8.5 Presentation
Great cutscenes, good story, impressive visuals and a slick interface.
8.0 Graphics
Awesome game engine allows for eye-popping combat scenes, nice enviornments and smooth character animation.
8.5 Sound
Cool rock tunes and ambient tracks, plus you get Ares as your own personal cheerleader.
7.5 Gameplay
Terrific action and weapon system marred by a wonky camera, cheap bosses and poor design decisions.
8.0 Lasting Appeal
Lots of unlockable content such as artwork and a full-fledged arena mode.
7.9 OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)
Spartan: Total Warrior does so many things right that it genuinely pains us to see the experience get bogged down by a handful of major annoyances. Creative Assembly crafted a marvelous game engine, too, one that affords spectacular encounters filled with more action, blood and Holy crap did you see that!? moments than wed care to mention. Its therefore unfortunate that the unrefined targeting system, cheap boss battles and generally unhelpful friendly AI make the experience a mixed bag of exhilarating and exasperating moments. Still, Total Warrior is a good (almost great) action game that fans of the genre should definitely considering purchasing.
