Internal resolution 8K, downsampled to 4K on display as PS5 can't natively display at 8K.

This just proves Sony never delivered on the 8k marketing. Now perhaps we can let it go that MS never delivered on series S resolutions advertised. (OK I know some of you won't, but you should since every console ever made overpromised in marketing and underdelivered in real world effect)

8K won't be a thing because movies won't move beyond 4K.
Hollywood isn't mastering anything above 4K because the information you can pull from a 35MM negative doesn't do anything above 5K.
There are 6K cameras (all the Marvel and Star Wars movies are filmed with a 6K IMAX camera) and 8K camera, but everything is being mastered at 4K.

8K TVs are so power-hungry, that they are now about to be banned from the European Union, so does this mean that the quest for higher and higher resolution monitors will now cease? My private 4K TV is in the A+ efficiency category but 8K sets are currently classed as G, so is 8K doomed?

No one cares about 8K and it's clear brands are having a tough time marketing that upgrade from 4k.

You kid, I miss 3d tvs/movies/games/3ds. Wish they would of supported that with a 3ds like glasses free version and not 4k. I am still on 1080p as i play retro games on all the mini consoles, I'm sure all that old stuff looks ass on 4k. A good 3d tv would have 3d optional.

They support 8K TVs, but the content just isn't there. And 8K games are rare.
I don't think any streaming service does 8K, it's just a pointless TV resolution.
Call of Duty output is 4K/120Hz.

8K isn't even a thing right now tbh......no need for them to list it as a selling point, IMO. The same thing happened with 3D tv's, whole lotta nothing.

The worst part of the lack of ANY 8K output support isn't even that PS5's HDMI spec is ill-equipped to do it at a decent chroma resolution.
It's that simpler indie and retro games like Rez Infinite, already released for PS5, could have been PS5 Pro and PS6 'ready' from the day they released. Will developers of those games bother to patch them for Pro/PS6 if Sony doesn't give them some special incentive?
PlayStation leadership learnt very little from PS4 to PS4 Pro to PS5 transitions. Only some games like TLoU Part II (most recently) have decent toggles to take advantage of higher spec displays and consoles.. eventually.

Good. I don't need 8K ever. I will have a Samsung 85inch 8K TV but I would rather use that render budget for almost anything else.
I was actually a little pissed when I discovered that our AV contractor had upgraded the TV to 8K and ordered it without checking from me. Checked some reviews of input lag and they were good so didn't raise a hassle.
