Dusk Golem: Resident Evil Requiem has Capcom biggest budget for any of their projects thus far, new info and screenshots

Im a Resident evil fan but this looks way to much like Re7, so my interest as never been lower
Out of all the RE Engine RE games, RE7 would also be my least favorite one too but this should at the very least still be better than RE7. RE7 had a pretty bad variety of enemies, unskippable cutscenes, no ingame cutscene for the protagonist, lame ass antagonists with the infected redneck family and a bad final boss, plus the setting isn't that great either. In the best case scenario RE9 becomes one if not the best RE game but even in the worse case scenario it'll still be better than RE7.

hopefully you are right!
Re7 dint feel like a Re game at all, if I want to play a Outlast ripoff I would play Outlast...Re7 is far from a bad game! so yeah, hopefully Re9 is more Resident evil than Outlast , I was expecting Re9 to be more like Re4 because of the supposedly leaks back than...clearly not

RE1 - 1996
RE2 - 1998
RE3 - 1999
RE Survivor - 2000
RE Code Veronica - 2000
RE Survivor 2 - 2001
RE Gaiden - 2001
REmake -2002
RE0 - 2002
RE Dead Aim - 2003
RE Outbreak - 2003
RE Outbreak 2 - 2004
RE4 - 2005

Many of those games listed are good, great, and genre defining.

Maybe I'll approach this from a different angle then. The ceiling for quality in the RE1 - RE4 era was leagues higher than everything that came out between RE4 and RE7.

I don't have the negativity towards a lot of the franchise others do but people do not hold most of that run between RE3 and RE4 in high regards (other than REmake).

There was rougly 5 and a half years between RE3 and RE4, and between that time we got Code Veronica and Zero (good but flawed entries), and REmake, which often is regarded as the greatest Survival Horror game ever made. Juxtapose that with the wait between RE4 and RE7, there was 12 years. Over twice as long. Not to mention during that time, nothing that came out was close to the level of quality we got from the previous games (I mean the really good entries. Obviously Re5 is better than Dead Aim for example). It was just a longer and darker period of time for the franchise.

Yeah RE7 tried leaning too much into the horror and slow pace side when the original RE1 to 3 trilogy was never that slow and always had a good mix of horror and action combined. I personally hope RE9 is more like RE2 Remake with the action and horror balance.

Outbreak 1 and 2 were amazing and way ahead of it's time. Just a shame that online gaming on the PS2 was really small and unpopular. Had tons of fun with them even with bots which sometimes does do some cool and hekpful things or at the very least they did enough to add to the immersion and illusion that I had 3 other survivors with me all doing their own thing. A Outbreak Remake or Outbreak 3 using the style and mechanics of RE2R to RE4R would do wonders today.

I can say the same about your list. Well, other than genre defining seeing as genres have been pretty well defined.

This whole thing started because you said RE7 was when RE got good again and me replying that RE was always good, just sometimes less good. I do NOT see some "dark period" of the franchise as I enjoy nearly every game that we've posted.

one thing that cannot be argued. RE7 is when Resident Evil got good again
This is me arguing. RE7 isn't when it "got good" again. It was when the franchise shifted away from the more action oriented style started by RE4. The franchise was getting stale and needed a refresh/different direction just like it did when RE4 came out. Resident Evil was always good.

I'm not ready for a Leon send off. I want my boy in every RE game.

Top comments are right though. They don't have the balls to kill Leon.
They won't kill off Leon but they need to give him a rest. Oversaturated character in the franchise. And wherever Leon goes Ada isn't too far behind.

Your argument is basically "Well in MY opinion some of those games between RE4 - RE7 were great". That's fine if it's you opinion. I'm not looking to change your personal taste. I'm aware that on a case by case basis, people aren't going to all like the same thing. But general sentiment from fans is that particular period of time was not looked back fondly on. Certaintly not compared to the 96-2005 and 2017 - Present eras. That is the consensus.

As an aside, RE7 wasn't just a refresh/different direction. It was a return to the roots of what Resident Evil started as.

Its all opinion dude. The only consensus you might get is that RE6 was bad, bloated or the wrong direction for the franchise.

Sounds like a refresh to me.

My opinion in RE7 is better than I thought even tho I don't like first person, but I still don't like it's first person combat and those mole monster are just boring as fuck even worse than enemies in RE Revelation.

Sounds like a refresh to me.

Both things can be true. It can be a refresh, and a return to series roots. There have been notable heads over at Capcom that have outright said there was a lot of fan outcry to bring Resident Evil back to being a Survival Horror. Why was there a lot of fan outcry? Because a lot of them were unhappy with the quality of the games and the direction of the series. And Capcom had enough data to confirm there were problems, and so they responded accordingly.

My opinion in RE7 is better than I thought even tho I don't like first person, but I still don't like it's first person combat and those mole monster are just boring as fuck even worse than enemies in RE Revelation.

The game definitely lacks enemy variety, but I will say that I also first played that game in VR, and those things were absolutely terrifying to encounter in VR mode. Especially if it's your first playthrough. For me it's the only entry that actually manages to be scary.
