonna launch later this fall.

I agree.
The games are just now coming into their own, there is little reason to rush to PS4k.

That's cause COD was actually DIFFERENT this time.

I think it's DOA unless they get a killer app. Re7 looks pretty cool, but that won't be a killer app. The space shooter one seemed bland, and everything else is an "experience". I think it's reasonable.

What does that even mean "Sony's games."

Literally the gaming version of this

Sony has such a diverse range of games they make or partner up with (not counting 3rd party cause hey you can get those anywhere. If someone seriously says something like "sony's games" it's clear they are not really willing to open up to a game

Well, just take a look at social media. People LOVED it and all you hear is "Sony nailed it" or "Sony won". So yeah, it was amazing.

Sony had a solid conference this year. Probably my favorite out of them.

A big change from that bad conference of last year, it did nothing for me.

I feel there was a lot of Third person action games and a lot of VR games, and not much else.

With that being said; TLOU, Death Stranded (Kojima!), God of War, Days Gone and Horizon were absolutely stand out moments.
But what about the great innovative indie games? What about the other genres? Racing, sport, platformers, strategy, sims, F2P, online? I felt the spectrum presented was not as large as I hoped.

I also had hoped for some Hardware announcements. A PS4 slim? New PS4 colors? A new improved controller? New headset? reduced price? more functionality and improvements to PSN? new partnerships with new services?

That was a dope conference. Loved a lot of it.

It's nice to see some of Sony's first & second party finally come into PS4 form here with all their games. Shit, is surprising to me, to see how much of a powerhouse Sony worldwide studios have become.

Very much appreciate the pace of the whole show and how it didn't have too much talking in between.

Kojima though, dude is an ace. Hella Stoked for him.

8/10 conference for me. Nothing as mindblowing as the holy trinity last year but some fantastic looking games and probably the most tightly paced conference they've had (at least from the ones i've seen).

Really!?!? Wow. So you don't like games. Got it.
Ugh, I know this long after the fact and is just going to spark a useless argument based on a tossed off comment, but fuck it, it's late and I'm in the mood to argue

I do not like character action games, I do not like ICO's particular brand of art and I'm wary of VR's capabilities in the current iterations after having spent quite a bit of time using it. I adore most of the other genres shown, but I don't think the games Sony was showcasing look particularly great.

Horizon ZD has a really cool setting, but from the various demos I've seen the structure looks wayyyyy too close to an Ubisoft Far Cry-type open world game ("hunt the things, get the resources, fill out these checkboxes, yay") which I've completely burned out on. I would like to be wrong, but that's what it looks like from a distance so far to my eyes.

Days Gone looked pretty but also looked very very generic both thematically and mechanically. More zombies and more shooting zombies. Whoopie.

The Quantic Dream/Telltale type of game is fantastic when it doesn't take itself too seriously (Until Dawn was my GOTY) but Detroit looks like it's going to be way too self serious for its own good.

So there. There are my justifications.

good god it's late

Wow this conference surpassed my expectations

I want to say it's 10/10, but because of that Crash announcement crap I will drop it to 9/10

other than that shit this was goat conference.

Sony had a solid conference this year. Probably my favorite out of them.

A big change from that bad conference of last year, it did nothing for me.

Last conference was all about the hardcore gamers. This conference was all about the blockbuster games.

It's logical, as early console adopters are hardcore games, you want to cater to them especially earlier in a console cycle. Once your hardware total reaches certain thresholds you can do what this conference was.

I can honestly say that was the best conference I have seen. Focus on games and gameplay, very little phony presentation crap, just game after game after game... And they all looked great.

God of War looks amazing. I want to see more of the game before passing judgement, but the series had gotten stale and was in need of a big change. Still, not sure how I feel about them going in such a (seemingly) radical direction. New franchises are for that. #NeverForget"TombRaider"

Bear McCreary werking.

Orlando shoutout. Classy as fuck.

Days Gone looks interesting, kind of like The Last of Us? Hopefully it's not a generic zombie game. That would be lame.

The Last Guardian! yes ;__;

Horizon Zero Dawn looks so good. Such a bad title though.

Detroit Become Human. Anther horrible title. Who the fuck decided to name it that? And what happened to the Kara chick? I was hoping she'd be the main character. Anyway, I thought it looked promising.

Resident Evil 7! Looked great. A return to form.

Not too sure on VR, but Farpoint looked cool and X-Wing VR could be fun. Arkham VR though? Okay? What's that even going to look like?

FFXV! CHOCOBOS YES the theme is so good. VR part looked janky though.

Call of Duty. The space stuff looked like a nice change of pace for the series. I was honestly sort of interested before I saw that it was a CoD game. Eh.

Modern Warfare Remastered. Don't care.

Crash remasters? Nice! No new game though...Also, annoying how they kept cutting to the crowd. Like, show the stage ffs.

Crash in Skylanders. Looks horrible.

LEGO Star Wars. Cute. Don't care.

Kojima! YES YES

I loved the PS1 Spider Man games but never played any of the others. This might be cool? Wait. Insomniac?! On the one hand: hell yeah! On the other: they're down to doing licensed games? :/

So it is a generic zombie game after all...it looked better than Dead Rising and State of Decay, but still. I'm pretty much over zombies.

Overall a solid showing from Sony, and easily the best conference of the show. B+

Sony: 7/10

Microsoft: 5/10

Ubisoft: 4.5/10

EA: 3/10

I might be a little harsh on Sony's conference, but this was so disappointing. I expected so much more based on the hype from insiders. I should had went into this with low expectations.

Putting faith in "insiders" is usually ripe for disappointment. A lot of it is just gas and self-promotion.

MS is moving forward and expanding their Xbox brand into the entire budget line. From folding-chair-basement tier to Smokey+ tier. They are positioning themselves to have a presence in every category.

Sony on the other hand is still sitting back and banking on their install base to carry them forward. The 360->One transition is an excellent example of that not working.

LOL, every categories. Go find a list of PS4 games coming out this and next year versus a list of Xbox One games. Tell me which one has more categories.

Riiiight cuz noone in the world is gonna buy ps4 at 249, 199 in the near future right ? Those 600 are gonna just fly off shelves lol

I really don't think it's necessary. Save it for next year and hit the gtx980 performance at an acceptable market price.

Lower cost could really sell some machines this holiday.

Honestly, this is how I would do it.
I will be surprised if the PS4 is not 299 this holiday. And with the lineup they have...

Hahaha haven't seen that gif before.

On topic, the reason the '360 dominant = X1 dominant' logic didn't stick was because of the way the hardware was presented, not the games; the X1 has arguably the best first party showing that first year.

We're talking about a mid-gen conference that is primarily software focused. Sony did just fine. Better than, imo.

If that gif is foreshadowing anything, please wear a lifejacket. Stay safe fellow GAFer.

Andrew House already said last week that Neo was not going to be talked about tonight. There was no yanking of anything because it was never there to begin with.

I've hit the reality bubble. Won't be playing most of these games till late 2017 or 2018 or even 2018.
PS4 has passed the point of droughts though. It has got a stacked lineup up until E3 2017, with E3 2016 painting a vivid picture of late 2017 and beyond. Future is even brighter.

I'm really looking forward to Insomniac's Spider-man game. I have a lot of faith that it'll be something fun. I'm pretty bummed that didn't show any footage or screens of the Crash remasters. It's really confusing. It's not clear on how these games are actually being "remastered", but I'll pick them up regardless unless they end up like THPS did.

Well imagine vegans watch a Bacon-Conference. Some people don´t like Sonys games. Is that strange? Yes. But is it totally out of this world? Don´t think so. Even if you account for the consolewarrior bs.

But Sony make different games. How can you define Sony games since they don't even share characteristics?

I loved the PS1 Spider Man games but never played any of the others. This might be cool? Wait. Insomniac?! On the one hand: hell yeah! On the other: they're down to doing licensed games? :/

On the post-show, they said it's their largest dev team ever working on this. So it seems it's more than just a contract job to pay the bills at least.

I'm genuinely excited for it, Spider-Man definitely deserves a proper quality game akin to the Batman Arkham ones. Hope Insomniac can deliver.

Days Gone looked so bad to me. That and the weird Kojima reveal were the only low points of the show to me, with almost everything else being exciting(besides Lego/Skylanders). Horizon shot WAY up my radar and GoW looked great. Detroit has my interest as well.

Getting rid of my XB1 and getting an S purely for media since there will be literally ZERO reason for me to ever buy an Xbox game on console again it seems. I'm probably in for a couple of those custom controllers too. Between that and all the PS4/PC games coming in the next 6-8 months, going to have a lot of buying to do.

Lol, I love that picture.

Also, yeah, you're totally right. It's very reminiscent of the stupid way some people dismiss "indie" games.

Andrew House already said last week that Neo was not going to be talked about tonight. There was no yanking of anything because it was never there to begin with.

He said that after the Scorpio news was leaked though. I really do think their plans for ps4k changed in the last two months.
