Sony WWS output thus far.

A Metascore below 90 is bad, it's as simple as that. If you're not above that 90 mark, you cannot pretend that you're good. That's the line, and it's been drawn in the sand.

Ufff... what a STUPID, stupid sentence.

But, if you go that route, then Xbox One really sucks, because they have only TWO games on 90 or above on Metacritic: Pinball FX 2 (91) and Rayman Legends (91).

http://www.metacritic.com/browse/games/score/metascore/all/xboxone?sort=desc

PS4, in other hand, have FIVE: The Last of Us: Remastered (95), Flower (91), Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition (90), Rayman Legends (90) and Fez (90).

/ edit:

Well... it was a "sarcastic" post it seems... that explains it. Problem is... there are people who really think that way... I've read worst things here on GAF.

The only three games that count on this list are Killzone, Knack, and Infamous. No point counting the others which are basically non-games.

So, they've made one okay game in Infamous, and two terrible games. Knack probably made some people want to kill themselves, it was probably that bad.

Your post had a similar effect on me.

He's being sarcastic.

I do think Sony's titles in this gen have been less-than-stellar, and that's pretty disappointing. They always have such great games, and they still haven't had that one, universally acclaimed, new game for PS4. I don't think any of them have been bad, so that's cool, but no new games are just straight-up great.

All or most of the titles looking forward (except maybe The Order) seem to be a step up, like Bloodborne, Rime, Uncharted A Thief's End, etc. I haven't even gotten close to losing hope for their first party, but it's a somewhat shaky start, to be sure.

It still "amuses" me that Cerny made so far the worst first party title and one of the worst PS4 titles. Remember the really weird obsession many Gaffers had with him?

Is last gen gonna repeat itself?
Sony put out shit for the first year and a half.
Finished strong.

Ms put out good games for half a gen then graced us with shovelware for the rest of it.

That's why I'm still holding off buying a PS4.
I played its best games on PS3 already.
All the current exclusive are clearly skippable i.e : ok games but you don't miss out on anything.

Sony WWS has been shockingly mediocre so far this gen with regards to AAA titles.

Knack?
KZ: SF?
Drive Club?
Order 1886? (so much negativity around this one, will likely review poorly)

The only one that scored well was I:SS, but even that paled in comparison to other
Infamous games. Then we have TLoU:R, but that's a last gen port.

Personally, Sony so far has become synonymous with the "style over substance" saying,
like we get it: the PS4 is capable of great graphics, but it seems to come at the expense
of compelling/substantial gameplay!

Complete props to Nintendo and MS for putting out worthwhile titles this year which
will no doubt succeed critically and commercially
What has MS released this year that is no doubt a success critically and commercially?

Alright. I scanned the entirety of the 2014 in Gaming Wikipedia page which lists all of the games released on all platforms for this year. From what I can gather, Microsoft First Party has released three games this year thus far:

Kinect Sports Rivals
http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-one/kinect-sports-rivals

Forza Horizon 2
http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-one/forza-horizon-2

Project Spark
Are there any reviews for this yet? Says it releases today.

The rest of the year has:

Killer Instinct Season 2 - though I'm hesitant to really count this considering it's just additions to a game that actually released in 2013. It's not "Killer Instinct 2". I doubt it's going to be re-reviewed for some additions.

Halo: Master Chief Collection - a very good value, but it's still a remaster of existing games that came out prior to 2014. If TLOU counts as one of PS4's biggest games, than this Collection will most certainly count as well.

Seems about even with what Sony WWS have released this year.

It's the start of the generation, they had to get the games out in a shorter timespan, and for the record, I think Second Son is absolutely brilliant.

They have lacked quality though, Killzone is the biggest disappointment, because it's gorgeous, clearly a lot of work went into that game, that could have been spent elsewhere on something that wasn't utterly bland and boring.

Same with DriveClub, I'd have much preferred if they spent that time on another MotorStorm, or a similar game.

Haven't played Knack.

Titanfall? Horizon 2? Sunset?

You know what all these games seemingly have in common? Great gameplay.

Driveclub has great gameplay : The AI is good, the physics model robust, the tracks layout excellent and it is a joy to drive cars that procure such sensations. The issue that has been raised by some reviewers is that of content...not gameplay.

Why are you stealing Endo punk and kenshin (? I think) shtick, op?

Yeah that pretty much is my shtick. I think Yoshida is doing a terrible job of running WWS and wish someone who has a background of making great games would be in the position instead of him. Phil Harrison helped establish a few successful franchises on PS3 during his tenure but Yoshida has failed so far on PS4. There is a lot of talent at the studios for sure. ND and MM are consistent but the others need some guidance and that won't come from him.

Aaaahahaha. Fun fact: Yoshida made an attempt on his life immediately after streaming a Knack playthrough on PS4 launch day.
MS has the best games by far. My PS4 is collecting dust since TLOUR and it's a last gen game.
Can I inquire about what's come out for the XB1 since then that's so incredibly compelling? First-party or a superior quality third-party.

Uh, I don't think that's accurate. Just listened to Giantbomb's quick look and Gerstmann hates the way the cars handle. He literally said "the cars aren't fun to drive".

MLB 14 The Show is not a Sony WWS game? Or did you forgot that game because it didn't find your agenda?

Check his post history and the truth will soon be revealed.

I totally agree with this... as I've been seeing him in the DC thread with his #concerns. The thing is the mods are now pretty strict especially with the DC l OT thread so I guess now with this thread he found a way to "vent" as he called it.

Lol I knew it. I smelled a thread like this the moment I closed the browser window on the Driveclub review thread. Jesus H Christ

Was 360 only last gen, so TLOU:R was hardly a mere port for me. Rather, it was the best single player experience I have had in years.

I disagree. Sony is getting a lot of unjustified hate because of its marketing. The more successful something becomes, the more hate it gets, easy internet math.

Also, let's see the entire picture.

Japan Studio released Puppeteer, Soul Sacrifice and Rain in 2013, Freedom Wars in 2014, now they're on Bloodborne and something else I don't remember (and TLG, right?)
Quantic Dream released Beyond in 2013, they're now working on PS4.
Naughty Dog released TLOU in 2013, the DLC in February 2014, TLOU:R this summer. Now they're on Uncharted 4.
Poliphony Digital released GT6 at the end of 2013, we all know they're on GT7 for PS4.
Pixelopus, the newest team, released Entiwned this summer.
San Diego released MLB 13 and 14 in 2013 and 2014.
Santa Monica released GoW Ascension in 2013. Now they're on something big (GoW 4?) and they're collaborating for a couple of titles.
Evolution Studio is going to release Driveclub.
Guerrilla Cambridge released Killzone: Mercenary in 2013.
Media Molecule released Tearaway in 2013, they're now on the port for PS4 and probably something else.

Studios that didn't release anything in 2013 (and/or 2012) are the ones that covered the launch window...
Sucker Punch, that released Second Son and the DLC First Light.
Guerrilla Games with Shadow Fall. We know they're now on Horizon.
...together with Knack from Japan Studio and the demo Playroom from London Studio.

From the second party there's a good activity as well, with Resogun (Housemarque) and The Order (Ready at Dawn) as well as others I don't remember.

The team we know nothing about is Bend Studio.

I'd say this is a pretty good output for such a young first party group, compared to the huge one that has Nintendo for obvious historical reasons.
So, what about, I don't know.. give them time? With Vita out of the wa (sorry Vita fans), the resources are going in one single direction, and tha't the PS4 (and Morpheus maybe).

Quality wise, to answer the topic, I'm pretty satisfied. I don't look at launch titles as they're there to give something to play, sometimes they seem to be more tech demos than real games. I'm aware of that, this is why I'm confident that from 2015 quality will raise on all consoles.

A great post like this needs to be illustrated with pictures/thumbnails with dates on them. Sadly it is the only way most people will get it. 100% Agree.

Uh, I don't think that's accurate. Just listened to Giantbomb's quick look and Gerstmann hates the way the cars handle. He literally said "the cars aren't fun to drive".

I think it's accurate based on the vast majority of players AND reviewers' impressions. But since Gerstmann said the opposite, the rest of the voices must be wrong...

Sony WWS has been shockingly mediocre so far this gen with regards to AAA titles.

I agree on the mediocre part for the games so far as regards output, the exclusive release dates are very sparse at the moment... but the games they have released have been good/ok. You can't predict that the MS and Nintendo games will have critical success. They may not.

The PS4 output on games would leave me pretty disappointed if I was a one console owner. I was pumped for Driveclub, but the review thread has shocked me. I'll play it later and see for myself.

Titanfall, FH2, D4.

Also Sunset OD is coming later this month and Halo:MCC the next.

What Sony got? LBP 3?

So you disdain TLOU:R for being a last gen game but are hyped for Halo:MCC a collection of last gen and two gen ago games. I hope you realize how inconsistent that looks.

Titanfall nor D4 are appropriate for this thread and neither is Sunset.

Lol too good.

All anyone has to do is look to 2015 to see that the PS4 doesn't have anything to worry about regarding exclusives

First Party
Uncharted 4
Bloodborne
The Order
Ratchet and Clank Redux
Tearaway Unfolded
Until Dawn
MLB 15
Alienation
Rime
Tomorrow Children
Remasters and Ports

Guerilla RPG?
Sony Bend game?
Gran Turismo 7?
Quantic Dream game?
Japan Studio?
The Last Guardian?
lol

Indies and Third Party Exclusives
No Mans Sky
The Witness
Persona 5
Disgaea 5
Deep Down

And a bunch more console or Sony platform exclusives as well.

It's weird. When it comes to the lists why do people selectively count games and flat-out ignore some games? Downloadable games, games that are on PC, and remasters now counts for one side but not for the others? The true intentions becomes crystal clear when you do this.

Yeah pretty much. Hey lets not count TLOU:R but hey lets go list Halo:MCC because fuck it, reasons.

Because we all know it's very important that the studio who made the game be owned by the console maker. Lots of people will walk into a store this fall, see Sunset Overdrive on the shelf, and turn away in disgust, because Insomniac isn't owned by Microsoft. It's just gross.

Posted in the other thread...

I like their output so far:

Bt48WHu.png

But it's important to leave off most of those games because reasons. Ps4 has no games!

Do you really think the average person cares whether the studios who make these games are owned by Microsoft or Sony? All most people care about is "where can I play that game"? When you remove the special rules from the conversation, the XB1's first year lineup was very strong.

Oh, I agree with you. The average person doesn't care.

We're not average people though. We're on a gaming forum in a thread specifically asking about one console manufacturers output. I was just stacking up Microsoft's first party to Sony and seeing that they're about equal in terms of ouput and quality. In my opinion, neither studio has really killed it outside of a couple of titles thus far from a first party standard.

Edit: For the record, I don't have any of the 8th gen consoles yet. What I've seen from Sony coming in 2015 has peaked my interest, so I'm leaning heavily towards getting a PS4 in February for Bloodborne. I hope Rime comes out relatively soon after 'cause that's the second game I'm really interested in.

I meant that the only game i enjoyed and worth playing so far is TLOUR.

TF, D4 and Sunset count. they are all exclusives.

I've stopped playing games that don't get above a 95% on Metacritic. Been the best choice of my life! Really hope I can get a game to play again someday though.

Look at his post history. Super crystal clear. He displays little interest in DC other than to shit up threads with #concern then pops into the review thread for a game he's not interested in to reaffirm his concern. I don't know about you guys, but when I don't care about something, I typically don't post in threads about it.

Honestly I'm not big on most of the Playstation exclusives from last gen anyway. I don't expect to get a lot of great first party titles out of my PS4.

Titanfall, FH2, D4.

Also Sunset OD is coming later this month and Halo:MCC the next.

Why does Halo count lol, it's a collection of old games. I think it's Sony with inFamous SS & possibly LBP 3 for good games while MS has Titanfall, FH2, D4 & possibly Sunset. I'd definitely say MS takes this year in terms of games vs Sony but not because they're amazing. They've been solid, Sony has just been shite. Yes, their output in 2013 was crazy, it doesn't change that their output was bad this year.

The last games haven't released yet, but this is my ranking for the year:
Wii U - A-
MS - B
Sony - C-

EDIT: Forgot about MLB 14. Not my kind of game, but people enjoy it. So maybe below average with C to C+ for Sony.

Haven't played Driveclub, and it's premature to say Order 1886 is bad (though the story >> gameplay thing isn't comforting), but I agree. Hoping 2015 pulls out some big guns. It's still a lot better than ps3's first year, but that doesn't bring me a lot of comfort.

I do like Infamous: SS, but it was too short.
