South of Midnight is one of the weakest Game Pass release on Steam ever with only 1500 players

I don't think they'll do that either. But if there's a time for a big change like that to be done, a new generation is the best one.

I liken it to Sony starting charging for online with PS4, they made a clear service distinction with a generational divide.

I think the same thing. Bring in the new future with whatever their new console is going to be and then announce the changes to GP. With that said they've been making some wild moves very quickly so I could also see them doing it before that simply because of the pressure from above. Honestly think a price increase would be more likely though.

I think if Microsoft was backing away from Game Pass then they would have started with Call of Duty.
It is more nuanced than that if you think about it. They can't not put their games day one on Game Pass because they have already publicly committed to it. They'd get a lot of backlash if they suddenly stopped doing it.

So, what do they do instead?

They make it difficult to get new games on GP day one. They do that by:
  • Increasing GP price
  • Releasing games earlier via "early access" that GP users can't access without paying extra money.
  • Removing day one games from the Standard tier
If they still believed in the idea of engagement and player count and players playing their games on Game Pass day one, they'd have encouraged it even more. But they're doing the opposite, which means they are slowly moving away from this ideas as much as possible without drawing too much negative PR and backlash.

It's been ~18 months or so (?) and they haven't even released the full ABK backlog to Game Pass yet.

Edit: Kacho Kacho echoed my thoughts well. What I meant to say is that things have been changing for GP and Xbox due to financial pressure, and none of those changes (listed above) increase the number of players playing GP games on day one.

There is thinking and there is overthinking. I don't feel like doing either right now so I'll just say....

This thread has more engagement than the game itself. People say GAF hates Xbox, but in reality, it's the place that cares most about Xbox's well-being

wait...why NSFW?

Just like "Xbox going third-party was a dream" according to you just a little while ago.

The talk here was Xbox was dropping hardware and going the Sega route. That dream was dead then and still hasn't happened. I was right.

Meanwhile you and others have been predicting the end of GamePass for years and years. It's ok, one day you'll eventually be right.

I think day one games will be deprioritized in the near future because Xbox is under serious pressure from Amy Hood to start making money. They will eventually need to pivot back to selling software in addition to selling services. Game Pass will continue to exist but it will evolve into something slightly different. What that ends up being is anyone's guess. Just my opinion of course.

Like PS+ in my opinion. It's the happy medium between what GamePass is and Nintendo's Online service.

No. The conversation was about Xbox going third-party, as you also literally mentioned in your comment.

Here's another of your post that's literally only talking about Xbox games on other platforms; no conversation about "hardware."

You're too busy console warring to understand there is no grief. But it's ok, I want you guys to still dream. You'll get those Xbox games day one one day I swear.

No need to lie and spin it. We can all read your previous comments.

Yes, going third party and dropping Xbox. That's what GAF believed would happen. The dream is dead. Let me know where you are confused.

Here, friend, since you like digging up old posts to try (and fail) to do some lame gotcha on someone, here's another post of mine from that same thread. A post you skipped over for some reason, I guess because it doesn't fit the narrative you're trying to paint here.

Wait, we're now pretending that the last two weeks of constant shit posting and trolling Xbox and claiming that Xbox was abandoning hardware, porting everything to PlayStation, and killing off GamePass, didn't happen?

Xbox is abandoning hardware!! - they actually aren't

They're porting everything to PlayStation!! - it's four games to start (and before anyone chimes in about frogs, yes we all know more games will come) and those four games are nothing close to the ones GAF was predicting

GamePass as we know it is dead and gone!! We all told you GamePass wasn't sustainable!!! - GamePass actually remains the best deal in gaming, MS reaffirms their commitment to day one

And now all the posters who were claiming yesterday would be the death of Xbox are trying to somehow twist it into I told you so 😆😆🤡😆

The only person spinning here, is you. I'm not sure why though, I already said eventually you'll be right. No service lasts forever. GamePass has simply lasted years longer than you thought it would.

Microsoft should shut down that Studio as well as Ninja Theory. Waste of resources.
Who cares if it's a waste of resources. It's not my money. I'd rather they keep releasing games. Even when they are not games I like or want to play. I feel like that was part of OG PS and PS2's strength. The variety of games.

And what's wrong with catering to smaller groups too? I don't see anybody being abandoned just because this game released. The game isn't that great and it performed poorly but I don't understand some people's logic with hating its existence.
Most of all I wonder how they spent the past seven years. It feels like a crazy long time for a game like this. Maybe they went all in on getting the southern vibe right and simply forgot about the gameplay until the last year or so.

After Contrast and We Happy Few I thought Compulsion had potential for something big. That they with Microsoft's financial backing could so something great. South of Midnight was not it. I still like the game for what it is, though. I just wish it was so much more.
