I remember seeing a picture after launch of some sneaker baron who built himself a throne out of PS5s.

Yeah, I've seen them as well but we have to remember that there are almost 20 million PS5s out there. Even if you saw such a pic each day with 100 unique PS5s in each it would still just be a drop in the ocean of total units sold.

Edit: Another thing to consider is that both Sony and MS does nothing to combat the scalping. If such a large amount of consoles would hurt them economically (as in having a customer not paying for software) they'd do much more to prevent it. 30-40% would be such a large amount that they would have done something by now. I can imagine 5% at most being in scalper hands. At absolute most.

i sold my PS4 to get a PS5 but realised there were no games to play it on so just bought a second hand PS4. the only game i want to play is Horizon Forbidden West and i can just play that on PS4.

not any reason to get a PS5 right now so kinda smart to make more PS4s if all the games are gonna be cross gen.

i'll get a PS5 in a few years if there are any exclusives worth playing but until then i'll stay on PS4.

Nah, it's completely different situation - XSS uses the same process node as XSX = same wafers, same SSD etc., whereas PS4 uses 14nm process, standard HDD and so on, so ramping up its production won't have any impact on PS5 production the same way XSS (or xCloud blades) has on XSX.

It's the exact same game at a better framerate for $400. I'm not selling my PS5 but it's not difficult to see why people would at this point if they're not interested in the literal handful of actual PS5 exclusives.

I played AC Valhalla on PS4 ( back then i havent got PS5)

And latter i went to my friends house saw him playing the same game on PS5. Let me tell theres noticable difference not just framerate but also loading times, textures and sharpness.

Being on enthusiast gaming forum i always thought everyone here wanted the best version posible for their gaming experience

but i can respect his decision( selling his ps5 and geting ps4 back to play hfw there) for whatever reason that was.

There is a little logic yes. PS5 getting less exclusives and more crossgen act like a PC some sort.

PS5 will run PS4 games at higher framerate, is that the Sony move? I mean, imagine Switch games are Wii U crossgen with better framerate.

I wish I had a PS5, but to be honest I not that hurry anymore. And even if I would get PS5, playstation games are come to PC so... PC games run better than PS5.

I'll be with PS4 with more 2 years or less now. Don't need to fight for a PS5 if Sony don't want to sell me PS5 anymore plus gamings are coming to PS4 and PC so I not missing much besides PC Master Race culture.

Some people just want to have fun without paying >300$ to get the game running. Games are not worse or better by the graphics. If the graphics decide how good the game is, it has awful gameplay (a little exaggerated)

Also don't forget possible new customers, they can bound to their brand. A customer that buys a PS4 now might buy a PS5 in the future. There are always kids that grow up.

Looking at the second hand market I see higher prices for a used PS4 and especially PS4 Pro now than a year ago. I sold my base PS4 for €100 to a friend, but could easily have gotten more than twice.

Tbh they should be producing 5 million a year. There is demand for PS4, and it would help offset the Xbox S market growth. Tbh, there was no PlayStation 4 stock this holiday season and they missed out on approaching 120 million. I honestly don't know why they aren't producing the console considering how easily Nintendo and Xbox are making their switch and series S platforms. Maybe it has to do with the disc drive?

Sony's dual model strategy of disc and digital is the best idea for this generation. Any other different spec and weaker model would not have been good at all.

For $100 more than the SS, you get significantly more power and bigger storage space with the PS5 digital. Only $100. SS is a horrible deal that just messes with game development in that aspect.

You people on here really need to stop falling for MS's PR games.

I have one issue with this strategy: Sony is not making enough digital edition s to make this proposal in any way significant. Most latest sales reports but the digital edition between 10 to 5 % of all the PS5s being sold. I remember the Spain latest figures showed 25 physical to every single digital edition sold.

They never considered to stop PS4 production in 2021, in the 'we believe in generations' interview Jimbo said that they were going to continue supporting during at least 2 or 3 years after PS5 release, and they always had a 10+ years cycle for their previous home consoles and the 10 year cycle would end in November of 2023.

They simply had to reduce PS4 productin during PS5 launch window campaign to make room to the record number of PS5s being shipped during its launch window, and since later the amount of total consoles they were able to produce was highly impacted by covid and chips shortages, and new PS5s shipments got sold out in minutes, they reduced even more PS4 production to make more room for PS5 production.

If it's real that they increased 1 million (all Bloomberg info about Sony must be considered as a rumor and a potential lie) then it would be because they increased the total production capacity but dont have enough chips for PS5, so went back to make PS4s, that since a bit before PS5 launch its shipments have been pretty limited.

Their sources indicated that production would stop by end of 2021 but plans have changed.

And Sony didn't plan for a faster transitioning, Jimbo said the opposite in the 'we believe in generations' interview: there's a huge active userbase, way higher than usual at this point (due to games as service or subs services like Netflix or PS Plus providing fresh content, plus a bigger amount of crossgen games due to multiple reasons like way more similar hardware and engines than usual, cheaper and easier porting, longer and more expensive production times that require extra revenue) so they planned to continue supporting PS4 for several years after PS5 launch because they knew that even if PS5 kept selling at record levels a big majority of their userbase would continue on PS4 for several years.

Well near as I can tell, cpus and ssds have no issue with shortages, which leaves just the gpu, which they can build 3 of for every 12tf unit of series X. Seems like a good trade off for a machine that trounces the ps4 and actually offers a good upgrade for xbox one or ps4 owners. Ps4 offers nothing new at all.

Well, Bloomberg is lying at least when they said that Sony originally planned to stop production in 2021.

To stop production in 2023 or 2024 would match Ryan's also said in the 'we belive in generations' interview, and would mean a 10-11 years cycle of PS4, which approximately would match their previous consoles.

If you read the original 'we believe in generations' quoted interview you'll notice that Ryan never says they were going to avoid crossgen or PS4 games. In fact he says the opposite: he mentions they were going to keep supporting PS4 for several years and explains why (massive userbase still active there, and even with PS5 record numbres would continue there because the majority of people needs several years to make the jump, so Sony would continue supporting them for several years).
