It also has HDMI 2.0 support. This means 60FPS works in the 4K resolution. You can now play games properly.

I could see 4k getting big when it hits closer to mass market prices. Gonna need to figure out how they're going to get 4k content to people though.

Oh shit, it comes out on my birthday. I know what I'm getting!
lol no I'm a poor college student

Hopefully by the time I have a decent amount saved this will have dropped a bit in price, if this really does support 4K at 60 FPS it'll be incredible. Can't wait to go check out one in person at the local Sony store.

Is Sony getting better in the pricing of their TVs? I remember they almost always are several hundred dollars more expensive that other comparable sets.

I can't *believe* these lazy developers keep making file sizes so damn large. Btw, how does technology work?
$3K without speakers.

Which is $2K on sale.

Looks like I'll be buying a 4K TV within the next year. That was quick!

There isn't enough 4K content available for me to consider this.

I'll wait until "Ultra" HD becomes standard. It'll be much cheaper by then.

4K full array local dimming or no buy. Nope. Pass.

Seriously... Was this close to buying this set, but i share the same sentiment. Hoping they release a local dimming set with 4k but this will probably be the only consumer model available until next year. At the very least, it has HDMI 2.0 which is nice to see.

I need a monitor for my that. Sofa PC gaming is not my thing.

But with Steam Big Picture mode and a wireless 360 pad or Dualshock, it's the same experience as playing on a console. Only with far better graphics.

Hell, my PC boots straight into big picture mode. I never need to use my keyboard.

is it just me or are local array (non edge lit) dimming screens becoming extremely hard to find?! I've been in the market with a 4k budget for a new TV in the next year and have ran into VERY few non edge lit screens, even in the high end (talking 1080p screens here).

Yeah i feel the same way. Though i do not browse AVS hardly as much as i used to, i really only can recall the Sony X something that is local dimming lol. Sharp needs to get back into the game. Sharp elite 2.0 @4k? Yes please.

Imagine Sony 4k tv's with ps4's integrated inside. They should beat Apple to this idea so Apple doesn't get credit for one more thing it didn't invent.

Sony had select BRAVIA sets with PS2 guts inside them. I can see them doing something like this again once the PS4 is settled and 4K TV prices are sub-$1,500. $3,500 is a whopping amount for most people at this point.

Dead

well not really...yet

There is edge lit local dimming, youre thinking of Full Array Local Dimming.

The previous XBRs were Full Array

The 4K/60p support of this year's 4K televisions is a bit suspect right now. HDMI 2.0 support just means you can accept 4K/60p as input, not that the tv can actually display it without downsampling it to 4K/30p or something. I'd wait for more info one way or another before jumping on a 4K tv this year.

Not interested, but I'm pleased with the cost reduction progress. I'm guessing in 2015 I'll get one for $1500.

Hate to party-poop, especially since I'm looking for a good 4k TV myself, but I'm not seeing 4k/60 in the specs at all...

How are current Sony LEDs? I will be in the market for a TV later this year and have been a plasma person, but I intend to have a PC plugged on it for Steam and an LED display seems more appropriate.

Wait does this mean the PS4 will have HDMI 2.0? I know it's already been in production, but Sony could actually have been ahead of the curve.

It's possible it could have it (the PS3 was in a similar situation with HDMI 1.3), but I would have expected that to have been mentioned today. We'll see.

Took a look at the 4k tv in both the Sony store and Magnolia and while nice, it's not that huge of a jump over 1080p to my eyes atleast, especially at a normal sitting distance of 6+ feet. I know it is on paper though. I don't think this will drive many people to upgrade(tv stations aren't even 1080p yet and they still film some shit in 4:3, most notably alot of reality shows.)

55" is too small. I'd go for that 65" TV but $5000 is way too expensive for me. I'll be waiting for the prices to hit the $1k range. So give it a few years...

Nah these tv's already display 60p. They just didn't have a way to natively input it
