HDR impacts tv's differently depending on their core components and settings.
Yes you can turn off HDR to reduce lag but some tv's have bad lag before HDR is even on.
Some tv's have a game mode that can run at the same time as HDR as well.

Am way too tired to write much tonight, but I got my X800D in tonight and got it set up. Not someone who has really ever owned high end TVs so I am probably an easier mark for this, but I am pretty blown away and that is just from hooking up the PS4. I am going to wind up wasting my weekend just finding stuff to look at. Really surprised at how well it handles the 1080p PS4 source, Destiny and SFV looked amazing compared to the MX279H I had it hooked up to before. Have not so far been able to perceive the increased input lag whatsoever either, which I'm very happy with since the MX279H is one of the most responsive 1080p panels currently made.
If I had anything remotely critical to say after my brief spin tonight it is that the viewing angle is noticeably weaker than the IPS in my MX279H; pretty inconsequential for where I am using this set (it literally is serving one chair) but I can definitely tell the difference if I change angles off center. Those that are looking for a set to serve multiple seats may want to see this set in person before committing.

Picked up the 49" UK model yesterday and so far I'm really impressed. Gone from an LG 'fauxK' and the difference on that front is astronomical. Pleased with how it handles the PS3 too.
I also wish I hadn't read the comments about calibrating TVs because now I'm driving myself mad trying to work out if I prefer contrast at 48 or 49 😂😂
Anyone any general tips on that front?

Got mine about two weeks ago and yeah it's super impressive, at least someone used to playing on TVs smaller than 30 inches. 1080p content looks way sharper on it, its like going from a 480i to a 720p last gen.

My situation going from my current 1080p TV (which I've had for 8 years) looking to buy a 49 inch model:
X800D
-Will be a big step up in PQ, Colors etc from my current TV
-Appropriately priced in accordance with the exchange rate ($1100 CAD, ~$50 more than exchange rate value)
-Android OS that has better functions than Tizen, and likely to be a real asset if the TV is moved out of my room.
-Edge lit, no local dimming, worse black performance than KS8000, but still way better than what I have currently

-Massive step up in PQ, Colors etc from my current TV
-Overpriced. $2300 CAD
-Edge lit, with some local dimming, better black performance than X800D, way better than what I have currently.
-Will have to buy a third party base for the TV ($70-120 for a decent one) due to the one that comes with the tv not being doable with my setup (the edges of the TV are going to be hanging past the edges of the stand itself, and since this has the two feet that are close to each edge, just not doable.
Even during black friday, I think the price difference is going to remain similar,X800D maybe going down to 800, and the KS8000 at most going down to 1600 (which will become 1700 with the stand).
My mind at this point is going, get the 49x800d, because this is a TV for my bedroom, it's going to cost about half of what the KS8000 costs, and the KS8000 despite being better in dimming, having better blacks, and color, is still an edge lit TV. If the price difference was more similar to how it is in the US or if at this price difference that is currently happening in Canada, KS8000 was offering full array backlighting, I'd probably go for the KS8000.
At this point I'll intend to use the 49x800d for the next 4-5 years and by then backlighting tech should have improved greatly, and sets with great backlighting/dimming will be more affordable/standard. Of course, it'd be best if OLEDs picked up popularity/became more affordable, but for some reason I have a feeling that won't happen.
Edit: A week from now, you'll probably see me leaning towards the KS8000 again. LOL.

It was £899 in Argos. 90% sure Amazon have it for less but dat 12 months interest free.

Generally the contrast should be near max on a newer TV like this. The 43" model I got in last night defaulted to 90 but still wasn't clipping whites at max, and if your set is the same it should probably be set somewhere between 90 and max as well.
I can get the 50w800c for about $200 less than the 49x800D. The w800c is 120hz native and has very good 3d but is only 1080p. Is 4k warranted?

The x800d obviously is more future proof qith 10bit HDR and 4k, but it seems it isn't really robust. I remember when the XBR line was flagship in all sizes and yet these are cheap 60 hz panels, edge lit etc.

I'm looking at the 43inch variant in the UK and am just wondering what kind of input lag I should expect?
Also, and forgive my ignorance, will upgrading to a 4K set have any negative impact on games running at 1080p? Will it make games look any worse?
I don't know much about TV tech, so any help would be appreciated.
(I've got a an XBO S coming in the next week and plan on getting a Pro too so I'm just weighing everything up)

it is likely to be crap without soundbar.
i believe it is has 36ms with 4K and HDR, which is lowest you can get... it should be great gaming tv.
It's the 55" model obviously, so the 43" reviews aren't necessarily applicable.
But yeah, it's indeed the 55" version of the TV that this thread is about.
It doesn't sound too hot to me. Servicable but not good.

Saying that, I've just checked my own TV which boasts just 14ms of input lag. Not sure I want to give that up (particularly as I like to play MP).
Will I notice the increase?
the 4K HDR input lag measured came out to 33.2 at rtings.com
And as for whether you'll notice or not, varies from person to person. Most people won't notice a ~33ms input lag. Some people don't even have an issue with 50+ ms of input lag. Also, curious, what is your current TV model and where did you get the input lag measurements for it?

So then I played Tomb Raider 2 Android with my Dualshock 4.
It's pretty freaking awesome.
Tomb Raider 1 didn't seem to work right with the DS4 though, but the TV Android update might've fixed that already, because it works with Tomb Raider 2.
Only thing I kinda wish I got the 55 inch one now. But I can always buy another one in the future and put this in my bedroom.

And after three years and numerous 50+ hour weeks, I'm still poor. lol
Like I said above, I'm looking to get in on the 4K+HDR revolution but I'm wondering if I should wait. Not sure my money will fetch me quite what I want.

The low refreh rate seems to be one of the only negative aspects, just wanna make sure Ill do the right thing when I pull the trigger.

850D is much worse in lag... 800 is much better for gaming, probably the only Sony screen right now thats really good for gaming. If i remember correctly, this TV had excellent motion rating.

Umm 33ms of input lag isn't low at all.
Yeah, the TV you got seems great, and is the product of being a "late gen" 1080p tv, where it could be affordable while providing great quality. If you're looking for a 4k equivalent of that while being priced similar to this set, I suggest waiting.
For monitors, yeah it's not, for TVs, especially running in 4K+HDR, it is.
Coming from a 3ms total lag (I think) Gsync monitor, I can't really say I've been feeling any disconnect when playing on the TV at 4k60 tbh. Of course this perception is subjective but I'm pretty sure this is one of the lower latency 4K HDR sets on the market right now. Read about some Samsung at ~22ms but nothing below that at 4K/HDR game mode.
Might feel worse at 30fps but I'll test that with Forza next week in HDR mode.

Too bad. I was thinking about using it as a pc monitor; I'll never leave gsync, but 120hz (very doable at 1080p) could alleviate some of the headache.
Maybe I can find a way to mount it as a secondary display xD

There are no 1080p or higher monitors currently being sold that I have seen tested at less than 9ms.

There are TV's as low as 8ms and there are 4K ones with 19ms, so either way, this is not the 4K gaming TV we have all been waiting for.
