Spider-Man 3 is better than Spider-Man 2 - Double Toasted Highlight

I didn't like Spider-Man 2 much at all but it's still leagues ahead of SM3. All SM3 had was Sandman's casting and shirt. Everything else was awful.

Korey right now (just replace Danielle with Martin)

When I rewatched them all a few years ago my takeaways were:
Spider-Man 1 was not nearly as good as I had remembered it.
Spider-Man 2 remains a top-tier comic book movie.
Spider-Man 3, while highly flawed, was not as bad as I had remembered and is on par with 1 IMO.

Martin is wrong, but I love that guy too much to disagree with him so I guess this is canon now.

I enjoyed all of the Sam Raimi Spiderman films. Don't really get the hate for 3. Tobey Maguire is still firmly cemented in my mind as Spiderman, so maybe I'm biased.

Andrew Garfield also made a pretty decent job of it, but that second film... oh boy. Not his fault, but that script was a shocker.

I always heard them talk about Martin's Spiderman 3 love, but to hear him articulate it...that's cool. But to bring Spiderman 2 down below it? I can't sit there with you Martin.

After watching the video, I don't agree but I can follow his reasoning. He isn't trying to say that Spider-Man 3 is some masterpiece, just that he had an easier time buying into it compared to Spider-Man 2.

Only halfway through the video, but all of Martin's criticisms are super nitpicky. He's entertaining enough that it's still good though.

Eh, I see his points, but most of that was just common jank that was almost inherent to all superhero movies at the time. The Raimi movies just had great action, drama, and friend/enemy chemistry to back it up and stand out. That said, I totally get why it's a bit weird that many complaints you'd see from SM3 can also be found in the previous movies, yet no one dares to point that out.

GAF hating Spidey 2? Do we hate TDK yet or is that coming with its anniversary next year?
Already happened during the whole BvS/Suicide Squad debacle.

Just seeing glimpses of the Raimi movies (even the shitty SM3) makes you appreciate them so much in contrast to modern superhero movies. They had so much more charm and character.

Yeah. It's half "this isn't the mental image I have of Spider-Man characters" and half nitpicking. Like, Spidey should've sneaked into MJ's play from the skylight? Huh

And with Spider-Man 3, can be summed up as "it's not that bad."

Spiderman 1 & 2 are not only the best Spiderman movies ever made, but the best live-action superhero movies ever made.

I'll take them over all the DCU and current MCU movies, including the Avengers group and the X-men groups.

-although, Logan and Deadpool are right up there.

Basically just click bait content.

I always felt like that "Spiderman 1 & 2 aren't good either" is kinda like the "Sonic/Crash was NEVER good!" statement of movies.

Can't say I disagree too hard with what Martin said about SM2. He brought up some points I haven't even considered in my endless praise of the film.

Gotta agree with Doc Ock being bad but Sandman and Venom were far worse.

I haven't had a chance to watch the vid yet, but does he address the butler? Because that guy is one of the worst McGuffins in cinematic history. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V18RlvS0kRQ#t=2m50s

Yea they bring it up as a terrible moment in the movie. But man, even ignoring what the butler is saying, did they run out of time there that line reading was awful.

Yeah, Goodwin brings up the butler and Martin admits it's an awful scene. His Spider-Man 2 complaints come off a little nitpicky, and I'm sure 3 has the same issues. But what I took away is that the things he liked in 2 were more plentiful in 3.

Edit: Jesus H Christ the exposition dumps in that video are insane.

I think we can all agree that Spider Man 2 is the best of that Spider Man trilogy, just as long we can all acknowledge that Spider Man 2 is basically a Superman 2 remake.

On the eve of MCU's new Spider-Man movie, not only should it be successful, but Maguire-Man must fail too.

In spite of everything he's done for us, you will hate him.

Can't agree with him on that.

But what he said about the "emo" scene in SM3 is very true. People completely misinterpreted that scene when it was supposed to be very tongue in cheek. It's intentionally cheesy.

Spider-Man 2 is the most overrated superhero movie, if GAF is an accurate measure. It's decent at best, but people on here consistently rank it #1.
