Sony PlayStation |OT| All Things PlayStation, No Limits

Can you still download games youve purchased from PSN on a PS3 today?
Yes

Also, do you guys know how long after PS4 came out that Sony stopped selling DualShock 3's?
I'm just wondering how much longer they're going to have tons of DualShock 4's in stores.

Installed a new 1TB SSD in my PS3. It didn't make much of a difference in downloading and installing, but it's a huge, HUGE, improvement when it comes to UI, booting games and load times and browsing the store. Everything feels snappy and moves fast, especially the store, which was the slowest piece of shit I've ever navigated through. It's also nice to have more internal storage. Since I started to buy and download all the remaining games in the store out of fear of Sony closing it, I was almost out of space with the original 320gb. Only got a couple of more classics to acquire then I'm set.

Tell me how it's working out. I want to fire mine up but both controls are damaged. I can't justify dropping over $40 on Sony brand controls on two controls so long since the release. I've had an itch to replay the ICO & Shadow of the Colossus remasters.

Yeah, sure. So far it's been working out just fine. Almost done re-downloading everything from the store. Gonna try out some discs and play around over the weekend. The new SSD is very silent. You can't hear the PS3 working and huffing like it did with the mechanical hard drive 😃 If you do decide to fire up your PS3 again (which I think you should, PS3 is very durable and lasts forever if you take care of it, at least the Slim-model) and your controllers are toast I recommend Retro Fighters defender Bluetooth edition. Just ordered one because I don't like the Dualshock 3. It's a bit pricey, 50 bucks, but it's more modern and durable, with six axis and Bluetooth connection.

I'll check around for hard drives as it probably wouldn't hurt to format at minimum. Since the PS3s launch, I've owned the OG model (not the early one with BC but the 60gig just after it), the Slim and now embarrassingly enough...super slim (which really isn't that slim). That's right, the one I have at my current resident is that last model PS3 with the sliding disc door. Thanks so much for the recommendation on the controls. I didn't want to go Sony brand necessarily for the replacement either due to the battery age in those. I mean, one of the failed controllers was just that; it went through two batteries before I realized it was time to throw it into my supply cabinet. The other had extreme drift which even upon a few repair attempts would just revert back. This is nothing against Sony controls though. I mean, nearly every wireless control I've owned seems to get mild drift. Most are fixable (especially PowerA or other 3rd-party brands I've toyed around with).

I had to format my drive to FAT32, in case you didn't know. Apparently PS3 doesn't recognize the newer formats, like ex-FAT or NTFS. Besides that, switching out the drive is very simple. Actually never thought about it since I checked a video from YouTube where they recommended it. It makes the PS3 a little bit more modern 😊

Same here. I've gone through three Dualshock 3s, one with faulty sticks, and two with dying batteries. I also don't like the form factor, I think they are too small, especially after I fell in love with Dualsense, which I think is Sonys best controller to date. I can't believe how I stood out with DS3 for the entire PS3-generation. Retro Fighters however are of great quality. They provide other controllers too for retro gaming, such as for Dreamcast or OG Xbox if you're into that.

On my PS5, I've set my kid up with a child account. She's 11.

It's blocking her from playing a lot of games- Tekken 8 demo for eg.

I'm trying to work out how to remove these restrictions but under the age of profile it won't let me change them.

Is there really no way to change these apart from deleting the profile and starting again - thus losing any purchases made on her account in the process???

This seems utterly ridiculous.

Sole things can't change but maybe you can reduce the limitations? Never got that problem so I can't really help you. I hope that the link will be enough.

So no, it goes off your age when you first register which you can't change and so to remove the age restrictions I need to set her up with a brand new account and lose the purchases and saves. Never heard anything so ridiculous in all my life!

I have the physical ps4 version of cyberpunk, and I own a ps5. I put the disc in to play the digital ps5 version, but I still have the ps4 version on the main interface, and the things tries to install the ps4 version every time I put the disc back in.

Is this normal behaviour, can i do something about it. I hate it D:

It's normal, just pause the installation.

SIEJA is best SIE.

PS Studios Japan also finally coming back with ROTR 2 years after GT7. :messenger_grinning_sweat:
On a side note; I wish this OT was active as the Era one, probably one of the few good things on that forum.

They really are! :D

And yeah, the OT here is sadly deserted, while the one over on the purple forum is very active.
The other good thing they have there is the PS5 performance (backwards compatibility) thread which has been very useful for me in the past.
Other than than that, meh, I vastly prefer GAF. :p

Can someone with a Slim tell me if their console, when positioned horizontally, kinda leans laterally if nudged? I think the plastic stands I got were cut wrong or don't fit correctly. Or is it normal? The console also slides around when I press the eject button (etc).

my PS5 has been running incredibly slow recently 😕 as in the OS itself just crawling, trying to pull up a game can take forever and I've both cleared the system cache & rebuilt the database but that only proved to be a temporary fix that lasted minutes

has anyone else experienced this? I'm gonna restore it to factory settings next in a hope to fix it (just taking forever to back up screenshots and what not)

Sounds like your SSD may be on the fritz. Try restoring database and worse comes to worse, a full clean refresh.

Finally got my Retro Fighters Defender for PS3. It's the wireless BT edition with Six axis support. Took 5 weeks to get it, felt like eternity.

So now I got a brand new controller that's pure bliss to play with and a brand new 1TB SSD installed. I've also purchased almost everything I want from the store. I only need Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and Bounty Hunter, and Suikoden 3 & 4 and then I don't have to worry about Sony closing shop.

PS3 gaming has never been better.

Noticed a bunch of installed games in my library had locks on them, figured I would try to restore licenses to see if that fixed it.

Why are platform OTs so dead here? I always get jealous looking at ERA having a very active PlayStation OT, while nothing in GAF.

Might wanna check but I was scrolling through the PS Store and I see that Grandia is currently free I just grabbed it and I'm not even PS+ or anything.

Figured this would be the thread to ask (If I'm in the wrong thread let me know)

I'm looking to buy a Playstation 1, preferably the late model smaller system with the rounded edges. Need a memory card. Dualshock. The full plate. Also will be picking up an HDMI converter.

The list of games Im looking to buy:

Parasite Eve
Alundra
Medal of Honor
Wild 9
MDK
Mega Man Legends
Breath of Fire 4
Die Hard Trilogy
Vagrant Story

My questions is where is the best place to get all of this stuff? Amazon seems like a hit or miss. Is Ebay good enough? Is there a site dedicated to retro purchases that are guaranteed in good shape?

I have a a really good retro game shop about 70 miles from me so that's always an option, but I wanted to check with you guys to see if there was anywhere reliable out there online.

Because its in the Communities section that no one checks, should be moved over to the gaming side

Some interesting insights from Shu here on the categorization of 1st party, 2nd party, and 3rd party exclusives:

CC nial nial you might find these receipts from Shu useful (yeah, I know that you already know, but this time is straight from the horse's mouth).

Former PlayStation boss Shuhei Yoshida outlined the internal PlayStation terminology when it comes to "first party", "second party" and "third party exclusive" titles!

• First party: Sony owned IP published by SIE, including Sony IP games developed by external companies.
• Second party: Games funded/ co-funded and published by SIE, but IP is not owned by Sony.
• Third party exclusive: Exclusive titles not published by SIE. PlayStation refer to as "Partner titles"
Some examples:

First party: includes Helldivers 2, Returnal etc.

Second Party: Stellar Blade, Rise of the Ronin, Nioh etc.

Third party exclusive (Partner title): FF16, FF7 Rebirth etc.

I've been thinking about doing the same. Most likely for me I'll just go to a retro store somewhat near me. I was iffy about buying it on amazon or ebay. I'll probably wait until next month though. I might get the snes though instead.

Honestly, these days is better to sort it out as '[publisher] game'. I think being a console manufacturer gives people a different perception to this, but Sony at the end of the day is just a publisher, like say, Square Enix.
Which is why they can do things like picking up a project that had already started development like Stellar Blade, and that wouldn't change it ultimately being a Sony game. If it were Square Enix instead, I don't think anyone would have had any problem in calling it a Square Enix game.

Given the new wave of "graphic remakes" using UE5 over the old engine (NG2 Black, Oblivion, MGS Delta...), a lot of them outsorced to cheapear and external studios, don't you think Bluepoint it's in a rough spot?

They've seen their latest project canceled; their remake work -excelenct, of course- relies on a proprietary engine that couldn't be as versatile as UE5 for this new type of remake... I don't know, I feel like if is Sony is tempted to give this treatment to Bloodborne, Uncharted 1, 2 or 3, for example, for a quick ROI they could start to see BP like a redundant studio as far as they can outsorced this proyects to cheaper studios.

I'm blaming, first of all, to Sony mismanagement. If you buy a specialized studio in porting and making remakes, don't put them to do "original content". You have other studios for that.

Bluepoint isn't in a rough spot at all. They mentioned that with the acquisition they moved away from making remasters and remake and evolved instead to become a support team of new games, as they did in God of War Ragnarok. In theory Bluepoint won't do more remasters or remakes.

Being a (mostly art) support team, if the game they were supporting got cancelled (something that from time to time happens in all game companies, isn't something rare or bad), Sony will just assign them to support another new game they have in the works. They aren't in trouble at all.

Btw, Bluepoint never has been working in their own game and can't do it because they don't have and never had the staff in the key positions to lead a AAA project, and even less a GaaS title. They'll continue being a support team at least for several years.

In addition to this, most of the Bluepoint talent came there from making top new games at places like Retro Studios (the 3 Metroid Prime games, Donkey Kong Returns, Mario Kart 7), Blizzard (Diablo II, WoW), Naughty Dog, Insomniac. So it was a waste to have them making remasters or remakes, and pretty likely they were tired of doing so.

Sony also bought Nixxes, who in addition to PC ports will also make remasters, as did with Horizon Zero Dawn.

This is absurd. And who is remaking Bloodborne for PS6 or wherever? I you buy specializes porting studios like Nixxes, you keep them porting. If you buy a studio specialized in remaking games, you keep them remaking games -not indulging their ambitions on "original content"-. This is bad management.

Now, after the failed GoW proyect, is cheaper for Sony to shut Bluepoint down and outsource Bloodborne remake or whatever to Virtuos.

Who said that somebody is remaking Bloodborne?

The only think mentioned about this was Miyazaki saying that he see no point on remaking/remastering a PS4 game for PS5, that he thinks it'd make more sense to keep at least a couple generations of difference, as happened with Demon's Souls. Yoshida also mentioned that the lack of remaster/remake may be because Miyazaki likes to keep control of his things, so maybe wanted to address it himself but now is busy with other more prioritary projects and kept it for later.

And well, as mentioned before most of the Bluepoint devs before joining Bluepoint did work in many top tier games at places like Retro Studios, Blizzard or Naughty Dog. If something, what is a waste is to have that people making remasters and remakes and pretty likely they got tired of that.

They are mostly artists and some coders, so makes more sense to keep them as support team in AAA games, as they did in God of War Ragnarok. A record breaking game that pretty likely sold way more copies than all Bluepoint remasters and remakes combined btw.

They weren't leading any GoW GaaS because they are a support team and don't have -and never had- game directors, creative directors, anybody for all the GaaS specific tasks, don't have a meaty enough coder team and only have under half a dozen designers and missed people in other areas related to lead a AAA game. Sony never would greenlight them such project with the team they have, and called them a support team a few months ago.

If something, they could have been working as support team in a GoW GaaS leaded by some other studio. And if it was the case and got cancelled, Sony will just simply assign them to another project as everybody does with their support teams. They are good at making art, so super likely if that project existed and got cancelled pretty likely wasn't Bluepoint's fault at all. It would be retarded and nonsensical to shut down the studio (that would be mismanagement instead of what they are doing).

Regarding recent remasters and remakes (plus related PC ports), Sony worked with Nixxes, Ballistic Moon (now defunct) or Iron Galaxy. Seems Bend is making the Days Gone one themselves. Regarding Virtuos, it's one of the many outsourcing teams Sony often works with in their projects.

It's been 1 week since Microsoft announced an Xbox game coming to playstation. This is completely unacceptable. I give them 3 day's or we riot.

Question for PS5 owners.

My PS5 dash shows that 4K/120hz support drops color depth to YUV420. Is this a limitation on my cable or display, or does PS5 not support 4K/120hz with full RGB.

And is that the same on Pro?

It's both the PS5/PS5 Pro not able to do it because of bandwidth limitations on the HDMI bus. This is actually something the Xbox has over PS5. PS5 Pro didn't even bother this fix this. For reference, same screen off my PS5 Pro

Edit: Nevermind, I just looked at my screen again, YUV422 is possible. Check your TV port and cable
