Like I said, you're misrepresenting Sonys case. You can think they don't have a case and this game doesn't infringe on Horizon despite the similarities in character designs, monster design, world, art design, logo and trade dress, lore, game concept etc. but its just factually and objectively wrong to claim it's just about robot dinosaurs.

I am saying they do have a case based on all this nothing more. They can take their case to court and see what happens. Tencent is many times bigger than Sony and you're basically saying that they can rip of whomever and people have no recourse.

Or more archaic. Maybe steam powered. Anything. Instead they made them have the exact same sleek design, including white panels with lights.

My prediction is that this case settles shortly after Tencent makes some very minor changes to show they're acting in good faith

Holy shit just watched the trailer and see they took the gameplay from elden ring and mixed it with the artstyle of Horizon with the addition of stealing the ghost npc from destiny and destiny 2. If they hadn't dropped that title I would have assumed this was a Horizon sequel. Think Sony has a pretty good shot at winning this.

Nah, Sony isn't going to win this. The Pokémon Company has a stronger case against Palworld than this case. The Zoids franchise is the one that popularized robot dinos and not the Horizon series.

So why pick the NCSoft game over Tencent's? I think Tencent has a better track record for these types of GAAS titles anyway, and they're a bigger player in the Chinese (and global) market. Tencent and SIE have already been shadowing one another in other investments for several years; giving Tencent an official license for this would've been a decent way to maybe get something official going in terms of a partnership or just having another Horizon GAAS, then let the market decide which one sticks around (Tencent's or NCSoft's).

I have argued that Nintendo has a stronger case and that's because they do. It's based on patents. I still don't think it's the right thing to do. Nintendo lawsuit is not about plagiarism or copyright. It's about patent infringement.
A patent about game mechanics so vague it could be applied to thousands of games of many different genres and they are trying to amend it mid lawsuit.

If Sony was complaining about patent infringement then it would be the same.

Government hackers work over time for IP theft from the west.
Their military weapons are usually copies with Chinese names.
Their spies work overtime to steal military tech. They definitely stole stuff regarding f22 and f35. They're a menace.

Kinda tough situations always. Palworld and this are labeled rip offs. While Cuphead is apparantly also using Disney like aesthetics but I guess no character looks really like any known Disney one? Similar with war games. MoH, Delta Force were first I think, but their style is kinda defined by reality and the mission structure was copied from Goldeneye, Half Life or whatever. Blizzard only exists because they made unofficial Warhammer games. Trek to Yomi and the black and white mode of Ghost of Yotei borrow from old asian movies, homage or also ripping someone off?
I am not sure when something is just blatantly stealing and when something is adding a new spin to it, making it kinda new. Ideally the style and gameplay loop should be at least somewhat unique, which should still be possible in almost all cases.

As someone pointed out AI and how it works, basing everything on existing works, which is also the mode of almost all human artists, will be an interesting decision in courtrooms. Copyright and patents might have to be defined much more narrow.
