Sony X800D well - reviewed, 4k+HDR TV with low input lag

So anyone have the new Sony 2017 models yet? Like the 9000E and such? What's the improvement?

Wondering this as well. Really itching to buy the 43 inch 800D to upgrade my old Sony KDR from like 2007. It's so cheap and scratches all my wants: 4k, HDR, 10 bit panel, cheap, low input lag. But I can wait until the 17 models come down in price a bit if the improvement is significant enough. Curious about x1 extreme processor chip and what difference it makes specifically for ps4 pro games.

Can someone please help me? All of a sudden when I try to watch something thru my usb stick the tv completely reboots to the android screen. Idk what to do, I've tried two different sticks both of which worked on the tv before today. Really gonna be bummed out if it doesn't just fix itself somehow :/

In what way? My uniformity or clouding whatever has been bugging me since day one.

IPS contrast + your typical IPS glow at angles. Blacks are basically grey. Especially if the room is dark. I'm promising myself that my next TV will be OLED. When I can get one at $1000, I'm probably in. I wouldn't hate having a bedroom TV either.

Mine has a bit of clouding that does bug me a bit, but I've seen worse... plus it's good from a uniformity standpoint. That and it was $650 on sale. Which I mean, I think that's still the cheapest I've seen a 49/50 inch 4K set that does HDR and wide gamut color.

hdmi 1 and 4 do support 4k@60hz Without HDR right? it isnt limited to 30hz on those 2 ports correct? would be nice to know for future usage (only have pc and ps4pro hooked up to it atm @ hdmi 2 and 3)

Hey guys,

Anyone know how to get the YouTube app on the TV to play 4k/60fps content? Or is this a limitation of the app/TV? 4k/30fps works fine though.

im the same.

as soon as oleds are more affordable, whilst still being 43" to fit my cabinet, ill get one.

even on my 43" va panel the blacks arent that good.

On your 43" is your black level set to 0 or 1? Keep that setting low.

Blacks are fantastic on my 43". Its the damn grey's that are not uniform.

Overall the 43" is still a fantastic TV for the price, that I use as a PC monitor/gaming screen, going on 5 months now. :D

its already set as per rtings. which is 1 brightness, with contrast at 100.

ive also tried it at 10 and 98 because a setting of 1 in the daytime results in poor viewing.

I am planning on buying the x800d but have one question.
I always have my TV hooked up to my PC as a second monitor, often with the TV on and a static wallpaper being displayed. Is there any risks to this TV with this sort of usage?

Someone on AVS forum said the X800E (the 17 model of this tv) will have IPS panel on all size options. VA is better for blacks, right? Maybe I should jump in with the 43 inch now instead of waiting.

What's the best place to buy TV's nowadays? I checked out Amazon, even with Prime it's say a 1-2 month shipment time for this TV. I guess next best retail store is Best Buy? Only 15 day return policy though. Usually I would buy something like this at Costco for their 90 day return policy but they don't carry this one. Also, is Square Trade protection plan worth it or the 2 year geek squad one?

No. Burn in is only present with plasmas and OLEDs.

Woah woah can you elaborate? Did he mention a time-frame? Just for your specific store or nationwide?

Canada. I'm in the maratimes so it may be by region?

He said there should be a sale coming soon, said they are on a frequency of about every 2 months, suggested there would be PS4 + TV bundles. Not sure how much I trust that, but I am going to wait a couple weeks just in case.

I cannot elaborate further, or say it's %100 at all, I don't care to be banned if wrong!

The x800d was on sale about a month ago, and I've been waiting to pull the trigger on a sale, since they still carry the previous years model, I assume the x800d will be around a while yet, so at some point there very likely will be a sale.

Just purchased this in 43". Anyone with a Wii U care to share their experiences with this TV? I don't want to get rid of my old TV (32" - 1366 x 768) yet if BOTW will ultimately look better on it...

Current sale in AUS has the 43" for 799AUD, and 49" 999AUD. My current Samsung plasma is pretty much done, so i considered the 43" but instead ended up ordering a 55" KS9000 which i should get shortly.

With so many releases and the Switch coming out soon, smart money would of been on the cheaper Sony, but i got a good deal on the Samsung thankfully.

So, purchased a 49'. Had to return the first once because that dirty effect was way too crazy. Thankfully I did. I see very minor dirty spots but overall much much better. Quality is out of this world. Did a whole play through of RE7 in HDR and just simply amazing. Glad I made the Pro purchase. I think I have my settings pretty straight forward for gaming.

Game Mode
Brightness: 25
Contrast: 90

Color: 49
Color Temp: Neutral

Motionflow On
Clearness: Max

Everything on default really. Any suggestions? HDR autos up to Max brightness which is awesome.

color at 49 kinda souls dull
especially if youve turned off live color
also brightness is actually a combination of backlight and black levels
for hdr games at least id recommend 35+
my black levels are around 35 as well

though this is for the 43" so you should play around with it a bit

turn off motionflow and clearness tbh

yeah those settings are off by quite a bit

brightness as low as you can go.
contrast at 98 or max.

color leave at 50
color temp expert 2 or 1
motionflow off
clearness off
sharpness at 50
turn everything else off

you dont want black levels interfering with the picture
you dont want live color blowing colours out of proportion and ruining hdr content

HDR autos to max brightness for me on the Pro so it's super nice. The color at 49 seems like a good level. Higher and the color has that hint of neon which is kind of obnoxious. Still playing around with settings. Every day is a new settings :D I've yet to try FFXV. I remember DF saying it was one of the best implementations of HDR.

i can push the color to mid 70s till it starts looking bad but that could just be the non ips screen on the 43"

max brightness kinda screws up games like re7 if youre playing with all the lights off
on the other hand 0 backlight totally kills the hdr so dont go with that either....blacks levels in re7 look great with low brightness but it makes the bright highlights that much weaker.

but like i said , all of this may just apply to the 43" and yours may be fine the way youre doing it. i dunno lol.
ive managed to play games with 80+ live color and still look bearable...
maybe i just prefer slight saturation over accuracy.....

expert is for those who have calibration tools,
otherwise it just defaults to a warm image...stay neutral if youre not editing white balance manually

Actually, it's not. Sony labels the Backlight as Brightness, and Black Levels is what Brightness is commonly known as in other TVs.

thats what im saying.....the overall brightness of the picture is impacted by both black levels and brightness, in older tv's these could not be separated but now both the values are separately adjustable...
yes , black levels will adjust your traditional brightness, and what is labelled as brightness is just the backlight intensity

FFXV HDR is the best I've seen so far. I played the majority of the game on my Pro with a 1080p display, which already looked great, but when I picked up my 49 inch model, it blew my mind with the 4K HDR. I am pretty sure Horizon is going to be the new benchmark for 4K HDR, but as of right now I think FFXV is the best example of it.

wildlands has pretty good hdr too..
its subtle but the differences are instantly noticeable .
oddly enough, night looks like crap in both the games with hdr, not sure its BECAUSE of the hdr though but i do think hdr amplifies that effect.
Dont think itll be a problem in horizon though with the kind of lighting it has

a warm image is what you want as that follows the srgb 6500k color temperature and is the industry standard for movies, tv and games.

and expert 1 has the closest to it according to rtings.

at the very least you want to select the warm setting, as anything else is nowhere near srgb.

Hi folks, I might be wrong. But is this the Euro version of the Sony TV this thread is about

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01IF52BE4/

If anyone would be kind enough to let me know if they would recommend this for the Pro and any pros and cons.

Thanks

yes that's the one being discussed. On anything above the 43" the blacks are not as good, but I've honestly had no issues with mine (49"). The HDR looks great although if I believe what I'm told then the Samsung 8000 (US) 7000 (UK) is much better.

Only issues I have are the widespread PS4 Pro black screen issues which happen with both this and the PSVR

cheers

I think for the price I might go for this Sony one

I dont even know what it is, but does this have HDR10?

Yes its the same tv
My recommendations for pro are in the order of money you can spare
1) LG B6 OLED >> Money is a non issue
2) KS8000 >> upwards of $1000 , heavy spending but not extreme
3) X800D >> mid high range

the higher the rank the unqestionably better the tv
anything lower than the last and you will not get a reliable product for 4k hdr, some chinese ones ive heard are much cheaper but i cant vouch for their quality
the ones listed are the best ones in their respective price range for the pro, to my knowledge.

Cons for X800d
: 1) Blacks are weak
2) Peak brightness is considerably less than the other two
3) Great input lag at 4k hdr but not the best only decent otherwise
4) 43" model has a better(VA vs IPS) panel compared to the bigger ones

Pros
1) Excellent Picture quality
2) 10-bit panel/Wide Color Gamut - Basically, excellent color reproduction
3) Has all your basic smart tv apps and plenty of ports
4) Upscaler is better than samsung's so low res content looks considerably cleaner

If you can push to the ks8000 budget , it removes issue Con no.2 and somewhat reduces con.1

Ive got them both and the only game where I can truly tell the difference is re7 because of the blacks since hdr pumps up the brightness(not an issue if hdr is off).
using a pro btw

Ordered! :D It'll no doubt get cancelled, but worth a try.

I was tempted to, but already have the 49" and don't want to risk screwing up others chances of getting it. I'd advise paying for express shipping if you're going for it though. Might slip through before they notice, just hope no-one posts to a deal site else it will get flagged quickly.

Just looking at latest review on company, seems they do misprice stuff

Do not buy from this shop, brought a t.v., was dispatched within an hour then a few hours later was refunded and I thought amazon was bad.

Fingers crossed. I wasn't even going to order a TV until the summer, I've just been following this thread (and other TV related threads on other forums) as I've done some research. 55 inch is far too large for my room too! Was going to get either 43 or 49 inch. But I'm sure I'll cope if this does go through.

I ordered with standard delivery but have just changed to express. This isn't going to be honoured is it?

Hello everyone, I just bought Sony Bravia X850D 55" and I need help setting it for gaming I do have PS4 Pro so HDR gaming is a bonus

Holy shit at that price. Says 9 left in stock. Damn. Gotta think about this.

This indeed seems too good to be true but fingers crossed for you UK folk.
I shortly contemplated ordering it to Germany as a gift but it's a third party seller and bulky good so naaah.

Yeah, i mean...but then again, their feedback is 98 % positive, and there's always a chargeback if stuff gets dicey. I'm just...yeah.

Edit: Well. Yolo. ordered. I'll let you know how it ends.

Edit 2.0: Already preparing for dispatch. errr. Seems unlikely. Plus a couple of recent reviews complain over cancelled orders of tv's with no reason. soooooooooo

mine is still "Preparing to Dispatch"

But the listing is now gone from the site. Any moment now for cancelation

I assume that they have "sold" their stock hence the listing has gone, but hopefully they might not realise the price, thing is they probably will have when all their stock sold in a matter of minutes. Hope you get one :)
