Sony's Gamescom Media Briefing On "Release Plans for PlayStation 4"

If famousmortimer is right, Sony should reconsider its plans. Maybe they'll sell every single unit until march but what about those people which are going to buy One because it seems to have more games at the moment ? Most of gamers don't even know which studios work on which platform, all they need to know is that Uncharted 4 is coming to chose PS4 even if One will have its Halo

I don't think the group of people you are talking about are a particularly big group of people. I think most people who buy launch units are going to end up with both consoles eventually. If the ps4 is sold out they are going to buy a xbox anyway. Knowing that uncharted is coming isn't going to do much.

But keep in mind that Sony has this stuff in its pocket. If the narrative out of gamescom is ps4 has no gamezz they can easily hold an event in early fall and bust out with the 2014 lineup. I think the point is they are in the driver's seat and don't need to release that info now but will have it for when it is needed.

Or I could be wrong. Let's not forget that Verendus has contradicted what i said and I consider him a more connected source than I am.

Other than forza and Killzone the launch games are going to get absolutely buried by cod/bf4/madden/fifa/nba2k/ac4/watchdogs/etc.

Forza will sell well because it always does. Killzone will sell well because it's likely to be one of the prettiest games of the launch. The rest of the exclusives will be irrelevant.

Titanfall will be huge for ms next year. Infamous will be big (but not huge) for the ps4. And from there the console exclusive wars will begin. But this fall... it's going to be dominated by the games that dominate every fall.

Must be about payment

Yes. My dutch is poor, but it says something about depositing an initial payment before that date to be sure to still have a PS4 guaranteed on launch day.

Since most of games these days are on multiple plateforms, I believe gamers need many exclusives to buy a second console but I'm probably wrong

You know, I've seen fans of the Xbox One claim that the Xbox One is where all of the games are and where they are going to be all generation.

I think this is a matter of Microsoft showing their hand early. (And they definitely had to).
I think a lot of people believe that the Xbone has the upper hand in games.
But Gamescom may show this to not really be true at all.

It also does not help that Sony supported the PS3 so late into the generation with AAA games such GOW:A, TLoU, GT6, and Beyond:Two Souls.
Imagine if all of those games were set for a 2014 release. That would be insane.

There is no technically hardware reason the PS4 couldn't do this.

I doubt they would rely on Skype, seeing as how they are owned by Microsoft. Perhaps they could use their own chat again, but with better functionality. I cannot wait to see what they make out of these PS+ subscriptions.

Haha, did you goto my post and paraphrase it?

Whoever said that must have been sleeping for the past 4 years. And forgot about the original Xbox where the entire console was killed off early. Assuming MS will all of a sudden support a console with tons of unique exclusives for the entire length of the generation is going out on a limb to say the least.

They announced a bunch of games at E3 because they had to. The 360 had a great first few years too. Talk to me 3 years from now and we'll see what's going on then.

And even that's hopeful thinking IMO. As far as I remember, both last entries to those two franchises have sold less than their previous games. It's a very good thing they're now released at launch as the launch hype might serve as much needed shot in the arm for both series.

As a consumer I am very happy Sony always provide excellent support even when they are launching the next-generation PlayStation console, why should I wish they started screwing existing customers when the new console is approaching launch?

Verendus must be right. This is Sony. They announce everything early, even stuff they that will never see the light of day. If it is coming they will talk about it. No holding back.

I doubt they would rely on Skype, seeing as how they are owned by Microsoft. Perhaps they could use their own chat again, but with better functionality. I cannot wait to see what they make out of these PS+ subscriptions.

But, Skype is already on the PS Vita. And it's in Skype's best interest to be on the PS4 instead of letting a competitor like "Google Hangouts" take that marketshare on the PS4. If Sony tires to use their own generic video chat app again on the PS4, it's just gonna get overlooked & Ignored. The general mainstream audience won't care. They have to use Skype or Goolge hangouts, to match the hype that Skype will get on Xbox1.

Well it sells OK, but F4 didn't place too high in the NPDs on it's release month and by all accounts Forza Horizon did really poorly.

Indeed. It's no GT, I think that's why MS have put it front and centre as a launch title. Sony seem to be doing the same for Killzone for the same reason.

Looking at the way Sony seems to be announcing games now they might have changed their thinking as zomg pointed out earlier. The best recent example of that is Sony's biggest game for this year and probably the second biggest exclusive PS3 game got announced this year and will be released during holiday 2013.

which is something that even my neighbors one legged dog could have predicted.

Well Famousmortimer says hes heard a lot of announcements got moved to later dates while Verendus says he was told to prepare to be impressed.

So yea who knows what'll happen, that makes it a lot more fun IMO :p

.

This holiday lineup is enough reason for Sony to pull back on some of their exclusives. This holiday GTA,COD,BF,AC and so on are going to cannibalize each other no need for Sony to send some of their games out to die.

Launch with 2-4 second tier 1st party exclusive, and leave the rest for 2014 when all the hula settles and people are looking past the COD,GTA and so forth.

Skype is on Vita, but it isn't integrated with the OS like it will be on the Xbox One. I don't expect it to be on the PS4, either. Sony would have announced it by now.

Which is why I've speculated "Google Hangouts" would be on the PS4. With the amount of times Sony has previously teamed up with Google (even if they were failed attempts) I wouldn't be surprised to see "Google Hangouts" integrated into the PS4. Forgodssake, Sony is a Co-Developer & Co-Manufacturer of "Google TV".

SEVERAL SSD PROGRAMMERS has been quite chummy with the blog posters on OS over the last couple of years...

THEY HAVE IN THE PAST FEW MONTHS DROPPED HINTS OF MLB 14 THE SHOW PS4

the show is hardly ever featured at E3, Gamescon, or TGS... sony tends to let the team work and reveal on their own similar to how PD does with it's GT games. I expect a new cover contest and official reveal during World Series (early oct), new feature reveal on PSBLOG, OS, ESPN in Mid Nov, and first hands on to a few sites in Early DEC and full hands on and feature reveal (ps4 vs ps3) during CES 14 in Jan folowing it usuall first week of March 14 release

That would be huge. Has Sony announced their streaming partner yet? Twitch/Ustream? Because they just could end up having a deal with Google and use Youtube/Hangouts.

From my Understanding Forza only sells well because it gets bundled and the last Killzone game did pretty bad so who knows about that one.

It's three exclusives versus four. I'm not seeing this "much better lineup" personally. It really comes down to personal tastes more than anything.

Far as I can see, it's pretty clear that both MS and Sony made conscious decisions to avoid putting too much up at the launch window that's going to be cannibalized by BF4, CoD, AC4, and W_D anyway.

I agree and would add that most posters are canceling out multiplats on both platforms as equal. There is a good chance the best console versus of these cross-gen games will be on PS4. Perhaps not a huge difference, but who cares about such things? The hardcore. And they're the ones buying at launch.

Best multiplats, $100 cheaper, and (reportedly) smoother hardware production means Sony is in the driver's seat this holiday. They're afforded the luxury of being able to more finely time announcements. Meanwhile, MS needs all the help they can get to turn the negative narrative around.

I was a teeny bit disappointed that Sony didn't have HDMi passthrough, given they've played around with google TV

Realistically, most expected the release window to be sometime between October and November. The fact that the former is being touted more heavily is pointless - it could be released on the last week of October, or last day, for all we know.

I would like to know the launch date, not launch month

Honestly, as uber excited as I am to get my hands on that biblical beast of a console known as the PS4.....I would kind of prefer a November release. Reason one, that's when all the AAA titles are released, and Reason two...that would be a more idea time for me to pay off my pre ordered PS4, controller, camera, and 5 games.

how many first launch titles do you think sony are holding back that are going to be must haves??? Pretty sure you would of seen them already being 2 months from launch....I think we wont see (be playing) a majority of these games until 12 to 18 months from now going off sonys past track record.

There is enough 3rd party stuff to keep many people going for ages. ...some people only buy cod or bf once a year

with all due respect to MLB, I am sure it's a fine game, but outside of the USA. Where maybe 500k care about that game, no one else gives a rats ass. And Gamescom (Europe) is not the place to announce it.

EDIT:I know it's not the place, but new SSM job posting sounds the same as when they were hiring for GOWA

Design any element in game including:

puzzles
navigation/platforming challenges
building 3D environments
modeling and texturing
designing and implementing fun/challenging AI layouts
scripting entities
placing rough cameras, including animated and entity-triggered cameras
sound implementation
level warping and gameflow
cinematic placement and triggering

Another GOW? UGHHHHHHHHHH

which was my point to begin with

several pages back someone mentioned sony not saying anything about the show and i offered an explination why

it's still very much a launch window game and could be a deciding factor to some people on the fence between x1 and ps4 seeing as how the 2k series is all but dead

I'm ready.

Mark Purrney?

We need another insider to come out with information that can clear the contradiction in reports from famousmortimer and Verendus that is going on in this thread.

No, most games are launch titles. Like Battlefield 4 launches October 29, but if PS4 is released on October 25 - that will be the launch date for BF4 on PS4. If PS4 is released on November 17, that will be the launchdate for BF4 on PS4.

If the PS4 launches before a big game, such as Watch Dogs, the release of Watch Dogs PS4 will be moved forward (because, as said multiple times, it is a LAUNCH TITLE (not launch window)). If the PS4 launches after a big game, such as Watch Dogs, the PS4 version of Watch Dogs is pushed back until that date.
