Spider-Man: Miles Morales is NOT an expansion to a PS5 remaster or a sequel; it's a standalone game like Uncharted: Lost Legacy

I'm surprised it's coming out this year, but Insomniac is known for being quite efficient at making their games.

It makes sense if it is the equivalent of what Lost Legacy was to UC4. Stand-alone game, kind of a glorified add-on/spin-off.

I'm all for it. Even if it is just more Spider-Man PS4 with a little facelift

My only issue is that I like the Into the Spider-Verse Miles more than the PS4 Miles. Just being nit-picky tho

So Miles Morales story in the Spiderman map. I can get behind that if priced appropriately.

But seriously, this isn't hard to communicate.

Makes sense.
I'm expecting a similar or identical map to the first game (but set in Winter so that it looks a bit different) with new missions (hopefully with a bit more variety to the side missions), slight gameplay improvements (Miles has aome slightly different powers to Peter) and some next gen improvements such as better animations when webslinging and faster loading.

Basically a game very much built on the foundations of the first with some minor tweaks and improvements and gorgeous next gen graphics.

As someone that loved the first game, that's enough for me. If this game launches with the console it'll likely be the best game that we've had from Sony at the launch of a new PlayStation.

It is totally an expansion that they are making us buy separately from the main title and probably for the main game price... using same city and everything as main game just with morales story.

Otherwise this would be "Spiderman 2" which we all know is still coming.

Uncharted Lost Legacy was a standalone game but did it reuse main game areas and just drop some different characters in it?

Doesn't seem the same to me at all.

Until we see the scope it's hard to say. They could expand on the city and add more underground areas.

Being set in a non fictional city I think you could argue it's harder to add more depth to the city the way you could with a fictional area.

There's no reason to think this will be $60 when Infamous First Light and Uncharted Lost Legacy were cheaper. Sony has been pretty good about not forcing everything to $60 with those smaller games, things like Dreams launching at $40, many of their VR games being cheaper etc. Nintendo, as much as I love them, is bad about charging $60 for everything be it a new AAA game or a Wii U remaster.

Spider-man sequels are going to largely have the same map as it's set in NYC. They can add other parts of the city not in the original map of course, but will eventually run out of places to run and most people would rather spend time swinging around Manhattan anyway. The point of sequels will be the new stories, new villains and bosses etc.

This is actually genius how they did this because it will prob fill in the gaps between 1 and 2 and this will be the game where Miles gets used to all his powers and training so we dont have to do that shit in 2. Then 2 will be a more balls to the wall experience with both players playable

As I said in the other thread I think making a spin-off entirely for him is a good idea. Otherwise his development would have to be placed in Spider-man 2 and you'll have people complaining why his character arc is taking up game time that can be dedicated to the plot threads that the first game set-up (symbiotes, Goblin). Since he's nowhere near as well-known as the original Spidey, they couldn't just jump into him being already a seasoned superhero like they did for Parker in the PS4 game. By the time the sequel rolls out, Miles is established and so playing as him will not just be like Peter on training wheels.

What kinda sucks is that it's looking like a PS5 exclusive when it seems to be using the same engine as the PS4 game. But eh, they got to sell the PS5 some way, I guess.

A Lost Legacy length spiderman game sounds excellent.

So keen to feel how the dualsense triggers will respond to the swinging.

It will be a standalone game, not a DLC download, it will be priced most likely as a standalone game.

They say it has substantial changes, improvements, etc. I'll most likely be getting this.

Sony purchased them and Spiderman sold a ton of copies. It's fair to think they may have increased their amount of workers. In addition to this, AAA games typically use a ton of outsourcing work, and Insomniac is known for releasing games very quick.

Wasn't insomniac dropping a game every year during the ps3 era?
Resistance 1 06
Ratchet future 07
Resistance 2 08
Ratchet crack 09
Resistance 3 10
Ratchet all 4 one 11

yea.... I'm not surprised lol

Hope it's a launch title can't wait :) holidays gonna be great. Wish Horizon 2 would also be launch title. Those two would be amazing!

So somewhere between Infamous First Light and Uncharted Lost Legacy? Cool. Now just give me the price.

Spiderman was one of their best selling games this gen and there is no Spiderman 2 on the horizon yet... Sony is greedy and unless this also comes to the PS4 version as DLC you can bet they are going to try and maximize price, especially if the overall launch titles are lacking.

They're going to be taking a hit on the hardware and need to make all the money on software that they can.

Has the idea of a "standalone expansion pack" lost all relevance in modern gaming culture? This was extremely common for a while...

Agree to disagree. I see absolutely no chance it will be more than $40, even if it isn't on PS4. Sony wants to win the console sales race in a dominant fashion again. They'll have exclusives, price things like this well, and take some losses early on to build a huge base quickly again like they did with PS4 and print money as their exclusives sell at huge attach rates again.

I also think they'll likely have Ratchet and Clank and GT7 (looks pretty polished, been a long time since GT6 and GT Sport hasn't gotten many updates lately) at launch, which is pretty damn strong in terms of selling systems. Though having Horizon 2 as well would be even better, but that seems very unlikely. Still a ton better than a crappy Killzone (SP anyway, I don't play MP) and fucking Knack for the PS4 launch.

$40 Spider-man spinoff after launch is just a little extra icing on the cake for the holiday season, and will be pretty ever green given how much the first game sold. Fans of it will buy it whenever they buy a PS5 (assuming it's not also on PS4).

I'll bet you $1 that it's a full price game.

It'll be interesting to see if it pops up on the PS4 as well if it uses the same engine. Hope so, I really liked the last one.

So we have a random 'source' vs a specific named Sony executive. Yeah, I will need more info.

and honestly, we are splitting hairs. Lost Legacy was itself an expansion originally that got turned into a standalone game. Yes this will be a standalone but so was Infamous Last light. And that was very short.

So we will see I guess. Either way it's not a full sequel but will be fun and I will pick it up at some point.

If they wanted to win this next console sales race in a dominant fashion they wouldn't have created the console they're about to put out.

They are the current market leader and let their arrogance get the best of them. That much is obvious.

The console is going to be expensive, the accessories are going to be expensive, and they are going to price gouge on software wherever they can at least out of the gate to try and make up what margin they have to eat on the over-engineered console.

In a perfect world they would have figured out a much better form factor for all the awesome tech being put into the PS5 and done so with better pricing in mind but at this point they think everyone is just going to gobble it up without question because it has a PS logo on the front.

If you go out and look at social media right now it really does seem like this has backfired on Sony. Lots of people even Sony die-hards are not happy.

In the long run they will be fine and most likely "win" next gen but i think they're going to have a much bigger battle on their hands this time than they were anticipating.
