South Park: The Stick of Truth |OT| Bigger, Longer, and Uncut (In select regions)

Ubisoft probably don't even know the German law. Why should there be a problem with the abortions? Isn't this kinda stuff already in the series?
Also how about letting the USK rate the game before you cut it?

For the same reason they have to put zombies in games where you kill people most likely. The German government thinks games are more dangerous than movies, therefore the USK, who were likely already consulted, are a lot stricter about content.

Nintendo had the problem where their European HQ was situated in Germany, and the eShop had to adhere to Germany's silly laws of only allowing 18+ content to be sold between 11pm and 4am or something. Of course that told us more about Nintendo's immaturity than anything else, but still.

That really was Nintendos incompetence when it comes to everything more than anything else and it's no longer a thing.

A publisher could determine that it's too much of a hassle to distribute multiple versions around the continent and blanket censor everyone.

Yes, that's true. But so far it never happened, but in this case the blame would be 100% on the publisher IMO.

That's not how it works. The laws are pretty strict about realistic violence against humans and the likes, but that's completely different from an abortion in an unrealistic scenario such as South Park. The TV series is uncut and rated FSK 16 in Germany.

Happened lots of times, SCEE was already mentioned previously with four of their games, No More Heroes, Ninja Gaiden etc. were also all censored for the PAL region specifically because of the USK.

Edit: I forgot the most important thing. Even if they did cut it because they wanted to secure a better USK rating. Why would they cut all EMEA versions and not just the German version?

Hard to imagine the ME and Africa being more liberal than even Germany.

Man, 70 years on and swastikas are still censored in Germany? I'd wager there are more neo-nazis in America than Germany right now, but I don't actually know what I'm talking about so I'll stop derailing now.

Games are judged by different metrics. Heck we're talking about an organisation that put an old Atari sidescrolling shooter on the index for "providing children with a paramilitaristic education". Team Fortress 2 is pretty cartoony too, and censored.

Most recent examples that come to mind: Gore in the online mode of The Last of Us was toned down in the European version. Beyond: Two Souls had some violence removed.

Okay, but what makes you believe that had anything to do with the USK? Makes no sense. They have to make a different version anyway IF the game doesn't get an USK 18 rating (like it is happening for years). Why do it in advance for all of Europe? "Strange marketing decision no one gets" is the best I can do.

Who says they're doing it in advance? Most likely the first reviews from the rating boards have already happened quite some time ago. Publishers are then allowed to edit the content in order to get a certain rating.

Apparently the PC version isn't being censored, so Steam should be fine.

I'd be wary of taking the review info sheet at its word: some of the patch notes are PS3-specific and so it could very well be a PS3 variant of the document; ergo, the censorship warning at the bottom, while specific, could be contextual (i.e. it only mentions the console versions because the info sheet is for a console version).

Well for Beyond it was definitely not the USK. It was PEGI.

I actually canceled my Beyond Two Souls preorder because of this and decided not to buy Last of Us.
That's sad to hear. The changes in TLoU are MP only and the ones in Beyond happen in two optional encounters and are nothing of note. The scenes even have the same length.

I wasn't even going to get this game, then something told me to go ahead and preorder the wizards edition. LOLOL. I preordered the PS3 version, hopefully it runs as well as the 360 one.

Can't wait for the drama when the media learns about the Muhammad boss fight

I just invented that

If I order the game from amazon.com and use the steam key on my UK account will it be uncensored?

My understanding is no. The censorship is only affecting the console releases. If you buy on PC, you should be fine.

Someone can correct me if this is wrong though.

We have no confirmation, only strong hints the PC version won't be censored (apart from the German/Austrian version with the swastikas). We do know that the UK PC version will be identical to the US PC version as they share the same steamDB entry.

There is confirmation in the other thread...

Alright, the gifs in this thread finally pushed me over the edge. Just pre ordered the grand wizard version from Amazon. I really enjoy the south park series, and everything I've read about this game suggests if you enjoy the show, you'll enjoy this game. It helps I enjoy rpgs as well.

The censorship will still result in something fun and ridiculous from Matt and Trey. Honestly, I'm more interested in seeing what they put in place of the cut content. Have we already forgotten about Bigger, Longer, Un-Cut?

Ew @ that title. I never understood the infatuation some had for such a terrible poster.

Anyways, I'm pretty excited to play this. I'm not a huge South Park fan, but I'll buy pretty much anything Obsidian puts out and the racy humor is a plus. The only downside is that I'll have to dust off my old ass PS3 to play it.

You know, this broad censoring because of Germany reminds me of Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, where House of the Dead was changed to Curien Mansion, even in the US, because HotD was banned in Germany.

A pseudo-elite poster who was overshadowed by his reputation to the point it got him banned (more than a few times), but also now a special spot on a OT subtitle.

To me, he is an example of a forum phenomenon where if one sticks to a position (primarily a negative one, since there is a bias towards negativity) long enough, people will shift the overall environment so as to make that person a pillar of the discussion, i.e., elevating their reputation and input without requiring them to also provide some construction to go along with their destruction. I mean to say, someone can repeat "this is bad, I don't like it", dressed up with some bandwagon-ish terms, over and over again, and it will eventually be legitimized as the yang to the fans' ying. For example, if you were reading Metal Gear Rising (or Yakuza, etc.) threads you may remember one certain poster who constantly crapped on the game, thread after thread, with mostly superficial or poorly supported thoughts; despite never saying anything of substance (or to be more generous, anything anyone responded positively to or was challenged by), that poster was naturally name dropped constantly.

For Derrick this happened to such a degree where his mere presence would derail threads of multiple topics.
I don't really think its fair to compare derrick that type of poster. Most of the time, Derrick spoke the truth and went against popular opinion. For example, people claiming that Skyrim is the greatest rpg of all time and that Fallout 3 is a deeper more richer rpg than New Vegas. I just think that people didn't like hearing that those games they cherish are to him considered "Baby's First Rpg"

The game will feature turn-based combat similar to the kind seen in the Paper Mario and Final Fantasy games. However, fighting also has a timing component to it, with well-timed successive inputs resulting in larger combos or more successful defending. There will also be a summoning system, allowing the player to summon other characters to help in battle. Most battles will involve the player and his party against a group of enemies. Players will also control all members of their party so that they can remain in control throughout combat.

Didn't know about this! Makes me even more excited as I love Paper Mario.

Won't be able to get this at launch even if I wanted to, not near my PS3 or desktop for a few more weeks. Very tempted to buy it as soon as I get home though.

There are better ways to express opinions than he used. Even this thread is getting derailed.

I wasn't originally going to pick this up at launch, but the gameplay video sold me. Hopefully Gamefly will send me the code early enough that I don't have to download the entire thing on Tuesday.

Lifting a review embargo on the day of release is super-shit.

Has anyone dropped a hint about the final game? I doubt that this will be a disaster on par with X: Rebirth but I'd rather not get burned again.

I'm stupid so explain me this.

Some news reported that UK and EU will get the censored version. Ok.

BUT.

Why if I go on Uplay store there's a banner reporting that the Uplay version is uncensored (italian store)?

Isn't the Steam version the same one of Uplay? So even the Steam version is uncensored?

Could an uncensored version be "exclusive" for one store?
It's only the console versions that are censored. PC version is still good to go.

It was ceaseless threadshitting.

Really looking forward to this game.

Lol at the title. Derrick was one of my favorite posters. It had to be done though, he became too renowned to even post without derailing everything, even in death he's still doing it.

This game, I'm more excited about than any non-Nintendo game on the horizon, it looks even better to me than Bravely Default, which I'm holding off on buying till after I beat this.
