Sony Revolution

If it wasn't a Sony url, I'd think this was the Revolution:

Hmm, that gives me an idea.. i'm not sure if i'll do it, but keep an eye on the IGN boards :lol

Okay combine that with that Eyetoy demo from the sony press conference and you'd have one insanely cool...whatever that is on the planet.

Seriously

I have no idea what this technology is, but it looks freakin' cool. By the way, you guys are delusional if you think GAF and IGN don't share board members.

That looked very neat, and I know it's just UI experiment, but I have to ask what is the purpose of the glass blocks. Seems like the whole thing can be done with just the touch screen, and some selectable options that would draw appropriate graphics on parts of that screen.

I'm not sure, its certainly a neat experiement.

Im still trying to figure out how it reads whats put on it....im guessing thats how it works, reading the text on the bottom of each square and opening the appropriate program...how the hell did it get that image of the phone..it looked like a scan..

My guess is that each tile has a small RF or bluetooth transmitter inside it, in the title bar at the bottom. When placed upon the grid the main system read the X Y cordinates of the tile and displays what the tile asks for in that area. If you take a close look you can see in the bottom left corner of each tile it looks like something is embedded. I'm guessing that's the bluetooth transmitter.

As for the phone, that's where I got the idea that everything is running on bluetooth.

What's really cool about the interface is that if two tiles are next to each other they will interact. The "Time Machine" tile is being used to look at the weather forcast throughout the day, etc.

Don't you know someone who knows what functions a computer can do, but can never retain how to access any of those functions? Knows what a picture is, knows what an email is, but doesn't know how to email a picture?

This interface would take large function concepts like Map and Shop and allow the user to hold them in their hand. The computer's abilites become physical blocks, and thus easily comprehendable, especially for combination functions.

They don't have to know how to access an online store and manage a MP3 player. They can just plop down a Music tile, plop down their MP3 player, then drag the album across to purchase and download it.

I imagine the interfaces on a tile by tile basis will remain much as they are now, with a stylus to drag, scroll, and click, which is fine as I believe most users can use these interfaces easily once they are presented to them.

It does seem very dependant on proprietary support, and the functionality, as I understand it, is limited by the amount of tiles you own.

Wouldn't it suck if you lost the tile that you need? The software is still all there, but your friendly way of accessing it is gone. Big flaw, I think.

Still doesn't really help someone who doesn't even know what a computer can be used for, but this kinda thing would be great for my mom.

Seen this a LONG time ago, the part with the laptop dragging files onto the desk and onto another laptop or handheld is done by a camera that is above the table and it projects a picture onto the desk and sends the information to whichever platform it interacts with, but there's like a set of 2-3 cameras watching your every move. . Those videos are at least 3 years old... I remember watching these when I was at my old home.

Come on, that's gotta be fake.

I exclusively provided it for Suikoguy's greater purpose as indicated :D

But for what it's worth, I personally took that picture in a presentation hosted by Nintendo.
