Same, does it not go on sale much because they realize it is a high demand item for the bedroom and most 40-43 inch TVs don't do HDR well? Meanwhile, there are a TON of alternatives at 55 and 65 inch sizes. I think 49 or 55 inch would really be too large for my home office/bedroom loft so I am stuck looking at 40-43 inch only.

To get game mode, click the action menu button when on your TV not on an app, then goto picture adjustments. Other than this two more things, goto settings and turn on enhanced HDMI, also make sure your console is plugged into HDMI 2or3 to fully utilize HDR.
I did that but under picture mode, the only options i get are Vivid, Standard, Custom, Cinema Pro, Cinema Home, Sports, and Animation
Edit: Okay yeah I had to make sure I was on the HDMI input to be able to change it. Thanks.

I am planning on getting the 49" Sony 4k HDR set soon, and the eventual PS4 Pro, and am looking to find out if either of these receivers will pass through the 4k and HDR signals to the TV...

This is one of the better bang for the buck 4k and HDR televisions. At 49" for $650 is a great price. You won't see much 1080p difference over your Vizio but the goal is 4K and HDR so be prepared to be blown away coming from the Vizio.
You are possibly doing the picture menu when you are in apps ie. Netflix. They don't give you game mode for internal viewing like apps. Otherwise when you are viewing your console or set top cable box you will be able to select game mode.
Best settings really depends on what you like. Rtings goes for color accuracy and pitch black room viewing mostly for movies.

its on sale for the same price as the 43.
Both of these will work. I prefer Denon, and have been using the x1300. Was $500 bucks on sale.

So other than people telling those to use HDMI 2 or 3 for 4k w/HDR (HDMI 1 doesn't even do 4k @ 60, which would be a problem for games like Titanfall 2 or CoD Infinite Warfare).
When you set your Sony 800D in the setttings -> input -> enchance HDMI ports. It didn't work the first time. The PS4 still had the 2160p RGB setting greyed out. The 2160p YUV
setting was there, but that only does HDR up to 2k, not HDR up to 4k.
I had to try to toggle it on and off again in the TV's settings, then the PS4 showed both 2160p settings (YUV and RGB) available. From there of course, you put it on auto. And on auto, it seems the PS4 Pro wants RGB, you know that by checking the video output information. (which is super helpful and I'm glad Sony put it in there for the Pro).

You want to use HDMI 2 or HDMI 3 port. I think HDMI 4 is missing some enhanced feature or something.
Awesome, really really tempted to just pull the trigger. I guess the last thing I have to ask is how is the HDR quality on this set for those that have it? I've had a 1440 monitor for awhile on my pc so I'm used to slightly higher res so I'm more curious about the HDR enhancements. I should probably go in store to see some HDR displays but I'm pretty set on this one at 49in just based on the price and everyone's general compliments.

It takes some calibrating, but it looks noticeably better than without HDR. Haven't seen any other sets to compare it with though.
The Man in the High Castle shows it off well if you have Amazon Prime. ("Free" for Prime users.)
It's wizardry basically lol, FRC allows Sony to keep the cost down using an 8 bit panel while introducing more colors with "magic". It still has WCG.
Cool, it sounds like 4k and HDR are definitely worth the upgrade at this price. Is there a guide to what streamable content is 4k and HDR across hulu/netflix/HBO etc?

Just wait a bit longer if you already have a decent 1080p set. There is not much choice right now so you have to make compromises. Early 2017 we should see a good number of excellent sets to choose from

I had the same issue, so I just forced the power off to my TV by holding power button on remote for like 10 seconds and powering off the ps4 and it resolved it.

As long as it has 2.2 it will pass HDR signal.

It is a 10 bit panel, not 8 bit. Rtings made a mistake when they first reviewed and people have just run off of that. The televisions with 8 bit panels are the X700D and the Samsung 6300 which do not have wide color gamuts but can still give you HDR10 etc.
The X800D has a 10 bit panel, not 8 bit with FRC.

Why the hell does the onkyo only allow banana for two inputs......da fuq is that! Banana clip or die, is easily take the Sony one even if I never use 7.1. The system will automatically detect whether or not it will use 5.1 or 7.1
You have to upgrade to the 500 series for Onkyo to be any good. Their ultra cheap receivers generally suck. Even the mid range Onkyo's aren't very good nowadays, especially with their utter crap advertising practice - i.e, advertising the watts per channel at 6 ohms when everyone actually uses 8 ohms. Suddenly their 140 watt per channel receiver becomes 80 watts per channel, while competitors like Yamaha or Denon offer 90-100 watts per channel (8 Ohm) for a similar price range.
Pretty sad to hear, my $300 onkyo receiver I bought years ago (only 1080p 3D one) was absolutely outstanding. 7 HDMI inputs, Spotify built in, fantastic setup and sound. Kind of disappointing to hear how they have fallen

there are a decent number of good sets. Of course things should be more mature next year, but then prices will be high until around this time next year, and brexit might mean higher prices generally. I'd argue now is a pretty ok time to buy something.

I think I remember someone on here saying the 49" is worse because it has an IPS panel vs a VA panel for the 43".
But I don't know why that is. Viewing angles maybe? I'm not sure whether to order it. I'm still hoping the 43" goes on sale.
Edit: Some site says viewing angles good on IPS so I don't know. VA apparently has better blacks but IPS has better colour re-production.

I always thought IPS was better mostly from the New 3DS where people played the panel lottery to try get IPS screens
In the case of 3DS it is TN vs IPS, here it's VA 'vs' IPS. VA has better blacks but worse viewing angle, IPS the opposite (in a nutshell).
Viewing angle of the 43" is a non issue for two people watching though. And for anything beyond that, the TV is too small anyway imo
If viewing angles are a priority, you'll want an IPS panel, which is the XBR49X800D. VA panels like in the XBR43X800D will generally have deeper blacks and a much better contrast ratio but a poorer viewing angle. If you get a poor IPS panel like the Sony XBR55X700D, you may notice grayish blacks more.

It's either a bug or strange artistic decision with the game.
You actually see the transition between normal and grey-wash effect at the start of Downtown when starting the generator and going down the lift with Tess and Ellie.
This is incorrect. My STR-DN860 has HDCP 2.2 (2015 model) and can not pass through HDR alongside a 4K signal. This issue is confirmed by several users and reported to Sony support: http://community.sony.com/t5/Home-T...date/td-p/600430/jump-to/first-unread-message
Long story short, even a 2015/2016 model AVR with HDCP 2.2 is no guarantee for full HDR compliance.
