Both of their most successful NA franchises were announced/revealed at the VGA's where they got TV exposure. GoW3 (who knows why) and The Last of Us.
No doubt they're saving what they're most confident about for December to reveal it there.
It isn't conflicting, but the leaks that it's a fantasy setting has led people to immediately assume RPG when that isn't necessarily true.
To me the biggest suggestion that it's an RPG comes from what they've been doing with the Killzone: Shadow Fall engine. Opening it up, building quest structure into the world. Focusing a previously corridor shooter franchise on those elements implies a need for their PS4 engine to be more expansive than their PS3 engine.
Now maybe that's just a design choice specific to Shadow Fall, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is a "two birds, one stone" equation for GG where Shadow Fall is more open because it not only adds a new wrinkle to the KZ franchise but also advances a lot of the tech needed for an even bigger, more expansive new IP in the oven.
They are going to have a strong focus on the already announced titles, you can be sure of that.
1. Driveclub has a new demo being complied specifically for Gamescom, likely looking to erase the negativity regarding their E3 demo.
2. Killzone: SF's multiplayer is demoing there with 1 hr. groups to demo it. The KZ franchise has always been more successful from a MP standpoint in Europe than the U.S.. This is basically Sony's opening salvo in trying to make KZ:SF into an online shooter tent pole that can battle Titanfall as a system seller (with Planetside 2 as their second candidate, because Sony rarely fires just one arrow at a target if they can help it).
No matter what else they might reveal there will be a strong push for both of these games at Gamescom. They're from European developers, it's only a few months before release, and they've been starving the press on these two titles for a reason. This is the show where they fully introduce them to the public and begin the press walk throughs and heavy media circulation of both titles.
TGS is where you'll likely see more new software, as SCEJ should have quite a few irons in the fire. Allan Becker isn't sitting on his hands over there just watching Cerny make Knack. We might see TLG re-introduced there. We might see the rumored From/Miyazaki collaboration with SCEJ. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a new Gravity Rush from Siren or a new Soul Sacrifice from Inafune. They'll likely have various other partnerships and in-house titles on the way as well. That is our best chance to see a bunch of new IPs pre-launch. In December we'll likely see what Naughty Dog's Uncharted 3 team has been working on at the VGAs.
Other than that you can likely bet on The Order getting it's first really massive blow out at E3 next year. I'd bet on some additional press coverage and maybe some gameplay before then (maybe even at Gamescom) but nothing extensive. Santa Monica's next big IP might make it for Gamescom if it's a late 2014 title. If it's a 2015 title though I wouldn't expect it until next E3. Guerrilla Games' new IP is probably a Gamescom 2014 reveal.
I don't see Sony going the same route as MS and showing off 90% of their in-house projects all at once. Sony feels no pressure to prove a commitment to video games. They'll string out their announcements as it gives them the best media coverage and keeps the image of a software drought from cropping up.

To make the Vita cheaper, they need to use cheaper parts, which to me means LCD because the OLED is still very expensive, around a fifth of the BoM, most expensive single component. The smartphone market has also shown that people don't really give a shit about OLED vs LCD.
So, only 4.5 years?
Guys does anyone know if there will be a stream of any kind for Sony? If so where from?
Agree with all this. I'm hyped as hell for the PS4 but I am still somewhat doubting that Sony can deliver on all the promises and expectations when it comes to the OS, store, remote play, and other system functionality. Gaikai in particular - I fully expect it to be kind of underwhelming, even well after launch. If it works as promised it will be icing on my cake because right now I am not counting on it actually working out. Even without that, though, if they can deliver on the basic OS and online functionality, I'll be happy.after reading all of what GopherD, Famousmortimer, and Verendus have been saying in this thread, i'm not really worried about software support for PS4/Vita anymore. my concern is more of 'what happened to all those Feb event features?'
if i could ask them:
-will a LIVE demo of legit Vita-PS4 remote play be at GC?
-will they show us how the PS store game prediction/autodownload feature works when recommending games?
-will they show us how to replace the HDD?
-are we going to get a full walkthrough of the OS? (even if with the press after the keynote)
-will they show the mobile app? date it?
-will they show us the social features like spectators dropping in items?
-will the streaming features be day-one with video sharing, or is that a gakai technology?
the reason i'm concerned is that sony seems to have a habit of showing us a lot of possibilities, and then not delivering them at launch, and just kind of spreading them out little by little over a long period of time. i'd like as much of what we saw in Feb to be there on launch day as possible.

i think we need to keep in mind that first party titles do not carry any platform all on their own. just because sony may not be dropping all kinds of sex on us next week and/or at TGS doesn't mean PS4/Vita won't be getting some good stuff from 3rd parties.
just look at how many indie games jumped over to PS4 so quickly. it's safe to say that from here on out a lot of major indie titles will be on PS4/xbone going forward if the platform holders make it easy enough for them. that coupled with the publishers saying that nextgen preorders are looking better than current gen, it's easy to see that we'll get the support we want/need.
either way, 3 hours is a long time, and if they demo the OS/Store etc. live then we still have 2 hours for them to go over PS3/Vita and then drop some PS4 bombs. even if small.

Talk to me, is there any chance they just say "tonight" and bomb shell everybody?
Zero percent.
mJust read the last 10 pages of this(50 post per page) that appeared whilst i was asleep.
A lot of people worried about games being released in 2014 and I don't think theres anything to worry about, I mean let's think about it a little bit:
Q1: Infamous - Confirmed, probably some smaller titles
Q2: TLoU PS4 Port - this can be ported to PS4 pretty easily and simply won't be announced yet, they have DLC to sell, Q2 is the perfect time to do this as it will still be fresh in the memory but will give the PS3 version enough time to sell.
Q4: Uncharted 4, c'mon we all know it, VGA announcement holiday 2014 release, it makes too much sense, that's just how Nathan Drake rolls.
Q3: The Order 1886 - Probably Q3 as the other launches above are pretty big titles.
What Sony have announced:
Sony have only announced games that come out on launch day and the order (remember Infamous was originally set for launch. they are only looking a few months ahead.
So when will we see TLoU PS4? After the DLC is out, I would guess in the same VGA presentation as uncharted 4.
This give us a huge title every quarter and there is still so much we don't know about, I'm expecting gamescom to add additional titles to these that will be big titles but not the quaterly megahits, with perhaps one exception, i think we'll be told about a large Q2 release because TLoU port is not a mega hit per se as it's a port.
Gamescom prediction:
1 title for PS3
1 title for PSV
OS
Gaikai/tentatic TV talk
2 titles announced for PS4 (housemarque style titles)
Release date
Release countries
Q2 big title for PS4
This still leaves plenty of titles for TGS and TLoU + UC4 for VGA's. and even E3 14.
EDIT: I'm not an insider but alot of this stuff seems pretty obvious from what we know.
I have received a tip that the ps4 is just a ps3 with a sticker on top of the 3.

Its 1 -1:30 hours bro
The coverage is 3 hours but will include other things besides the actual conference
But in terms of everything you want to see... they better show that stuff. It's time to really lay out what the PS4 "experience" is going to be about. I hate to use marketing/buzzwords like that... but seriously, I want to know what using the system is going to be like. Neither MS or Sony has shown that yet.

We had at least that PS4 OS/UI trailer and the faked Xbone UI at its reveal, but I also hope for hands-on reports of the near-final UIs and features. It would also be nice to get a definitive list of features that will be available at launch and to see their maturity. The Wii U has shown that what you get at launch can be in an awful state of development.

This is how I think of indies now, too. It's not just two guys in a basement anymore - at least not exclusively. It's a team of people who might have worked at major studios but are branching out. They have talent and experience and now can execute on outside-the-box ideas. I'm hoping for a return of the mid tier games like in the late 90s or early 2000s.I also feel outside of Sony's PR spiel, that it truly could be a rejuvenation or 'renaissance' of the mid tier game.
Mid tier existed more in the PS2 era, because a cheap 3D game could still be a safe investment for an independent developer (not garage indie, but Registered Office indie, if such a distinction exists). 2 or 3 mil was much easier to to get funding for - especially in the financial climate the PS2 was borne by.
No doubt with self publishing, flexible pricing, digital distribution and the expectation of a DD product, the infrastructure is all there for us to see a renaissance. Expectation of a DD game thanks to Steam is not AAA standard, and allows games to be completed with PS2 sized budgets - because the implementation and creation of AAA assets is where costs start to rocket. Add in the fact there's self publishing and flexible pricing to fall in line with the Steam model - and no pesky publishers and physical distribtion to worry about.
I am really really excited about this generation.
I'm not sure they'd want to Sega Saturn the PS4 to death.Talk to me, is there any chance they just say "tonight" and bomb shell everybody?
More wrong than right in this thread.
Just talked with my local GameStop clerk, he told me I could get an additional 10% on trades if I'm a power rewards member. Also the Last Guardian is cancelled.
