Speculation About Nintendo's E3 Conference

Gahiggidy

My aunt & uncle run a Mom & Pop store, "The Gamecube Hut", and sold 80k WiiU within minutes of opening.
People are worried Nintendo isn't gonna show off the Revolution next week. Anxiety is building.

Normally, I'd support a descision to hold off on showing your cards untill at least you are within a year of actually launching the product. Why "sell the sizzle" when you aren't ready to serve up the steak for another 16-18 months? Did Microsoft give details about thier next console at E304? No, they just focused all attention on that halo game. Remember, that people knew alot less about GameCube than Xbox going into E3-01, and the result was that despite Microsoft's poor software showing, thier hardware still had more hype and interest than the GameCube. That strategy may work with traditional consoles, that promise advaced technology and prettier games. But, if we are to believe that Revolution is no ordinary console, then Nintendo will have no choice but to go now... or have the "leakers" ruin any chance of surprise.

Once E3 is done, Nintendo's gonna have to start allowing more than a few, trusted, developers have a go at making games for this thing. They're lucky they got his far with the secret! When the unwashed masses of developers get thier RDK's, there no hope at all for keeping things under wraps. So, they might as well put together the best possible presentation of Revolution at this stage in its development. Announcing specs, hardware partners, and promised features isn't going to do it. No, what they need is an example. To show one game, a Nintendo game, that makes use of this new technology in ways that prove its worthiness. A new game that will lay bare to world the wonder of Nintendo's creation.

This is what I hope to witness in L.A.

And if they don't have software ready to show off, with just over a year left to launch, then they are in bigger trouble than some would fear... or hope.

At the very least Nintendo needs to show the system and at least footage of a couple games. I really cant imagine Revolution being shown any more than this. I hope Im wrong, but I doubt it.

Not to derail, but I'm pumped to see what Apple has to bring at their booth this year. They weren't there last year, so I never got to see them. I hope some devs are around that work on the core OpenGL technologies and it's not something just like that "Games for Windows" booth.

With Revolution specs, some games for it in video form (New Mario, Wave Race, a new game, and Retro FPS) Mario 128 and Zelda i will be happy.

Though I'm dying of curiosity as to what the Revolution is, I think that if Nintendo plans to release the Revolution Q42006, then they should barely focus on it this E3. I believe that next E3 they should do something similar to the DS unveiling; reveal the system, a bunch of great games nobody expected, a nearby release date, and have it playable on the show floor. Dev kits should be sent out ASAP.

If however Nintendo plans to launch it either late this year or early next year (Q2) then they should reveal just enough in a couple of weeks to begin to generate hype, but not everything. Development kits should be sent out, and they should hold another event, maybe a Spaceworld, to fully unveil the system later this year.

Keep in mind, that it was last year's E3 that Iwata promised a "gaming revolution". To follow up the next E3 without showing us what the heck he was talknig about... is just lame.

No, thy've gotta give a demonstration. Its not like Sony won't be able to glean the secret it from third parties.

It's going to be all about the DS, the new Zelda, and a little bit of Revolution info (but no hardware shown and nothing concrete).

The real focus will be to downplay the Xbox 360 and PS3 as "nothing new" and emphasis on how Nintendo will be different without any real specifics on exactly what difference Nintendo will bring to the table.

There won't be much else shown. Third party stuff for the Gamecube will be just about what's already known to be in the pipeline and not much else. DS will have some new and interesting stuff I suppose, and GBA will stay the course of a successful machine riding out it's last year with some solid but not really shocking software.

Nintendo will very likely be lost in the media blitzes that will be the MS and Sony announcements.

I couldn't agree more sir!

I think specs and talking about it is nice, but if Nintendo shows off a Mario or another franchise (even a new IP) using this new revolutionary way of playing games, the hype around the game could be huge. Really, this is sort like a presidential race, and right now, the candidates are fighting for momentum. When the "Dolphin" was announced, there was tons of hype, but it wasn't followed with anything. Now, there is a decent amount of hype, and hopefully Nintendo can take this hype into momentum after a strong showing. This can make or break the Revolution, especially for developers deciding whether or not to develop for the system.

Yeah, the point is that the longer they wait... the greater chance that the big surprise will be spoiled by events outside of Nintendo's control. Next week is thier one chance to make a big impression.

Sony and Microsoft will find out their secrets regardless. I think it is far too late, esspecially for Microsoft, to do anything to incorporate it anyway. Not to mention I doubt they wll want to, they arent exactly trying to do anything radically new this generation. They'll just wait and see how it turns out for Nintendo to integrate it.

They just need to show it. Get it out there, generate hype, make devs want it somehow. Anything to improve what their previous efforts have brought them.

Anyway I would expect some demo reels as far as the Revolution, nothing much else. I pray I'm wrong, but I don't want my hopes up. Bunch of DS support I would suspect, then lots of Zelda.

That's exactly what I think, based on what I have (or rather, haven't) heard about Nintendo's showing. Maybe if I had AMAZING SEKRIT INSIDER INFO, I would think otherwise.

yup, you're no NightTrain........only this kind of train brings the fresh Nintendo news and the true ones....

The Nintendo Conference will start out with Iwata showing some new DS features that include simple office style features, wireless internet communications, and finally some online games including Animal Crossing and Mario Kart. Next will be a video showcasing upcoming Nintendo DS games. Next, Reggie will come out to showcase Zelda on the Gamecube and talk about business information and sales talk. Reggie will then mention the Revolution being something "different" from the rest of the next-gen consoles. Miyamoto will then rush out and cut off Reggie's head with a sword, laughing "AHAHAHAHAH I KILL YOU". He will then reveal that in fact, Reggie was a hologram and that the entire conference was a hologram (including himself) being broadcasted from the Revolution. The real Miyamoto will jump out with a spandex suit on and wires surrounding his body. All his movements are reflected by the hologram-miyamoto. Miyamoto will dance a jig then walk off stage. The audience? stunned.

Don't forget the bit where olimario asks a question of his beloved "Miyamoto-sama" in broken Japanese while wearing a heaband emblazoned with a rising sun.

:lol :lol :lol @ Reggie is a hologram!!!!

I think the DS is gonna be Nintendo's main focus at E3. And rightfully so I might add. I think this E3 Nintendo is gonna reveal the "killer app" that everyone is waiting for. Nintendo is facing some good competetion from PSP so I think its better for Nintendo to focus its efforts toward defeating the PSP.

I expect that there will be a whole lot more shown at the show than people think. The Nintendo DS online network should be a pretty substantial showcase when games like Animal Crossing and Mario Kart are shown off.

If Retro IS working on a FPS for the Revolution, I have no doubt that it would be amazing.

Who did that last year?

Wait, was that actually Olimario? I heard it was some guy from Nintendojo.com?

The fact that the one responcible for that posts here regularly makes me sad. I can only hope if hes there this year he asks Miyamoto about where all the cuttable grass is.

Uh.

At E3 Nintendo are just going to have a corral of puppies. They'll give the atendees giant stylus' so people can stand around the edge of the corral and poke and rub the puppies. Every half hour Reggie will clear away the dead puppies and drop a new lot in. It's going to be awesome.
