Sony XDEV Japan working on Stellar Blade

While a lot of us correctly assumed this before, this is the first official confirmation of it being the case.

It's worth noting that XDEV is not a single entity, but rather a global group encompassing three different studio departments across USA (previously known as San Mateo Studio), United Kingdom and Japan.

XDEV Japan is situated inside of Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc. (the Japanese branch operating since 1993), and it was originally established in April 2020 as part of the WWS Japan Studio division, before moving on to the current Japanese branch of PlayStation Studios a year later, when it started to expand its production business in other parts of Asia, including South Korea (Stellar Blade) and China (Lost Soul Aside, Convallaria); with all this information corroborated by both Hermen Hulst and several job listings.

Hey guys/gals I've decided to boycott this game because of serious red flags against the Xbox criteria for all modern games. I think it's doomed for the exaggerated body proportions and for being unclear how much % of screen presence is held by different gender and racial indentities.

It's going to be interesting to see how the gameplay fares to something like Nier Automata, since it does seem to have some similarities. Or is it going to be its own thing? I would be fine with a next gen Nier clone but I hope Shift Up has some surprises up its sleeve and flesh out the combat in a unique and exciting way.

Bumping this, now that we know who are the producers of the game. All from PS Studios Japan.
-Kazuma Kizuka, former Japan Studio Internal Development Department producer, previously credited on The Last Guardian, Shadow of the Colossus 2018, Demon's Souls 2020 and Rise of the Ronin.
-Edward Saito, also from Japan Studio IDD, previously credited on Astro's Playroom, Demon's Souls 2020 and Rise of the Ronin (as a producer).
-Junho Lee, who looks like a new employee from SIE, was previously credited on Rise of the Ronin as part of special thanks.
-Arnaud Saint-Martin, senior director on Stellar Blade (and Rise of the Ronin), also from Japan Studio IDD, previously credited on Freedom Wars, The Last Guardian and Astro's Playroom.
Man, this.is literally a Japan Studio game in the same vein of Oreshika, Bloodborne, Everybody's Golf and the like. Even Nicolas Doucet from Team Asobi is part of the special thanks section, and then you have Risa Koizumi (office and operations support), being credited all the way back to Jeanne d'Arc in 2006.

This is a remnant of Studio Japan, along with Team Asobi.

As the European and American XDEV teams did before, the Japanese XDEV Japan branched out from a local gamedev team from where did work (this time Japan Studio) to become their own team with their own office when Japan Studio got restructured.

Now they would be part of the global XDEV team instead of reporting to a local gamedev team. In this case, XDEV Japan now also would be in charge not only of the Sony 2nd party games developed in Japan, but also the ones developed in the rest of Asia. And to achieve that, and to work in more games than before, they were going to grow in a new office.

After restructuring Japan Studio, this external development team worked on Death Stranding Director's Cut, Rise of the Ronin, Stellar Blade or the upcoming Convallaria, Lost Soul Aside, Death Stranding 2 or Physint.

Regarading internal development of Japan Studio, with the restructuring their different internal teams got merged into one of them: Team Asobi, who also got a new office where they are also growing.

Out of topic but thanks for reminding me of Jeanne d'Arc. What a great game!

I was wondering how a studio that last produced some sort of anime waifu game managed to churn out such a high quality product on their first go.

When I saw gameplay of the game, it caught my eye and I wanted to know who these guys are. I don't play mobile games but their hit is Nikke, and it has huge boobs all over so I tried it. Still not into mobile games, but the quality was there in all aspects.
